  1. So I am not sure what happened, I came out the exam yesterday feeling crap as I was tired and struggled to focus in the exam, I messed up on one of the repeat sentences in that I stuttered and forgot the words, I then had to think quickly to say the rest of the sentence. Also on 2 of the short answers I answered too quickly and answered wrong (as per above post), however I then waffled and said the correct word without letting the timer expire, which appears to have worked. So I finally did it! L90,R90,L90,W86!
  2. Quick question on the short answers, if you answer wrong does that count as a mistake for the speaking? Such as how many sides does a hexagonal shape have, if I rushed and answered 5, but the correct answer is obviously 6, I assume I lose speaking marks? Or does the fact the answer is related and therefore you have understood the question give you a mark?

    Pte practice

I sat IELTS with zero prperation and got S9,R9,L9,W7, I knew my writing would be the hard one as I rely on a spell cheaker at work too much! I then did PTE-A with no practice and messed up on the Speaking element! I've just boguht the $9.99 practice questions and I would say that it is worth it just so you know the format of the questions etc. for some reason I just found the speaking element to be strange and struggled with it, my spoken English is perfectly fine hence the 9 in the IELTS equivilant! Hopefully I will get the 79 I need tomorrow!
  4. I would not say I have a strong accent, I guess it is slightly mancunian but I work down south and also in a global office and noone here has ever mentioned my accent! I think the issue was more down to how I answered the questions, I got a bit flustered on one of the re-tell the lecture and also I know I got one of the simple answers wrong as I paniced a bit and said the wrong thing! I got 77 and only need 79 on speaking so hopefully I can get the extra 2 marks this weekend!
  5. I've done this twice now, the first time I clicked next on the speaking before the mic stopped recording, overall I got a bad score here but I think this was more to do with how I approached the test than the mic. On the second attempt I left the recordings to run to the end, like you they did not stop after 3 seconds. I do not think this affected my score as it improved, but I still did not get the needed 79 in speaking! (I got Level 9 in IELTS)
  6. I would first refer to their website http://www.cpaaustralia.com.au/become-a-cpa/migration-assessment/criteria-and-requirements, in brief you fill in an online form and pay their fees, then email them your documents for assessment. These include degree certificate, transcript and syllabus details, you then need to wait around 4-6 weeks.
  7. I have recently received a positive skills assessment from CPA, however I am a CIMA member not ACCA but my skills assessment was on my degree not my acocunting qualification, and my work experience counted is from getting my degree not my accounting qualification. Therefore if you have a degree in accounting or something similar it would be this you got assessed as therefore it would not matter if you are an affiliate or full member. However if your degree is not in accounting then I am not sure if you would get a possitive assessment as you have not finished your qualification. Also I have not listed my CIMA qualification on my EOI as I am claiming points for the degree.
  8. I didn't do any practice, I sit in front of a computer all day so my written is generally OK, I just depend on the spell checker too much now! As others have said, the best thing to do is go back over what you have wrote a few times reading it slowly to look for errors, and try not to use words you are not 100% on spelling.
  9. I sat the exam yesterday at LSBF, this was my second attempt at the PTE-A, similar to you 1 area speaking let me down at 77 which was an improvement from 67 last time. In the IELTS-A it is the writing which lets me down at 7.5 but I can get 9's in the rest. Really not sure what to do now, I've sat each test twice! If you read the rescore page it states that it is rescored by a computer, so not much point in that.
  10. I've used my airmiles to go business class with BA, this gives a 96kg allowance. Obviously very costly if you don't have airmiles but for me it was 125k miles and £450 taxes one way. Most of these miles I've gathered in a year from spending on an BA Amex card: 26k joining bonus, 9k for recommending my partner, 26k for her signing up (joint airmiles account), 1 trip to NYC 25k.
  11. The syllabus I sent did not have anything to indicate it was real, it looked official but was not signed or stamped, and was a very basic black and white scan. If I had the time I could have produced it myself to look the same, this was 90 pages of information though so would have taken me a very long time! I think one of the reasons it took CPA a while to process my skills assessment is because these documents contained details for a lot more modules than I actually studied, so make sure if you can just provide details for the modules CPA want. As Diana said, you do have the option to provide a statutory declaration with your own if no official syllabus is avalaible.
  12. I studied Accounting and Financial Management at Sheffield Hallam in the UK, I know there were 6 or 7 different finance related degrees at the time and all had overlapping modules, all were assessed exactly the same as far as I was aware, we were in the same lectures and exams for the overlapping modules, and they still lead to CIMA exemptions. My degree was not accreditied so I just emailed Uni and had to pay a fee (£35), they then sent me two 45 page course syllabus (two because the content changed midway through my degree). Also the syllabus i was sent had the title of all the different degrees on and contained all modules, even the ones I did not sit, I assume they cross referenced this with my results transcript to see my modules. I scanned and sent this to CPA with my applcication and all was fine, so maybe offer to pay your university?
  13. Thanks, just booked on for a couple weeks (next time I am free), I think I will focus on the speaking practice this time, I am guessing I just did not do what was needed to get the marks. I also finished the whole thing in under 2 hours so I should probably proof read my work a bit more as my spelling score was low, I think I rely on spell checker too much! Thinking about it a bit more I would have to say so far I prefer the IELTS, but as I know my writing is the weak point I think PTE-A does remove some of the pressure the way it assesses more than one element at once. Having done so many exams in the IELTS format over my life time (School, College, Degree, Professional Qual) I was completely relaxed here, however sitting an exam on a PC I am not use to! Especially when others are talking around you.
  14. I'm not sure which test I prefer, I'm a native English speaker and have sat IELTS twice and PTE-A once: Listening: 9,9,88 Reading: 9,9,86 Writing: 7,7.5,80 Speaking: 9,9,66 I was fine before all the exams but I found the speaking elements of PTE-A off putting and either couldn't think what to say e.g. in the lecture, or lost my thoughts when repeating sentences A bit annoyed I improved my writing as needed but then fell over somewhere I would not have expected!
