  1. Hi guys I need to renew my British passport here as it is expiring soon. 6 months ago I received my Aussie passport , so I'm dual national now! It says that for Dual nationals renewing your British passport that you must send a colour photocopy of your other passport, so I presumed its a colour copy of the main page with details, photo, etc. Also read that every page must be sent , even blank pages! So do I have to print of all 48pages of my Aussie passport, even though I haven't used it yet!? Seems a lot to ask for!
  2. Hi guys Ive a friend who has been on a 489 visa now for 6 months, however he is keen to get his PR. He has got the right amount of points for a 189/190 visa now. So the question is can you jump after 6 months from 489 to 189? I know it wil be a new application and another few thousand dollars however he is willing to do it. Brian

  4. How long rougly does it take from when you apply online for citizenship till you are givin a date to so the test? ( stonington council)
  5. Hi folks Do you need to tell the immi of a change of address after you get PR?
  6. I would go down the chippy route once you get here, a lot more work for them. Have you been to oz before and seen how they build high rise building? Its all pumped concrete for each floor, loads of form workers needed and usually chippys take them jobs. With tiling the market is flooded with cheap labour from overseas.
  7. Where are you hoping to move to? Brits coming over and plumbing has been a nightmare from the start for all of them. I'm not being negative just realistic. We got sold a story 6/7 years ago that Oz needs all these plumbers and you'll easily get a job. We all arrived and told no one can plumb till they have their licences. Some states are harder than others to get the license and can take near a year to get it. I done a 10 week full time time course to get mine, luckily I had a company that paid for me and gave me a wage as I studied. Good money can be made in remote places, I was on $60hr in Darwin workin for a company. Most big cities are $30mark. If you have the back up funds then go for it, as the first year will be tough.
  8. When I went back to the UK last year for a visit , a friend was telling me how he paid £12,000 to immigrate out to Oz as a plumber , with his wife and two kids. He thought he could start up his own plumbing business straight away. I told him its not like that , you could take 2 years to get your cert 4 in licensing and it's a lot of hard work. Average wage working for a plumbing company is $25 to $35, divide that by 2 into Stirling and its not much. Ya earn in UK now and cost of UK is cheaper. Found out a couple of months ago, the guy and his family returned to UK, no one would take him on as he had no Oz experience and any job offers he had was like $19 a hr. All that money down the drain for nothing .
  9. A 187 is a regional company sponsored visa. You will have to have a company that will sponsor you for that visa before you leave the UK, and that is a non starter as the company has never seen you work. A lot of guys on working holiday visas here in Oz go onto them visas. It's unheard of from gettin that visa straight from the UK. Your best option is to apply for a 190 state sponsor ship visa which will get you PR from the UK. Some states have taken plumbers from their list like Victoria, WA and QLD as they are not needed there. SA, NT and NSW still have it on the list. Another option is a 489 visa, it's a regional state visa, you stay in that state for two years and then you apply for PR. Your best bet is to go for a 190 visa for NSW, because I know NT and SA will only give you a 489 visa as they want people living in their state before they hand out 190 PR visas.
  10. Once you have your skills assessment and when you arrive in Oz, you're best going to the plumbing board in either Perth or Canberra and asking for it to be turned into a cert 3 in plumbing and draining licence. You would have more of a chance with the Canberra office to be honest as Perth office will want to know who you work for etc. I take it you are coming here with no working rights and trying to find a sponsor? Perth is sooo fussy on having that ticket and a lot of companies will turn a blind eye to you. South Australia is dead for work bar a hospital getting built in Adalaide. Victoria I wouldn't getting look at it as it mainly all Union , he ozzies can't get on them jobs. Sydney is booming and plenty of work there, I always get emails from companies willing to sponsor boys. QLD there is a bit of work but nothing long term. Darwin in NT is booming, loads of jobs in construction , easy to get sponsored as a plumber and wages can be pretty good. Ive been plumbing in Oz now for 4 years ( originally from Belfast ), done all the bulls **** exams here, got sponsored and PR. it's a marathon alright! If ya need any advice just hit us up
  11. What all gets asked in the interview? Thanks for the quick reply
  12. When it comes to Citizenship interview, is that a one on one chat with someone from immi or is it another way of saying its the citizenship test?
  13. Thnks for the reply very stormy. By the way, do you think it will be a big issue that i moved states for 6months, due to no work in the sponsoring state?
  14. Hi folks Ive in oz now for 4 years, in which 18 of them months as PR on a 190 visa. Can i go for citizenship now or do i have to wait till the 2 years is complete with the sponsoring state. Regards Brian
  15. I knew a guy who quit his job after 2 weeks of being granted a 187, his work phoned immigration and told them. 6 months later he got his PR stripped and told to leave within 28 days. Its all down to your work, if they dont tell immigration then you're fine, if they do then you may be doing the walk of shame.
  16. Even though it says " conditions - nil" on my 190 PR visa? Im surprised it doesnt say on the conditions that you must stay in that state for at least 2 years, but then again for 186 visas it doesnt say anything about staying with that employer for 2 years but that is the moral oblingation with the 186 visa.
  17. Thanks Ozmaniac for the quick reply. So when i apply for citzenship in another state, i,ll be 14 months into my two year moral obligation and they will be cool with it. So i,ll be able to do the citzenship test and ceremony in WA then?
  18. Hey folks Has anybody applied for citzenship in another state than the one that their visa was granted by , and before the 2 year moral obligation of staying in that state? I was granted a 190 visa ( vic ) back in March 2014, but moved to WA in November as i lost my job in vic, couldnt get a another one and only option was to take one in WA. Next month i,ll have done 4 years straight in oz and i,ll be over the 1 year minimum requirement for PR. Any advice out there would be great. Brian
  19. Yeah on a 457 visa which expires in 3 weeks
  20. Hi Folks, i applied for a 189 visa on the 2 nd Jan, but I have not received an email about a bridging visa? The application was submitted successfully according to the ImmI login web site. I thought I would of received one within a few days, tried calling immi hotline but after 15mins the phone goes dead ( pulling the hair out moment)!
  21. Yeah that's what I thought. I'll double check with immigration Thanks for your help
  22. Yeah still working for the employer that sponsors me on the 457. I know if I apply for the visa I need a bridging visa B but seeing a just have the invitation do I need a bridging visa B.
  23. Hey folks Ive been given an invitation to apply for a 190 visa ( happy days ) recently . Im currently in Sydney on a 457 visa and that doesnt expire till mid next year.
