  1. I have a quick question. Is there a difference in processing time for coming from a HR to a LR country? lots of the people I've seen through this thread seem to be from HR countries, very little information on LR. For some reason I've been led to believe there is a slightly different processing time?
  2. You won't need any luck, by the sounds of it you have determination and that's all you need to go out there. Go for it!
  3. I will be arriving in Perth in about 10 hours, currently sitting in HK airport. Quite looking forward to getting Things started, I just won't know what to do at 6am! l guess coffee might be My friend tomorrow. l f anyone fancies meeting up in Perth in the near future just send a message!
  4. That sounds almost the exact same plan/routine I'll be following when I land on Friday. I had intended to also go Optus for the social network free data as that is by far the easiest way to keep in contact with loads of people at the same time. How was your first night?
  5. I will actually be flying out to Perth next week (I seriously can't believe how quickly that has come round!). Part of my plan is to look for regional work in WA before basing around Perth, although I'm aware it's the time of year when there really isn't much around there. Hopefully though I can get some top tips to share when I'm there.
  6. The visa starts the moment you step into the country, not the date you filled in to say when you might arrive. However once the clock starts on the visa there's no way to stop it. It's not a dumb question though, I wondered the same thing and I just trawled the internet before finding my answer. (Then realised it specifies this on my visa confirmation email.. doh!)
  7. I don't remember there being any medical checks when I filled out mine. However there might be a section around health - I honestly can't remember since I wouldn't have put anything in that field. If you're of good health and good character there's no reason why you wouldn't get the visa afaik.
  8. I'm sure it's the same cost across the board, A$420. Which cost around £220 I think from the exchange rate.
  9. I've not come across that Hostel on my searches, however now I have and the reviews look excellent. I'm staying in the Old Swan Barracks for the first week but it seems mixed on the reviews. I'll be able to add that to my small list of alternatives. I've got my fingers crossed for you and myself that finding a job won't take too long!
  10. I actually forgot about doing the RSA online (I'd read it elsewhere too), I'll look into doing it on one of the lull days before I leave. I guess it's one less thing to worry about. I know that I'm booked into a hostel in the city for the first week, although looking at the weather for the winter down there it's still better than how we're faring in London with summer at the minute. So I guess that I'm 'acclimatising'. I know I'm high jacking the thread too but it's nice to see that it's not just swarms of 20/21's going out there. At 29 now I need to do it now or never again, just hoping that I can work it well enough and get hold of the 2nd year visa
  11. I'm also advising a rucksack, far easier to move around between places. If you can try and get one which has a mini day sack attached to it so that when you're staying in one place for a while you've now got a little rucksack for those day to day bits you carry around.
  12. Quite interesting, I'm arriving into Perth on the 19th June with kind of the same plan. I'm going to try and get the regional work done as early on as I can. Which hostel are you staying in for the first week?
  13. Good to know I just need to ring up when I arrive for my TFN! That means it's only that and Medicare waiting to be sorted when I arrive.
  14. It is actually quite reassuring to know there are others who are leaving stable careers behind for what can seem to people like a jolly jaunt. I was absolutely petrified for months about leaving my job to go to Australia, and once I did it it felt like a large weight had been lifted off of my shoulders. Am I looking forward to it though? Hell yes!
  15. Quite reassuring to know Perth's the place to be for jobs, I'm arriving on the 20th June!!! Time, cannot come quick enough
