Great news Kath. We also got ours granted today. It has been a great effort by everyone who helped get this concession but we could not have done it without the help and support of Julian Hill MP. He has been awesome! Now we can enjoy staying in this wonderfull country with our families. Good luck and best wishes to everyone who is still waiting.

Parent visa application timelines (143 & 173)

Hi Mel, we are doing them because our case officer requested them. I know it’s $800 for the two of us, not cheap but if it means we get our visa onshore happy to pay. Good luck.- 3,180 replies

Hi Mel, We paid our 2nd VAC in August and no we weren’t told our medicals and police checks would be extended. At that time all we were asked for was our travel itinerary to trigger the visa. Yes we have to do them again ( although we sent a declaration that we had not been back to the UK so didn’t have to renew the UK check). Our medicals are booked for the 3rd. Good luck.- 3,180 replies

Hi Kath, no that’s the extended date. Our case officer is on our side but can’t do anything until the amendment is put in place, which in his view isn’t going to be in the next couple of weeks. I’ll keep you posted.- 3,180 replies

We paid our second VAC last August. Our Medical’s run out on 6th March. We renewed our police checks in December. We are onshore Last week we were contacted by our case officer and told that he was waiting for the legislation to be introduced so we could get our visa before the expiry date. Yesterday he contacted us to say that the changes required might not happen as quickly as he had hoped( he has been very supportive) and that we should plan to have new Medical’s. We’ve decided to have them done in case the amendments aren’t made as quickly as we all had hoped. It just keeps dragging on.- 3,180 replies

Hi Kitty, you should email Julian Hill MP and tell him about this. He is trying to get parent visas included in the concessions.- 3,180 replies

I have also emailed Alan Tudge. Also Julian Hill has asked me to talk to the Sydney Morning Herald, I’m waiting for them to contact me. Surely if we keep the pressure on they will include parents in the concessions- 3,180 replies

The Minister who decides this is Alan.Tudge.MP@aph.gov.au Can I ask you all to email him to ask that parent visas are included. Why should we be discriminated against? All we want is to be with our families.- 3,180 replies

Hi all. I paid my 2nd VAC in August but because I’m onshore my 143 can’t be granted until I am out of the country. How many others are in the same position? My case officer contacted me yesterday to ask about my travel plans,I replied I’m waiting for the New Zealand bubble( hopefully). Not heard back.

@KittyMB @Kathss56 @MELBNGSM HI all, I have paid my 2nd VAC today and have received a reply from my case officer. As we are onshore ( on a 3 year 870) I asked whether my 143 could be granted. As I guessed I’ve been told that’s not possible and that my grant would be put on hold until we are able to travel. I have been asked to supply a travel itinerary when that’s possible. The reply said that we may need to have a new medical and police check. So it’s sit tight and enjoy this great country with our family.- 3,180 replies

We contacted the department on Wednesday setting out our situation, as yet we have heard nothing. As we have 28 days to pay the 2nd VAC I’m hoping we hear something soon. I’ll keep you posted.- 3,180 replies
