GM89
Hi I am a graduate moving to Perth to work for a mining company. My job is office based and I was wondering what the dress code in Australian offices is. I found from interning in a UK based engineering office that you are expected to wear a suit. Would it be likely that the same applies in oz? Thanks!
Rugby Lad
I don't know the answer, always worn a uniform, but I find generally in life (not just work) go as smart as possible - in this case work suit, black shoes highly polished, tie etc. - and it's easy to rein it back from there. Noone's ever going to complain that you look too smart & professional Go the other way, not smart enough, and you're massively on the back foot
jove
maybe something like this? LOL http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1231082/Where-trousers-Amused-Duke-Edinburgh-presented-pair-shorts-royal-visit-Bermuda.html
northshorepom
It's generally much more casual here but as above, start smart and tone it down if norms suggest you can. Which they probably will. And remember the adage "Dress for the job you want, not the one you've got" ;-) I tend to wear a suit but that's because I like to. Actually, the casual mode of dress of many in the office makes me smarten it up even more, just to be contrary
wakeboard1980
Suit the first day then take it from there. What will your job role be? I know in Sydney construction offices the attire depends on the position.
GM89
Thanks for the replies. I am starting a graduate programme so I think my roles will vary. I think I will just show up in a suit on my first day and go from there.

Rupert
Definitely start with a suit, I find Australians are more formal and the "dress down" movement is less mature here than in UK.
GM89
I'm quite surprised its formal. I would have thought what with the climate dressing down would be really common.
