Hi guys
I am doing some ground work for my 870 application.
Now as I understand the police clearances for both sponsors and parents need to be submitted for all countries where the cumulative length of stay has been more than 1 year in the last 10 years. I need clarification on below please -
1. If the stay has been 2 months every year, over 6 years - that is classified as cumulative stay of 1 year - is that correct?
2. At what stage of the application do the sponsors need to submit their police clearances? Is this only once the case officer asks for it?
3. At what stage do the parents need to submit their police clearances? Is this only once the case officer asks for it?
Thanks!
Hi Arti,
1. Yes 6 years with 2 months every year counts for 12 months i.e. a year so you would need PCC for each country where they have stayed for 12 months or more.
2. To be honest its better to provide the PCC for sponsors at the time of sponsorship application, it speeds up the process.
3. At the time of when you are applying for the applicant i.e. your parent, again it does speed up the process if you submit all documents at the time you are applying as the AFP takes around 3-4 weeks and so does the Indian PCC.
Hope that helps.

Not sure which state you are based in and I can't say much about other states than South Australia. Here in Adelaide we have a few migration agents who conduct free early morning services to help people with their applications provided you yourself have done the hard yards and they will answer straight forward queries based on your case.
And then there are a few who charge you for an hour or so to go through your file, application and documents. I myself used one and was happy to spend $150 for the hour different visa though but don't see it should be any different. So my say would be to contact few agents in your area (don't go the cheap ones as @Marisawright suggested there are few who are worthless) and if you think your case is straight forward and all you need is a professional to see what you have done spend that $150 or so and have the peace of mind!

Happy New year all,
My query is regarding Form 80 but not for 143 at the moment instead for the long stay temporary visa subclass 870 and was hoping if someone can assist with few questions of form 80 which we will have to fill for 143 as well.
Question 17 - Address history for last 10 years, do we need to mention about Hotel accommodations for outside Australia as well for Holiday/Leisure trips?
Question 21 - if the answer to this is No, do we still need to fill in questions 25-29
Question 24 - Are you applying for a temporary visa, I am unsure about this one as 870 is a temporary visa and the departure date section is unclear. What date do we need to put in here? Should I forecast a date in future eg 5 years later or something if I am applying for 5 year 870 visa.
Any help is appreciated

Yes, it does.
Have a look at your visa application acknowledgment letter for the date of the visa application.
Best regards.
Thanks, my application date was July 2017 and acknowledgment in Sept 2017 so I save a couple of months
-
Does this mean that the date application lodged is the one we should be looking for (to understand the timeline movements) instead of the first acknowledgment letter received by dha?

Hi All,
I am trying to get an australian federal police check(AFP) for my parents done for the visa 143. I am having a hard time figuring out what identity documents should i submit to complete the 100 point identification requirement as they live overseas. The only identification document that sort of fits the list as per the AFP website is there overseas passport:
https://www.afp.gov.au/what-we-do/services/criminal-records/national-police-checks#contact
Also do the parents need to submit finger prints for AFP check for the visa 143. Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

Birth certificate + Bank statements?
If you still can't cobble together 100 points of ID, the AFP FAQ says:
I am unable to meet the identification requirements to make an application, what should I do?
If you are unable to meet the identity requirements, you should contact us and depending on your circumstances we may be able to assist.
Thanks @PrettyIsotonic

Hi All,
One of the documents to be provided for the application for 870 is the AFP NPC. Does anyone know what documents can we provide for a 100 points check for the AFP NPC if the applicant is non-Australian apart from the foreign passport

Thanks @VictoriaP, I hear you regarding the way too long wait for the 143 and the dilemma and hassle if 3 years isn't going to cover the stay and wait for 143. I am still waiting for the sponsorship and maybe then will need to decide if I go for 3 or 5 years. Is there anything that you can suggest I can do while I'm waiting for the sponsorship to be approved so that I can save some time e.g. any forms or documents that I can start filling or gathering?
-
@VictoriaP thanks for sharing your timeline... did the DHA gave you a reason to reject your sponsorship application the first time??
And I see that you are just one month ahead of my 143 application and you applied to the 5 year 870, you reckon it will be another 5 years before you get a CO call for the 143?
-
Hi All 870 sponsors/applicants, could you all please share timelines for these applications?
just want to know what month is the DHA processing for both of these applications.
I have updated my signature.
-
I applied for my mum in July 2017 so not far off from both you which is already 27 months. And the processing of 870 is also going out of control when one thought that it would be an easy and quicker way to come and stay for long. I have recently applied for the 870 sponsorship and it was 4 months then it quickly its gone to 5 months and then the actual application for 62 days ie another 2 months so in total at least 7 months before we get 870. So according to these timelines would be thinking that the 3 years 870 might just be the one but who knows that the 143's 50 months can change.
-
With the renew part of the 870, one can renew it to stay for a cumulative maximum 10 year period. To do that one can get 5 years visa costing $10000 twice so total cost $20000 for 10 years. Now if someone applies for the 3 years 870 ($5000) they can only renew it for a maximum of 9 years (total cost $15000) i.e. 3 times 3 years visa OR 8 years with a second renewal of 5 years (cost $15000 again). So to gain an extra 1 year by going for 5 year twice they are paying $5000 more
Of course if that is what any individual's circumstance allows, going away for 90 days in 3 years as oppose to in 5 years and also if the system doesn't change in the next 3-5 years when one is due to renew.
