  3. Thanks for all the information .. I just wanted to confirm when you transferred your money from an Australian bank to your bank in the UK did you get charged any fee by any of the receiving or remitting banks. .. Usually an intermediary bank gets involved I believe world first uses citi bank. .. If you haven't paid anything additional & i ain't getting too personal which banks did you use for your transfer in oz and receive in UK. I too am quite impressed with world first and have been in constant communication with them but can't seem to get an idea of the interbank charges (of course it's not world first business to advise as they are just the transfer agents and they ain't charging anything Best regards Nick
  4. I am a sailor and work with a Greek company, my wages are credited directly by my employers into my bank account.. My employer doesnt contribute to my super at all.. AA) What is the best option for me to save on tax using a super account. BB) As my employer is not Australian Can I make personal contributions from my bank account into my super fund at the end of the financial year (i.e. max allowable ) and pay only 15% tax on that amount.. CC) My annual salary is say $100000. If I invest $15000 in the Super from my salary , does my ""TAXABLE INCOME"" come down to $85000. To make my question more clear; do I have to pay income tax on $85000 and not on $100000." Rgds Nick

  6. Your COR is a document amsa gives based on your existing COC.. ON your coc it's not endorsed it's only fit to sail on tankers... So your other dc and chemical endorsements are invalid. ... GMDSS you will have to pay for because it's a part of your COC... Still better I would email amsa with my exact query and phone them and confirm the same... Best regards Nick

  14. I would say keep the option of settling on oz open ... just for the case of children's education if you have an option of extending your pr then may as well exercise it.... I believe there is a way incase you haven't been able to satisfy the condition for aus citizenship you can extend your pr for another few years by that time you should have a fair idea if your children need that aussie benefit for education and living. ... A bit of Google search might help on method of extending pr.. Best regards Nick

  19. I suggest u create an account on realestate.com.au and fill in their online form along with all the attachments they need... Once you know your arrival dates 3 weeks before daily short list the houses you would like to visit. .. The dates will immediately reflect on your Google calendar there by giving you an idea of your iternary Keep a viewing of maximum 3-4 houses in a day. .. if you hire a car you can do more. ... Once your visit and like the house immediately then and there apply for it from the same realestate.com.au application .. This will put you first in line for reference checks and availability. .. Another trick you can use is put it in your profile that you are ready to pay 3 months rent upfront in addition to the deposit (of course if you can afford it ) The readiness of funds may give you a slight advantage over the others. .. Best regards Nick
  20. All you master mariners who are planning to come to oz. ... Please bear in mind that the job market here is totally in recession. ... So don't expect to get a job over night or even within 6 months. ... My advice would be once you have filed your final papers and are awaiting the visa. ... do a test trip to Australia preferably on WHV VISA put forward yourself, apply for jobs, live here, and then decide on your move. ... As your visa is in progress keep applying for jobs... For you and your better half... Also please get your better half's skills assessed as well. .. She may have a better chance of a job than you and even if she secures a job at least half the burden is lifted... Best regards Nick
