  1. Oh dear I quess I'm one of the ones who's picked funky names for their kids  Although my husband is Turkish and the names are not unusual there they are here in the UK but I still tried to choose wisely and pick names that sound ok here. My sons name is the most unusual but I love it and so does he even after we found out its the name of pepper just spelt differently haha.
  2. What a fantastic update! Well done on everything you've achieved so far. It's also nice to see there are other full time daddies in Adelaide (mine will be another) All the best for your future to come
  3. Think I've considered every state lately! All down to nursing jobs although Adelaide is definitely top of our list even if the job situation isn't looking too great  Thanks for the well wishes.
  4. Costing us Alot more than £2k and doing it alone. Ielts-£130 Skillsassesment £550 visa (189) now over £4k for my family, 2 adults and 2 kids. medicals not sure yet but around £300 each adult, £150 per child? Police checks-again not done yet but I'm thinking around £100 Then we have flights, shipping some boxes over and then setting up money! This better work out for us lol!
  5. Thanks for the link, I'm making this more complicated than it needs to be! He's getting booked in with our baby for the Hep B jabs and a trip to toysrus afterwards! Its definately me who's being the wimp, it's so much easier taking a baby or a teen for jabs instead of a hysterical 6 year old! , maybe il just send my husband with him!
  6. I'm not meaning not immunising him, I'm a nurse and I'm very for immunisation, both my kids are completely up to date with their UK immunisations, my baby is getting the Hep B here in the uk before we leave. I have read several posts today from people who have moved and only their children under 7 being asked to get the Hep B vaccine when arriving in Australia, any children over 7 have been told they will receive the vaccine before going to high school. I don't know why this is but it seems it has happened to a few migrants, 'calngary' being one I can't seem to word what I'm trying to ask right, I'm just curious why they ask for under 7s to get hep b wen arriving but if over 7 then they can wait till high school?
  7. Thanks again for the replies. Does anyone know if the centrelink payments are only affected if your child is under 7 and they are not up to date with Hep B? I know my son will need to receive the Hep B at some point but if he's 7 when we arrive then I've read he won't need to have it until he's due to start high school? He's told me he isn't doing it he'll just stay in scotland with his nana! it will be much easier to do it when he's at high school age however if it will cause issues with centre link and anything else when we arrive then il just have to do my best to persuade him to get it just now.
  8. Thanks for the replies. Spoke with my husband and I think we're going to book and pay for them here in the UK just so it's over and done with, the baby has just turned 1 so she should be fine and it might be a bit easier on my son if we do it here and bribe him with a trip to toysrus after each jab! Its £30 each injection so not too bad and we do have the time. thanks again.
  9. Hi, only today I have realised that kids under 7 will either require the Hep B vaccinations or an exemption form from GP once we arrive in Australia. My kids are fully up to date with their UK immunisations and therefore they will receive any that are required in Australia. As we don't leave until next year I was wondering if I should go ahead and get the Hep B here and get it over and done with? I understand I'll have to pay for them however I feel it would be better to do it now while we have time rather than waiting till we arrive. Did anyone do the same? My son may be 7 when we arrive, I say maybe as we're not sure exactly what month we plan to leave yet and wether we are validating first etc. If he is 7 when we arrive would he still need the Hep B or any other ones? Or will he get them before high school? Don't want to put him through getting them just now if he wouldn't have needed it when we arrive anyway. (I'm still traumatised from taking him for his pre-school ones a couple of years ago when he was hiding under the table and screaming!) our youngest is only 1 so will need it no matter when we leave and I'd much rather do it now before she gets any older and to the 'hiding under table' stage haha. They have both had chicken pox. thanks.
  10. Hi, as the title says really, we are extremely eager to move to adelaide however being the only earner at first the scare stories and lack of jobs available is worrying, I'm sure like anyone my main concern is securing a permenant position when we arrive. Does anyone feel the state they live In is still actively employing alot of nurses or is it generally the same story all over Australia? My background is 6 years mainly in respiratory and I do consider myself very well skilled in this area.
  11. Just had a memo in work regarding these, they are being banned from use in the hospital that I work in too. The reason (or so they say) is because they are not yet licenced and there isn't enough research been done to show the side effects that can be caused, apparently they will soon be a licenced 'medicine' but this can't be done until proper research has been carried out. Its a shame as quite a few of the patients in my ward have used them with good effect, was also much easier on us than having patients becoming awkward because they are desperate for a cigarette.
  12. I've donated what I can. If its even possible that anything good can come out of this, this is one thing.
  13. Hi, almost identical to us! I'm a nurse, OH is a security officer, we're heading for adelaide and been told his security qualifications mean nothing there contacted the government security department who advised he'd need to do a 1 week course at a cost of $1000 , they did say with his UK experience he should pass the course no problem and his experience will still count there he just needs their qualification.
  14. Everything rupert said and your medical records are destroyed after 10years so if theres anything you really need then get a copy but otherwise you don't need them. Il be getting my maternity records as had 2 premature babies and bad pregnancies just in case I'm crazy enough to have a 3rd lol. Good luck
  15. Hi, From posts I've read where a carer here in the UK has moved to OZ on their partners visa, their care qualifications haven't been recognised and they've had to do courses there to work as a carer. Im a nurse (Love it!) I work with a few nurses who were originally care assistants some trained themselves and some were 'put through' the university course by their employers, ie were an auxiallary, put through course by NHS trust they work for however they then had to continue working for that trust for a certain period of time after qualifying. It is the long option but it may be your only option and with your care experience it's likely you'll get accepted onto a nursing course, it's not all about educational qualifications , care experience counts a lot  Good luck
