Fortunately as it’s our only home the implications aren’t too bad but certainly not ideal.

Thanks rammygirl. i had an initial screening interview with HSBC expat mortgages which was successful but I’ve got to wait three weeks before I can meet with an actual mortgage person and process the application. But as you say, expat mortgages have significant higher rates than the UK high street

Hi, we currently own a home in the UK and we are living in Oz. We currently have a resident mortgage on our home with a permission to let agreed by our mortgage provider. Our fixed rate period is due to expire soon and our mortgage is about to get really expensive. Can anyone recommend an expat mortgage company that doesn’t require you to work for a multinational company? thanks, joe

I think most UK based applications are being processed within 12 months but as we all know there are no guarantees. Good luck- 3,663 replies

Hi, Your timeline is similar to mine. I applied on 19th March, front loaded everything including medical and police checks but I’ve heard nothing. My wife and I have separate immi accounts and they appear to be linked in the same way as yours. Fingers crossed!- 3,663 replies

We have just tried to log into my wife’s account (the sponsor) and we can login ok but when we click the continue button an error message appears in red. We tried several times yesterday and again today and it keeps happening. I’ve tried completing their technical help form but it won’t submit either. Anyone else having this problem?- 3,663 replies

Hi Bluebird, Thanks for replying to my message. It’s great to hear from someone in a similar position. Good luck next week. I’ll PM you. Thanks

Thanks all for the advice it’s much appreciated. My plan A is to start a new career and plan B was to join the police. I was under the impression from recent advertising campaigns that both NSW and Victoria police were looking to significantly increase their numbers but if not I will explore alternatives.
-
My wife’s from Sydney and the purpose of our move is to be near her family as she did move to the UK 12 years ago to be near mine. However, she’s up for living in Melbourne as there are some really good career choices for her there and I can get some recognition of my UK police service with Victoria police. I was just wandering if anyone who was a UK police officer has now joined NSW police and how they found that experience? All state police forces only require PR but the AFP you have to be a citizen.
-
I’ve been a UK police officer for 16 years. I’m now a Detective Sergeant and run my own unit on specialist crime in the Met police. 10 years ago I married an Aussie and she now wants to go home. She’s from Sydney, NSW, the only state that doesn’t recognise UK police experience. Joining NSW will mean starting as a new recruit. I can stomach going back into uniform and taking a demotion but I’m not sure I can start at the very bottom again. Has anyone out there done this??

I applied on 19th March in the UK and my application still shows the status as ‘received’. I know the applications are taking a long time but I thought I might have progressed to the next stage by now, whatever that might be. Does anyone know if this is normal?- 3,663 replies

Yes we feel the same. So much money! The processing times are also disheartening, now 15-20 months. Some have said you may have to repeat the medical if visa isn’t granted within 12 months. Hope this isn’t true. Submitted our application on 19th March - we have heard nothing.
