  1. Hey no it doesn't have to be Perth we just know the area very well from living here previously never lived on eastern side apart from a quick visit. Think we will narrow things down when we are at the point of applying for jobs. Sydney children's hospital looks very good and has lots to offer but heard housing is very expensive.
  2. Hoping that's the case will keep my fingers crossed. Got a lovely migration agent who is helping us who was prev a nurse and knows so much about the process.
  3. Hi guys just wondering how you chose a school for your children? Done a bit of research but can't really make a head or tail of the websites. You seem to have to know the name of the primary school before you can do a search on its stats. It's so difficult. And also did you have a school in place prior to making the move. We have a 8 year old about to go into UK class 4. And a 18 month old who will prob go to kindergarten by the time we get over there. My little girl goes to a very small catholic school over here which has about 300 pupils in the school. It's the only Catholic school in our area so that narrowed things down for us. But the SOR is so vast I'm not sure how we would ever narrow it down. I'm hoping for a job at the new children's hospital in nedlands and hubby is a builder so could go to various areas. When we were last in Perth me n hubby didn't have children but lived in the Cockburn, congee and Munster area. But when we lived there didn't pay attention to anything child related lol. Any advice ice would be great, I know everyone wants different things for schooling. We just want her to be settled and do her best in school in a school that's supportive and doing ok with league tables.
  4. Im currently finishing the degree top up as I had the advanced diploma. Will have 5-6 years experience when we come over. Was going to start the process a year ago but the changed the specs to register with APHRA. Plus wanted pr visa not 457
  5. Thanks for your opinions. We are only at the very beginning of applying for visas so have a long road ahead of us, I have to do IELTs and anmac skills and various other things first so we are probably looking at 12-18 months so hopefully will have a better picture nearer the time. We have no family but a few friends there already. I think this website will be invaluable to us.
  6. hey I'm a children's nurse so hoping il be able to secure work in the new children's hospital as most of my experience is in the children's emergency department in th UK. My hubby is a jack of all trades got experience as a landscape gardener, ground worker, labourer, has tickets for dumper, telehandler, bobcat, forklift and digger. When we were previously in free he had a job as a gravedigger (bit grim I know but someone has to do it) hoping he will find something that he likes, he's flexible and a hard worker never having a sick day in the 14 years we've been together. Just needs permanent work to be eligible for a mortgage as font want to rent for years and years. Everything happens for a reason so we will keep saving and saving then hopefully like people have said we will have a bit of a buffer.
  7. Hi so after many years we have got the ball rolling on emigrating! But seen a few posts on various sites and facebook etc with people saying if they had known what they know now they would of stayed in the uk and that its hard to get on housing market etc in perth and economy is bad. Can anyone shed any light as it has me a bit worried. Not got a house or.mortgage but was one thing we wanted to do if we moved to oz as we are a young family. Any advice guys?! X
  8. were you able to get a car on finance? looking into whether would be cheaper to buy new or used. will be on 189 visa! coming over with about $100,000 but ideally wanting to use a lot of that on a house deposit further down the road once settled and weve found a suburb we like.
  9. bungo did you rent at first? we would like to get a mortgage when we get our visas and both have secured permanent jobs as we are only 30 and 35 so plenty of time to pay off home yet. but we will have to rent first to find an area that fits in with our daughters school once we decide where she is going.
  10. looking to bring £50000 but will be on 189 visa and hopefully of secured employment at a hospital for me. do you think this is enough until we get settled?
  11. Just a bit of a nosey question but wondering how much money people came to Australia with when they emigrated. We don't have a house to sell but will be bringing money to live comfortably for 6 months. But wondered how much other people came with?!
  12. Thank you that's helpful but yes I think if we save so we've got 3-6 months in case hubby doesn't get a job and enough for rental upfront as that will ease us into Aussie life. Then we can be saving for a deposit on a house when pr visa comes through x
  13. Hi I know this is off topic and I will ask in the nursing sub section but is it possible to apply for permanent residency visa straight off? thanks
  14. Hi sorry can't give you much advice regarding the housing situation but just wondered how much has it cost to do the bridging course? I'm undecided whether to do the top up degree over here. What visa did you guys get? Sorry to bombard your thread
  15. Hi guys I am new to this forum me and hubby have decided to take the plunge and emigrate. We have previously lived in Perth in 2003-2005 but as I imagine the economy etc will of changed quite a bit. We are currently renting in the UK so we aren't held up when visas etc get approved. I am a paediatric nurse with a sponsored visa ready to be applied for. Hubby is a builder and ground worker. What I'm wanting to know is do you have to have permanent residency to be able to get a mortgage? How much realistically would we need to put down a deposit on a house? Can be 25% in the UK with some banks. Also what is the average house price we are ideally looking at Leda or south of the river in WA? Any advice would be welcome. I understand we may have to rent at first but trying to have plans in place so the transition is a smooth as possible with an 8 year old and a 18 month old in tow. thanks in advance Lou x
