Just to ditto everyone else, especially Chortlepuss....tenants in Australia are second class citizens. We had a similar situation with a dishwasher; took the agent and owner one month and a half total to get a repair person around, report back that the dishwasher was carked, and have the damn thing replaced. It would have been longer, I am sure, but at the month point I called the agent and went all Yank on her, and it was finally replaced. If I had done that to my tenants who were renting out my home in California, I would have been in court in hurry, no doubt about it. Certainly, a dishwasher is not as critical as an oven, but you get my drift. We may return to Australia at some point in a couple years, but I will never be a renter there again. Cheers!!!

This, from 'Part 9 - After you apply for your visa', from the July 2015 Partner Migration Booklet: The date is usually tied to theearliest date of the validity periods of any health and character checks you had as part of the process ofapplying for a partner category visa. The key term here, is ''usually." With my spouse's outcome in mind (date of grant), it would appear that the validity date(s) are somewhat arbitrary, and dependent on which side of the bed your case agent fell over on !!

I just dug out my spouse's original 100 PR visa, and her 155 RRV. Both were from 'date of grant'. That being said, I agree with Nemesis that you should check out your situation, based on the type (subclass) of visa you have. With the Australian government changing laws, like I change my underwear, nothing is cast in concrete for very long....

Typically it would be from grant date. The grant letter from DIBP would spell that out clearly, and it would be indicated on the visa page in the passport, if one is present. This is dependent on the class of visa issued.

I can recommend Alan Collett of Go Matilda, http://www.gmvisas.com, who is also a PIO member and contributor. Alan helped me with a US/Aus tax issue, introducing me to a chartered accountant in Melbourne who specialized in US/Aus taxation. I did all the immigration paperwork myself, so I did not need Alan's services for that piece. His quick, personal response to my issue is why I recommend him. He answered my query straight away, after I had not heard back from a number of other tax firms. Other people here on PIO will vouch for Alan. Best of luck to you!!!

I'm with NSP; at Hyde Park, around St. James station. usually a lot going on, food, pomp, etc........however, if you want to be really fair dinkum you might head off to Dan Murphys or 1st choice, hoist a slab or two of VB stubbies on your shoulders, head to your fave beach, get pissed and go for a surf (not necessarily in that order!!!), head to your mates house for a barbie and watch (or play) the cricket.....anyway, that's what I would do......:smile:

As lebourvellac indicated, you should have no problem getting a PR for your husband. You will be applying for a 309/100 visa. I would think with your situation, you would be granted a 100 at the outset. I did this for my wife back in 2007, and although time consuming and cumbersome, she was granted with no problems. PM me if you want to and I can lead you through it.

My PR spouse, visa sub class 100, arrived one month after me (US/Aus citizen), so the answer was (in 2008) no.....May have changed seven years later, but I wouldn't think so; easy to check on website or ring up DIBP...

Paul, I did the same as you on a few of the bank websites, and was taken aback by the huge figure. While on a visit to Sydney last year, I stopped into a Westpac in Sydney, and was told I could borrow substantially less. This due to having a home in the U.S., that although would be rented out with $4000AUD net income per month, the bank claimed that this 'income' would not be counted, as there is no guarantee it would be rented on a continuous basis. Aussie pretzel logic boggles the mind sometime. Anyway, I visited an office of Aussie Home Loans in suburban Sydney, and spoke with a Brit expat who confirmed the Australian way of thinking, but came up with an amount I could borrow that made actual sense. My advice, run your figures by a broker and see what they come up with. Mortgage House is another firm that I have heard of, but there are many others. Good luck, mate!!

Shak, roaches, the Huntsman, and the redback are small potatoes compared to the mother of all arachnids, the Sydney Funnel Web spider. We were in St. Ives, north of Sydney and never saw one, thank God, but we made it a point to shake our shoes out in the morning just in case, having heard stories. We had pommie friends living in Terrigal on the Central Coast who had quite a few Funnel Web stories, fortunately none deadly......keep an eye out, mate!!......

Alan and I emailed each other back and forth in 2007, regarding a question I had about finding an accountant who handled tax returns in Australia for U.S. expats. He hooked me up with a firm in Melbourne, who assigned an agent to me. As far as taxes go, it was a great experience, and Alan facilitated the whole thing. Recommend without hesitation.

iCloud backup if you did that, or go to iTunes/Preferences, select Device icon and hopefully your backup is there. If not, you will need to be friends with the computer forensic investigator at the local police station, who can extract the data with special software.

I have been a Westpac customer since 2007, whilst in and out of Australia, and have found them to be flawless in every aspect. Easy to setup an account from overseas, prompt and efficient phone and email response to queries, pleasant and competent in-branch service, low or no fees depending on type of account, you name it. Granted, I don't have experience with any of the other banks, but why would I switch??
