Congratulations.
My application submitted on 1st July and still not approved, don't know why is immigration holding it.
The Immi website now states 4 months for the sponsorship application
Processing times
- 75% of applications: 4 months
- 90% of applications: 4 months

As long as the 143 was applied prior to the 870 then you are fine and in your case its definitely the case so you are fine.
See this article - https://www.sbs.com.au/language/english/long-stay-parent-visa-explained-all-you-need-for-the-sponsored-parent-visa
Can parents who have already applied for a permanent parent visa also apply for the Sponsored Parent visa (subclass 870)?
-
A question to all who have been granted the 870.
The 3 years - when does the 3 years start? Is it at the grant of visa OR first arrival?

congrats @Suzyq

there was another agent on the first page of this forum as well I reckon by the name of Lisa De Leon.. or just google for Chinese MARA agents in your town.

Thanks Linda, more on that @Malik1234, while applying for Subclass 600 you can advise in the application that you want your parent to be granted a 3 years multiple entry visa. There may be a medical examination requested by the case officer or may not depends on case by case basis. Also there may be a 8503 condition applied on the visa which restricts from applying for any other visa while the 600 is active but looking at your timeline you have already applied for 173 so 8503 should not be a worry. I have also read if you are waiting for your Parent Visa then you may also be eligible for 5 years tourist visa with multiple entries similar to 3 years one..hope that helps

That sounds promising, as I am 2017 September applicant which means 23 months have already passed and according to this it should be another 26-27 months.. so another 2.5 years...

I am new to this page. It's so good to see timelines and update from people on 143 visa. As you can't find this information anywhere else.
I have applied for my Father's 143 visa on 02/06/2016. So just wondering if anyone has any rough idea when I will be hearing something from the Department regarding request of documents or for AOS.
Thanks in advance.
Hi @gagan1991, I would suggest to go on the timeline page for all your timeline inquiries.

Can we still apply for the sponsorship part when the applicant is onshore?
Answering my own query if it helps anyone, YES we can start the process of sponsorship while the applicant is onshore.
-
Hi @Jessjessjess have you applied for the sponsorship approval? if so how long did that take for approval?

Hi Anks, I don't believe there's any reason not to be viable. I have done just that. I am just waiting on a decision as I have had my medical and the result should be with IMMI by now.
Thanks @Suzyq, how long did the entire process took for you?
Can we still apply for the sponsorship part when the applicant is onshore?
-
Thanks @Alan Collett for clarifying,
can you please also advise if it is viable to apply for 870 when one already has 600?
-
Just trying to understand the denial of Permission to apply and if any existing visa conditions were the reason for it.
-
Thanks Tina, were you having any other visa at the time the permission to apply was filed and did it had any conditions on it e.g. 8503?

Hi All,
quick question for those on a Subclass 600 eg 2 x 12 month stay over a 3 year period. Looking at what insurance to use. do you go for single trip or backpackers insurance and what seems to be the best company to use?
Dan
Hi Dan,
I have been using Bupa standard visitors cover for the last 5 years or so for my mum on 600 visa. The best thing I find with them is that you can suspend your policy for 6 months when the policy owner is not in Australia. Thus they don't loose any time for waiting medical queues and you don't pay for 6 months. In terms of policy it gives you the same benefits as on Medicare but in case of charges that are not charged as the MBS and charged as non-medicare patient Bupa only reimburses the medicare component which is quite a lot sometimes. Otherwise they are were very helpful and the turnaround time for any claims is very quick.
Cheers

Just bumped into this article
Immigration Minister David Coleman says, 1300 sponsorship applications and 170 visa applications have been lodged.
“As expected there has been strong demand for the new visa,” Mr Coleman said."
Quote from the article which baffles me is 170 visa applications have been lodged ( out of the quota of 15000) and still its adjudged as strong demand.

Be very careful with this. Generally, cruises that start and end in Australia, and are less than 30 days, do not count as having left the country. This catches a lot of people.
Thats correct. I got some useful info from another post
Hi All,
This might not be related to this forum however just want to know if anyone knows anything about cruises outside of Australia (Sydney to South pacific).
My mum is currently in Australia on tourist visa 600 with 8558 condition which lets her stay 12 months in Australia in 18 months period. From my understanding if shes goes out of the country during the 12 months period she can stay those number of days more in Aus. E.g. if she arrived in Australia on 1st May 2019 she should leave Aus on or before 30th April 2020. Now if we plan a cruise for 10 days to the south pacific will she be able to stay in Aus until 10th May 2020? Is it how this works? And if the south pacific cruise which is in the international waters considered her time out of Australia?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the link Alan, that's not good news but comes from the best source which means I will need to drop the idea of the cruise for my purpose.

Going on a cruise is not considered as departing Australia. You must book flights and leave through Airport.
Hi Dunken,
Thanks for a quick response, so even though we will be on international waters its still not considered departing Aus. As we havent done this before not sure about the procedure.. Isn't there an Immigration check post departing Aus?
