Parent visa application timelines (143 & 173)
Jellybean T replied to theballies's topic in Family / Partner Visas
Thanks for that info Marisawright, I will try and get official clarification on that when things calm down a bit. I have my visa grant and was due to fly on the 8th of April before the flight was cancelled. Also I live in Spain and we went into lockdown on the 16th March until the 30th but it's now been extended to 14th April so maybe once the lockdown is lifted we may be allowed to finally fly once the flights are available again. We have the added complication of taking our dog who had her final blood tests on the 13/3 and must fly in 45 days from then or start the blood tests again. The furniture etc was collected last Friday so will arrive in Australia before us. Wasn't expecting anything like this after waiting 4 years for the Visa.- 3,180 replies

Will you be allowed enter Australia now that it’s in lockdown. Are you classed as a permanent resident before it’s validated?- 3,180 replies

I know that feeling as we live in Spain and always fly to UK first and overnight in a hotel as it takes far too long flying from Spain. Less than 2 months now for us and we will be in Adelaide permanently. Keep Smiling- 3,180 replies

You will get there, I understand completely how frustrating it is putting our lives on hold especially when Grandchildren are growing up without us. I always tried looking at flights for my next trip just after I got back from visiting them, it gave me something to look forward to.- 3,180 replies

Sorry Spikey but as your name implies you are Spikey! 173 applicants have waited a long time to get their 173 visa and are entitled to their 143 as soon as they can get it... they are not scuppering your 5 year timeline at all as 2019 applicants are realistically looking at a much longer wait than 5 years.- 3,180 replies

Hi Erica, Each case can differ as it use to be dependent on medicals and police reports still being in force, as they only last for 12 months some people only got a couple of months or less to validate their Visa. We had our medicals done in August 2019 our Visas were granted 29th November and we have until 29/11/2020 to validate.- 3,180 replies

Visa 143, Year 2015, AOS requested

I don’t think it matters whether you have an account with CommBank or not as my son had an account with them and still had to pay $150. -

Hi Bridgie, We were nearly 4 months from invitation to Grant. The time goes very slow while you’re waiting for information at each stage. Hopefully you’ll here soon.- 3,180 replies

That’s terrible news for all applicants after 2015/16, waiting 4 years felt like a lifetime especially when you were told 18/24 months. They need to give realistic time frames so people can make an informed decision as to whether to apply or not. New applicants must be looking at more than a 10year waiting time.

You’re so right about life being on hold but we got there in the end. We’ll fly out next April even if the house isn’t sold as we’ve wasted enough of our life, just rent until the house sells. Start living the dream !!!! as my son puts it. I hope someone gives you the information about the 28 day thing. I think it was in a post in June this last year but can’t remember who posted. X

Hi Angela, I think you could be right as they won’t grant while your in Oz and if they ask for 2nd Vac payment I think you only get 28days to leave Aus so they can Grant the visa. Maybe someone who has been through the process will tell you. It would just be nice to know for sure why you haven’t heard.... it’s the not knowing that causes the stress. Have a great Christmas.

Hi Kari, Paid 2nd Vac 28/11 by Bpay, sent the receipt of payment via email and received the Visa Grant 29/11. If you are currently in Australia you will have to leave before Visa Grant. Good Luck

Sorry Ammy, I saw Ammy143 and didn’t check your time line. I can now understand your concern as to what’s holding your visa up. No AoS to hold you up... the least they could do is answer your email, the whole process really needs looking at. It is so stressful waiting and not knowing if you have missed an email or a document, even not knowing how long to put your life on hold.- 3,180 replies
