She has a scv 444 visa so apparently I can

The issue is whether she is an "eligible NZ citizen" or not, which is defined under social security legislation rather than immigration law. If she is then it's a 309, if she's not then it's a 461. You don't have a choice in the matter.

Some info and further links here: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/entering-and-leaving-australia/new-zealand-citizens/entitlements

Arrive at UK...look at queues. Choose quickest passport to enter, which you then also use to leave.

    It's the same queue:

    "

There are over 270 eGates in place at 15 air and rail ports in the UK to enable quicker travel into the UK.

You can normally use eGates if you:

    • have a biometric symbol on the cover of your passport
    • are aged 10+ (10 to 17 year olds must be accompanied by an adult)
    • are either:
      • a British citizen
      • a national of an EU country, Australia, Canada, Iceland, Japan, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland or the USA
      • a member of the Registered Traveller Service"

We've lived in the UK all of these years - will I, as his sponsor, also need to get a UK police check?

    Yes, you will.

I don’t think I have ever uploaded more than around 40 documents, usually less. You can combine things into logically grouped pdf files.

The temporary sponsored visa 485 I think can go beyond 45 but wouldn’t convert to PR.

482 I think you mean … yes, no age limit on the temporary visa and there are some very limited circumstances where there are post-45 PR pathways, but you need to go looking and have the right profile.

When I did the ETA last year the question was asking whether you had other passports as opposed to citizenship.

Interesting … the wording for the eVisitor is most definitely citizenship.

    Hi all.

can anyone help with any information on submitting a skills assessment for construction project manager (ANZCO 133111) with a NVQ level 6. It’s confusing with the equivalent AQF frame work and understanding whether or not the qualification, along with 10 years in the position will be given a positive assessment.

“This occupation requires a qualification assessed as
comparable to the educational level of an Australian
    Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor degree
or higher, in a field highly relevant to the nominated
    occupation.
Applicants must also have at least one year of
    highly relevant, post-qualification employment,
at an appropriate skill level completed in the last
    five years.”

So, it will depend on whether Vetassess consider the qualification sufficiently relevant and/or at the correct level. If it were me, or one of my clients, I would be asking the question of them directly

    Hey everyone

Just a quick question if anyone can help.

I’ve just got a new passport for my daughter and I’ve updated the passport number on my immi account.

Just checking is that all I need to do so that we can leave the country and re-enter without any issues?

Yep … and you should confirm that it’s all done by checking VEVO. Take the old passport if in any doubt.

I would have thought that the Aus government, upon receiving the details of a foreign passport as part of the application for citizenship by descent, would prevent that foreign passport from subsequently being used to apply for a visa, however I know of people who have managed to get a visa (evisitor / ETA) and were allowed to Australia using the smartgates, so they never even had to tell an immigration officer they were actually a citizen.

Then they have lied on their application forms … you are asked if you have other citizenships and what they are. Australia is not available from that drop-down box.

first, we need to go through an expensive process to confirm our qualifications and a costly language test. Is there a better and more reliable option?

Nope … that’s the way the process works. Depending on nationality, you may be eligible for short term working holiday visas, but these are not generally a pathway to permanent residence or you could look at employer sponsored visas which may offer PR pathways.

    Hi All,

Please could anyone tell me the age limit for FIFO rope access workers, I'm a level 3 age 62 but extremely fit level 3 since 1992 please be easy !

For a permanent visa, pretty much no chance. For a temporary one … it might be possible if an employer were to sponsor you but more info needed.

I stand corrected as this was never the case previously. However, when I just searched the list they only want IP lawyers (a very limited category).  Barristers are specified as a general category but, as they are contractors affiliated to chambers, they don’t have employee rights and it’s a hard market to break into. You need connections from law school or have gone to the right private schools to make it here.
The shortage of specialist IP lawyers is because outside of Sydney and Melbourne there is little work and what there is is run of the mill. Most young Aussies who specialise in this field go to London or the US to get interesting work. They come back after a few years for family reasons and often go in-house to universities. The IP teams in top tier law firms are very small.

Solicitor has been on the skill shortage list since at least 2014.

I’m not sure where you saw the information about only IP lawyers? The relevant skills list does not have any caveats for ‘Solicitor’ and therefore is open to any suitably qualified solicitor. Of course, that does not guarantee an invitation or employability, as with any occupation.

Firstly I don't think lawyers have ever been on the skills list for Australia.

Actually, solicitor and barrister are both on the Medium and Long-term Skills Shortage List and are available for independent skilled migration.

If you cash out your super, and it's sitting in an Australian bank account BEFORE you move to the UK, then it's just savings.

I’d be taking some professional advice particularly in regards to tax years and tax residency (or residencies) in the year that the OP moves. One for @Alan Collett

Thanks, Below mentioned definition of member of family unit is the reason of my confusion.

    https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/help-support/glossary

"For visa purposes, you are a member of the main applicant's family unit if you are:
the main applicant's spouse or de facto partner
the main applicant's child, or their partner's child, who is not engaged, married or in a de facto relationship and is:
    aged under 18 years, or
aged 18 to 23 years and dependent on the main applicant or the main applicant's partner, or
aged 23 years or older and dependent on the main applicant or the main applicant's partner due to a partial or total physical or mental disability
the dependent child of the child above"

    Asked and answered ;- )

    Hi.
I was looking for a bit of as for a143 visa. I was reading up on this and it said the age limit was 65.5. Me and my partner are 64 so can we apply for the 143 if we have the application in before we are 65.5 or does the application need to be granted before you are 65.5. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Not sure where you read that … it’s a parent visa, there is no age restriction.

Thanks for including the link so I could read the whole article.

These proposals are set to be implemented in April 2025, by which the time the current government will almost certainly no longer be in power. So will they still go ahead?

Yes … this was Labour policy long before the Conservatives hijacked it.
