Helloto everyone,

i have come across this site after spending along time delving into the black hole of the worldwide web.I qualified in UK as an adult nurse in sept 2012 and currently working on an acute medical ward specialising in neurology. i aim to get at least 1 years experience before emigrating to Oz and by the looks of it need to get started on applications etc.. but what do i do first. Money is tight so i need to pay in stages,

firstly which visa, i don't mind which sponsored or PR though prefer sound of PR though more expensive, and like idea of working where i want to.

2. if sponsored do i apply for job first they then sponsor my visa? if so where do i find these jobs.

3. when do you suggest i apply for APHRA

4. How you do skills assessment is this by APHRA, done before or after registration.

5. is the skills assessment and APHRA needed before visa application.

6. I am born in UK and educated here, confused....ielts or not im coming across conflicting info regarding this. My BSC degree is uk over 3 years 2 years prior to this was uk college for access course.. i am also 38 and done gcse over 20 years ago, have certificate ( a little scrap of paper i must say and old school only keeps records for 10 years so how do i prove i was at school here confused about this one :S.

i must say i rather have PR but if alot more expensive i will go the other route. Also i like to do process myself to save on money also though i know more stressful.

Apologies if my thread longwinded i just dont know where to start first and your site seems great for help and advice which is greatly appreciated.

P.S my partner is overseas national with permanent residency in UK but not british passport holder and no children coming. (only 1 at uni and wants to stay with dad and may come after). so he will come on back of me thankyou in advance and sorry again x

*** I'm applying for a PR visa so I only know the process on this and all my answers ar based on this. There is 2 types of PR visa, the 189 which is independent you must score 60points on skills select, if you are granted this visa you can live anywhere in oz, the other is the 190 where you get sponsership from a state, however some states have requirements as to how much experience you have in your career as to whether they give you sponsership. If you get a 190 visa you must stay in that state for 2 years.

2. if sponsored do i apply for job first they then sponsor my visa? if so where do i find these jobs. *** not sure as applying for PR visa.

3. when do you suggest i apply for APHRA *** you can do this at any stage, I've saw that it can take up to 10 months at times! So it really depends when you want to move after getting your visa. I'm not applying until after my visa is granted as we don't want o move until at least 8-12 months after getting our visa. Also once ou receive provisional registration with ahpra you must present in person to finalise everything within 12months so also bare that in mind.

4. How you do skills assessment is this by APHRA, done before or after registration. *** for a PR visa you must sit an ielts and then get your skills assessed by ANMC (Australian nursing and midwifery council) they need all you university documents, work history etc and assess if your skills meet those of Australian nurses, you must pass his assessment to apply for the visa.

5. is the skills assessment and APHRA needed before visa application. ** as above

**** for a PR visa you must sit an academic ielts for your skills assesment with ANMC it doesn't matter whether you are born British or not. You must score 7+ in each category or 8+ if you need extra points for your visa. I'm not sure if you need ielts if you ar not doing a PR visa as I'm sure ahpra just ask for proof that your education was taught in English again I'm not sure as I'm applying or PR

i must say i rather have PR but if alot more expensive i will go the other route. Also i like to do process myself to save on money also though i know more stressful.

Apologies if my thread longwinded i just dont know where to start first and your site seems great for help and advice which is greatly appreciated. *** a rough idea of costs for the PR route are as follows some in £s, others in $

* ielts- £125

* ANMC skills assesment- about $850

*visa application 189/190 $3060

after applying for visa you will get a case officer who will request medicals and police checks, I'm sure the medical is around £150-200 and police check £30 each person on your application.

* on top of these costs you also need to budget for resist of ielts, costs to get documents certified at court etc.

* agents are around £2000 to help with whole process however there are some who split the cost if you only need help with certain parts99

P.S my partner is overseas national with permanent residency in UK but not british passport holder and no children coming. (only 1 at uni and wants to stay with dad and may come after). so he will come on back of me thankyou in advance and sorry again x

*** my husband is Turkish however he does have his UK passport now, I've been told by agencies that it wouldn't matter if he had UK passport or not He'll still be treated the same if he has permenant UK residency. However they must prove they have functional English and if English isn't their first language or they haven't completed 2 years education in English in the UK then they either need to sit the ielts also and score 4.5 in each category or pay $4000 extra! Clearly my husband will be sitting the ielts!

The agency did say that as my husband has a UK passport it's unlikely he'll get asked for proof of his English but it's best to have the ielts just to be sure, paying £125 is much better than$4000!

Hope that helped you a bit, it's all very confusing but you'll get a lot of info from this site x

Hi Kel87, thanks for your reply and its helped alot.did not realise my partner needed ielts at all so thats a great help. im wanting to go around feb next year so looks like i need to start the ball rolling.

I did not realise you had to go to finalise registration with Aphra......that will cause a problem:s. thats a right pain i assumed if they had all id etc thats enough, even in uk you dont have to go in person!

Looks like get ielts first then and start collecting all documents required.

What made you go for PR is it a problem to get PR after a sponsored visa?

Good luck with everything hope all goes well, be nice to hear how you are getting on with things xx

Sorry I've just saw this!

The presenting in person to ahpra is a pain which is why I'm leaving it until last before I apply. I've read of people getting the 12months extended but not sure how that works.

We are going with PR as I feel it's more stable especially when going with kids, we're eligible for government help like tax credits and child benefit should we need it. We are also sure we want to live there permenanly so although the sponsored route may be quicker and cheaper it will cost more once we are there and have to apply for our PR and what happens if money is tight at that stage and we can't afford a PR visa. I worry about these things! :)

Good luck with everything! :)

Hi with regards to your husband not sure if you are aware but if out of the UK for more than 2 years will lose his PR and have to re-apply if things don't work out and you want to return and with no PR would need visitor visa for any holiday trips home as well. I know this as my hubby is Indian and got his PR recently and on the day we was told this info which has really messed up our plans to leave UK in June
