  1. I'm ok for the Wikipedia info on Border Collie's thanks! I'll just go by how fit and healthy our dog is and see what happens!
  2. Hi All, Just thought I would start a post to find out what people's experiences have been of buying a house in Melbourne or Australia in general! What the house prices are like for the space you get, how easy to get a home loan. Are you able to get a home loan on a 189 permanent residency visa or do you have to wait until you have citizenship? Thank you!
  3. Hi All. We we are moving over to Melbourne in November and will have about $60k in savings for Aus. Meet have worked out that we could afford rent, a car, bills and living with this for 4-5 months if we really needed to and couldn't find a job within that time! We are looking to take some time off anyway and aiming to start jobs in the new year :-) I think it's all about how you live and what you spend your money on. If the most important thing is making sure you can pay rent, bills and food then that's fine!
  4. We were hoping to be near the city but not in the city. Looking at South Melbourne/Albert park areas and the surrounding areas near there really! Hopefully it will be ok! I've put together a renting profile for us and the rental properties we have rented whilst having the dog in the UK.
  5. Ah that's great! We are looking the South Melbourne/Albert park area ideally. We will be over from November and the dog will follow the end of Jan so we have plenty of time!
  6. Dont know where you have heard that or if you know Border Collies. They can live until they are 20! My family Border Collie was 17 when she died. Our ur vet has said he is very healthy with a very healthy heart so I would be bringing him over to be with us.
  7. That makes me feel a bit better about the situation. I will definitely put a info sheet together about us and we can definitely prove we can pay rent. We have been renting a house which is owned in our family, do you think it's worthwhile having a reference type letter from this rental in the UK? It is just my in laws though that own it so don't know how much that would stand up? thank you!
  8. Thank you! He definitely is very well behaved, does everything we tell him and very well trained! Ive just read a few stories where people have really struggled with renting with a dog and it scared me a bit! I might put a little dog profile together for him, ha :-)
  9. Hi All, so I just wanted to get some advice....myself and my husband are emigrating to Melbourne in November and we are bringing our 12 year old male border collie across at the end of January. From things i have read, is it hard to rent a house in Melbourne with a dog? we have enough money to put down more of a bond if needed, but just wondered what people's experiences where?? thanks in advance!
  10. I wish we had front loaded ours now so we knew we had done everything! We we are heading to Melbourne ! I really want to get booking flights and some short term accommodation but the wait continues! I know once I get that visa I will be in a mad rush to sort all the last bits out! X
  11. Wow congratulations!! We lodged 24th June and just waiting for our police checks to come back then hopefully it won't be much longer a wait!!! Where re are you moving to? X
  12. No, we did our Medicals on the 8th August but have only just done the police checks today. They did advise not to do Medicals until a case officer had been assigned as it is only valid for a year, but we knew we were wanting to be out there by Nov. xx
  13. Hi! It took us 8 weeks to be assigned a case officer! Submitted our 189 visa on the 24th June and got our case officer through Tuesday this week! We were told generally 6-8 weeks x
  14. Hi All. We we had our case officer assigned this morning, happy days! Just the police checks to get sorted now We lodged our visa on the 24th June. Very exciting!! X
  15. Well done Kymm! You must be over the moon. We are too hoping to be out early November but haven't had the visa yet. We submitted on the 24th June! When did you submit? Had our Medicals last weekend and now just starting to organise police checks! Fingers crossed we are sorted soon! X
  16. Hi! You should try and find a free seminar for emigrating near where you live. That's what we did with The Emigration Group in Chester and they give you a free visa assessment and offer advice!
  17. Morning All, Anymore updates from anyone? We lodged on the 24th June, and have our medicals booked for the 8th August! Still awaiting a CO to be assigned, we were told 6-8 weeks for that to be picked up. 5 weeks in and counting! Dying to book flights etc, we are aiming to be out in Melbourne for the beginning of November
  18. Nope, a 189 visa. This is what I was told: 'No, visas can be granted on any day. There is an allocation for the visa year, but this is not split monthly.'
  19. I have been told by my emigration agent you can be selected for a visa on any day, there aren't specific dates you can get selected.....
  20. Ah I see thought yours was a PR visa! Yes mine is. Good luck! X
  21. Congratulations! When did you sumit your visa application? mine was the 24th June, nearly 5 weeks in now.......waiting to be assigned CO so we can do medicals and police checks. Hoping to be out there the 1st week of November!! X
  22. Hi! We were told by our emigration visa agent it is currently taking around 3 months for a skilled independent visa so I'm not holding out to hear anything until the end of September! If it comes through earlier then great!! X
  23. Congratulations! I have seen a few of your posts, wish you all the luck! We we submitted our 189 visa 24th June and our aim is to be in Aus the first week of November. I am constantly doubting it will still happen even at this stage of the process! Best of luck xx
  24. Hi Bungo, the quarantine laws changed so they are only in for 10 days but no interaction is allowed, no walks, treats, no visits, nothing. Think this is the hardest thing for me as with any dog, especially a border collie, who loves 3 walks a day!!
  25. Thank you for your reply! I know what you mean about focusing on the end result and I know when he see's us for the first time again he will be very excited. It's just the thought of him being with strangers and in that crate and also in quarantine where he isn't allowed walks, treats or toys for 10 days :-( did is you use PetAir? Sarah x
