The 12 months validity is needed until the visa is granted not used. People need to sell houses and organise removals before arriving in Australia. I submitted my visa the same day my police checks came through as adding paperwork at a later date can slow processing. As soon as I submitted my visa I was promted to book my medical so I will do that on Monday. With a 90% chance that it will be processed in time I feel confident. How long are you waiting to do your medical and police checks?

I have now submitted and paid for my application and I have been sent referral letters to book my medical exam. There is a code inside the referral letter that the panel physician uses to submit the results directly back to my file with the Home Office so it looks like it is a fairly simple process. Hopefully we can get an appointment fairly quickly and then I guess we just wait?!

On my Immiaccount application it asks for character references and police checks are one of the options to submit. They only take 10 days so I decided to include them. I haven’t been asked for medical information yet so will wait for that. What stage are you at? Did you submit without police checks? If so, what did you submit as good character evidence? Are you also applying for the 489?

I just thought I would start a new thread so that we can compare timelines for the 489 visa. I am just waiting on my criminal check certificate to arrive before I submit and pay for my visa application and am curious about what happens afterwards. I know that at some point we will be given a code to use for our medical assessments but am keen to know an approximate timeframe for this as we are going to South Africa for two months over Christmas and don't want to miss any deadlines. I have chosen not to do the medicals until prompted as suggested on the Department of Home Affairs website. Is there anyone out there one step ahead of me who can shed some light as to what to expect next. Thanks heaps

I am just wondering whether anyone can share their 489 timeline so far? I have just submitted my visa application via Immiaccount but proof of employment documents were not on the list of requirements and there wasn't any space for adding more of my own? Also I am in South Africa for December and January and am worried that I will be called to do my medicals while I am away. Could anyone enlighten me on the approximate schedule of the rest of the process and what to expect next please? Thanks!

A little update....My state application was successful and I got my SkillSelect invite on Tuesday this week! Hooray! Just waiting on Police Certs which take 10 days and a couple of Aussie family members to pass on their citizenship dates to complete the 18 page application and I will submit!!

I submitted application 11 days ago and still waiting on result. I’ve heard other people have a response within 24-48 hours so hoping it’s any day although they posted recently to say expect delays.

We (DH, twin 7 year olds and myself age 40) are currently applying for Oz visa for Queensland so the complete opposite situation and it’s breaking my Mums heart that we are leaving. However I am a great believer in living life’s journey listening to your gut. Although this feels right now I wouldn’t hesitate to reconsider in ten years if my heart changes. No one can predict the future or predict how other people in your life will react to your decisions. You may find unexpected doors opening or results you couldn’t predict from following your heart. Life is too short to feel something so strongly and not act on it. Be brave and don’t let your anxiety mask your intuition.

My Queensland 489 only took a month but we had 80 points with superior English which I think helped.

Wow! Thanks that’s really quick! Congratulations! I’m still waiting and it’s been over a week now...does it arrive via email? Could I please ask did you wait until your official invite before getting Medicals? I’ve searched online but can’t find a link to detailed info on getting these done. Did you get some additional info with your application? Many thanks Fingers crossed my invite appears soon as I’m getting anxious somethings wrong?! Everyone appears to have had acceptances quite quickly!

I just checked online and they have reduced the wait time to 9-12 months but its funny how you received your official invite two working days after state application and I'm still waiting a week later - it makes me wonder if I did something wrong! I would be interested to keep in touch as we are similar stages. Best of luck.

Its so nail biting not knowing their schedule! Are you now expecting your official application to take 10-15 months to complete or have you heard any differently? Hi, I had an email from Queensland advising of my nomination invitation but my EOI still has no invitation from the DHA. My understanding is that the EOI will only change to 'invited' once the Department of Home Affairs offers an invitation following a successful nomination application. My question is how long does the nomination application take to go through? I was invited on the 4th September and have submitted my application last week but heard nothing. Its nail biting!!

How long from state nomination does the state application take to complete and for the invitation from DHA to arrive?

I think it varies greatly. We waited a month from EOI to nomination from Queensland.

I submitted out 489 EOI for a COOK for Queensland, on the 30th July and updated it on the 2nd September which increased my points to 80. We had an invite on the 4th September. I am hoping that the application process is fairly straight foward! I hope this helps.

Hi Our Vetassess assessment took 6 months from start to finish but was easier than we thought if that helps? We ended up with 80 points and had a Queensland invitation a month after submitting out EOI.
