  1. This thread was exactly what I was looking for. Does anyone know if you can you keep your Australian bank accounts open if you leave permanently as I'm guessing this would be the easiest way to get your return.
  2. I don't really know what your point is... The point I was trying to make is that in so many 'quaint' villages there is nothing to do so kids go out and cause trouble instead. I had a good childhood and enjoyed it but kids do stupid stuff when they are bored.
  3. It is true that there is not a lot for kids to do (except sport). But in the evenings as a kid I would go and drink in the streets...believe it or not I was not a chav its just that if you want to have a social life that was the kind of thing you had to do. This is my experience of a medium sized village.
  4. Thanks for your reply..it makes more sense now. Then I do not know why the second company is getting me to apply for a new visa, despite the fact I explained that I already had one.
  5. Hi everyone Long story short: I accepted a job with a company and they sponsored me to get a 457 visa, which was approved. I then got an offer from another company (which I wanted more). I told them the other company had sponsored my visa but they said they would apply for one themselves. I don't understand.. surely I already have a visa and cannot apply for another. Or will the first company cancel my visa. Any info would be gratefully recieved. Thanks!
  6. My mate, who is now in oz sent me this to freak me out... http://failblog.org/2012/07/15/epic-fail-fail-nation-using-the-toilet-fail/
  7. Hi all Not that I will decide not to move to Perth if there are spiders there and this probably sounds pathetic ........BUT......... I have arachnophobia unfortunately. What's the spider situation in Perth?? I am not that fussed about how deadly they are strangely but how big, hairy and fast they are!! Thanks!
  8. It does have to be Perth yea as that's where my job is. I thought considering its quite a big city there would be a reasonable night life. I am used to London so I was kind of expecting a bit of a downgrade in liveliness. So if there isn't much night life was is the social scene based around?
  9. I'm quite surprised its formal. I would have thought what with the climate dressing down would be really common.
  10. Thanks for your reply. I like going out a lot.. more to bars and pubs than clubs. Also, would quite like to be near the coast but I guess its all quite near the coast. Somewhere with plenty of sports facilities too would be great.. I'm into my football (soccer).
  11. Thanks for the replies. I am starting a graduate programme so I think my roles will vary. I think I will just show up in a suit on my first day and go from there.
  12. Hi I have been offered a job in Perth but would be moving over there alone. I am 22 years old. Just wanted to know if anyone else has made the move alone? How did you find it? Any tips? Thanks!
  13. Hi I am a graduate moving to Perth to work for a mining company. My job is office based and I was wondering what the dress code in Australian offices is. I found from interning in a UK based engineering office that you are expected to wear a suit. Would it be likely that the same applies in oz? Thanks!
  14. Hi I have graduated from uni in UK and am moving out to Perth to work as an engineer in October. I am moving out there alone and do not really know much about Perth. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on which areas I should look at to live in. I just want somewhere where there are lots of other people in their 20s to meet. Also, do many people there do house shares? Thanks!
