  1. Hi all I wonder if anyone might be able to help me? I arrived in Qld on a 489 visa with my partners skills and am reliant on our relationship to stay in the country. However, the relationship is not stable and we have two children that I want to remove from the situation. My sister lives in Perth and since we don't qualify for centrelink support, I wanted to stay with her and set up a new life there. If I contact the department of Home Affairs to ask for their permission what do you think they will say? I don't want to take the girls out of the country completely due to my husbands parental rights to see them but feel like I have no where else to go. Thanks
  2. Great thanks! We are moving to Noosa in Queensland.
  3. Thanks thats great information. We will definitely take a shorter term rental as you are the second person to advise us of this! Thank goodness I asked. I will take a look at the gov.au site for property info. Thanks again Kerry
  4. Thanks thats awesome! Really really useful. I have found an agent who leases properties unseen but there is a waiver to sign and its always more of a risk so maybe it would be best for us to book a short term holiday rental first. I will check out those links. I can see you only came back to the UK for a year before returning to Oz - thats reassuring! It's such a big move and as it gets closer it becomes quite overwhelming. I am very excited but there is sooooo much to organise. I hope you are happily settled again and back on the property market yourselves! Thanks again for all your support Kerry
  5. Wow OK, both really good points. We were going to try to secure a rental before we arrived but were a but dubious about not visiting it first. Maybe we should secure a short term holiday rental first and wait until we can view a property properly. We are looking at realestate.au quite regularly - maybe I should take a closer look to see if they also offer foreign purchase advise. Thanks again - invaluable info. Kerry
  6. Thanks Marisa! Thats really helpful. I didn't know that about the property market over there! We were hoping to buy within the first year and are in the middle of selling our home here, which I think we still need to do in order for us to have a clean break? If you have any other Australian property buying tips or could point me in the direction of a good website I would be really appreciative. Many thanks again Kerry
  7. Hi all We are off to Oz in August and so excited! We have clarified that the schooling is free under the 489 visa but I am still unsure where we stand with healthcare. Do we need insurance? Are we eligible for anything in Australia? Any info would be much appreciated! Thanks heaps Kerry
  8. Thanks everyone your help is really kind. We have packed two boxes of kids toys to ship ahead of the move to help them settle and they have big step sisters to bond with when they get there. All our furniture is second hand (we used to own a vintage furniture shop) and so we will get back approximately what we paid for it by selling it here. Being in the business of acquiring furniture we are not fazed by this process and are looking forward to starting over with some new pieces but I totally understand this will be an expensive time consuming process. We have done some price comparisons but your comments have made me wonder whether I should go back and check again. Has anyone else arrived with just suitcases and have any comments or advise on this process? Thanks again kerry
  9. Thanks for taking the time to reply. You are right about not showing any weakness, I guess the jitters are affecting the kids as well as me but I’m just about holding it together! Im totally convince that we are making the right decision but it was definitely easier a year ago to look at all the positives. As it gets closer I guess the practicalities start coming into focus and the hard work ahead starts to hit home! We plan to travel very lightly and are trying to teach the girls the art of letting go of material possessions which they might be finding harder than us. I know it will all come good eventually and really appreciate your view from 16 months down the road. Thanks again for your support and advise Kerry
  10. Hi! Thanks for your reply. We are going to Noosa in Qld. Have you made the move yet?
  11. Hi all Its very reassuring reading all these posts as we are leaving 5th September this year and are just moving out of our house to sell it and holiday let it (hopefully at the same time) to get the funds ready to move. The reality is hitting us especially our twin 8 year olds who have been so excited since we started this whole process but who now say they don’t want to go!!!! My family live so close by and even though I want my independence from the ‘family circle’ I know I’ll feel so homesick. Did anyone else feel the same but now super settled or at least really confident with their emigration decision? It it was five years in the making for us but these last minute jitters are killing me!!! thanks x

  13. Hey, hows it going? Any news on the visa yet?

  14. Great! Hopefully less than three weeks! Best of luck.
  15. I can't quite believe that its happened but in THREE MONTHS including the Christmas period we have been GRANTED OUR VISA!!! From what I have read it is definitely quicker to front load everything and it worked for us so I hope this is of help to someone. Happy New Year! Our 489 timeline was: First IELTS Failed 20/1/18, Vetassess submission 5/2/18, Second IELTS - 8.5 21/4/18, Positive Vetassess result 30/7/18, EOI submitted 15/8/18, Invitation from Qld 4/9/18, Qld application submitted 13/9/18, Request for more documents 24/9/18, Successful Qld nomination 25/9/18, Visa application submitted 4/10/18, GRANT NOTIFICATION 5/1/19
  16. Hi Friends I have a couple of questions relating to my recent 489 visa application and wondered whether anyone could compare notes with me? Some forums refer to uploading ‘certified’ copies of documents but I have successfully navigated the both the QLD state application and Vetassess application by simply photographing and uploading my original certificates/passports etc. I did the same for my visa application and am now worried they might come back to me requesting ‘certified’ copies of everything? Can anyone shed some light on this? Also I was married previously but haven’t ever changed my name so I submitted my birth and current marriage certificate as proof of my age and relationship status but I have read somewhere that you also need to submit your old marriage certificate plus divorce papers which I have lost and cost £65 to duplicate. Do you think I need to upload these even though my name has never changed? Many thanks!
  17. They keep it in the system as due to constantly changing circumstances your EOI isn’t static. For example you might acquire more years of work experience as time ticks by, increasing your overall points, or you might resit an English test and get better results leading to higher overall points.
  18. Our 489 timeline so far: First IELTS Failed 20/1/18 Vetassess submission 5/2/18 Second IELTS - 8.5 21/4/18 Positive Vetassess result 30/7/18 EOI submitted 15/8/18 Invitation from Qld 4/9/18 Qld application submitted 13/9/18 Request for more documents 24/9/18 Successful Qld nomination 25/9/18 Visa application submitted 4/10/18 Fingers crossed its a quick turnaround as its been a long application process!
  19. Hi Parveen, I think it depends on why you were refused in 2013. They do ask if you have had any visa refused before in the application so you will have to declare that, and then probably explain why. As long as the reasons for refusal are not still the case I can't imagine why they would still be a problem but I am no expert. I am also pretty sure that you can apply for the 489 whilst still on a 457. However, I thought that the old 457 was also a route to permanent residency? Are you not able to do that through your current employer?
  20. They already supplied the referral letters, did they supply you with those too? When did you apply? Do you know when they might ask for them? Sorry for so many questions!
  21. Thank you this is such valid info. How long would you recommend waiting to do medicals? Won’t it hold everything up?
  22. Holy shit guys this is serious news! Do we all have to go or just the main applicant?
