  1. Australia isn't for everyone but its great if you love it and it adds value to your life. Makes all the moving and worrying and upset worthwhile. Great to hear you are loving it - what is it you love compared to your old life in UK?
  2. Why is it shocking and scary? So far it seems everyone is under the impression this couple weren't treated any different to anyone else and it's likely they didn't meet the visa requirements. That is no different to the thousands of applicants each year and the millions before them. If someone doesn't meet the criteria they don't get in. It doesn't so far seem to be anything other than this so it's actually not scary but common sense surely?
  3. Fingers crossed for you - no one deserves to be ripped off so I hope it all works out - keep us posted whatever happens
  4. These visa's are notorious for being quick as the whole idea is to fill a job no local is qualified to do which means the job needs to be filled quick. Sorry to say I agree with the others this looks dodgy especially as you've paid $2k for it. If you've used an unregistered agent as opposed to a MARA agent you won't have a leg to stand on and sorry to say there's a shed load of unscrupulous people doing this kind of thing. Like others have said, get in touch with the employer. If they are keen for you to start they won't mind you asking.
  5. My OH calls them kiddie cops - says the news is all about koala's being fined for jay walking:biglaugh:
  6. Exactly. Whilst I'm not clear why they were turned down the appeal process would have been followed therefore like you and others have said, I suspect they didn't meet the criteria in which case that's tough, and no different from any other couples. I guess we will see how it pans out. As long as they've been treated like everyone else then they need to follow the same criteria.
  7. Something not quite right here. Gay couples have the same rights as heterosexual couples therefore it probably means they did not meet the criteria. I hope this is the case otherwise if they have been singled out I hope they take it to the high court.
  8. Revenue earner. The police are being down right d*ckheads at the moment trying to earn extra revenue for all sorts of stuff - it's not endearing anyone to the police force that's for sure. It's what you get when there are idiot pollys elected into government <thumbdown>
  9. I don't live in a little world thanks. Great that you've never had time off, that's your experience just like some of us have had a different experience of the work place. Doesn't make anyone wrong, just difference of opinion. And your aggressive behaviour is exactly the sort of thing we mean. Maybe you live in your own little world and can't accept a difference of opinion. You probably work at the type of place we mean where people are always aggressive when they disagree and they seem to work harder not smarter due to mismanagement.
  10. Thanks - yeh apparently it turned up at 2am while I was in bed we live on an island it couldn't go anywhere I got up at daylight the following morning to go on patrol in the car and noticed the oldies had it in bed with them, Fluffy handbag dog and my parents slept in while me and the OH were wide awake by then
  11. well it started off good.....then went all downhill from there... Woke up Xmas morning bright as a button having been to a beach party the night before. Was amazed I wasn't hung over, put all the corny Xmas songs on full blast and started cooking. Decided this year to make steak, king prawns, salad and cheesy spuds for a change ......easy peasy....poured me a few drinks to help with the cooking skills like you do.... We invited elderly parents so they stayed overnight. They brought the fluffy white handbag dog which is frightened of it's own shadow - with all the excitement of xmas it decided to escape and run away :arghh: So the oldies were fretting, kept wittering on it would be eaten by a snake, or bitten by a spider or not find its way home in the dark ( more like I would kill the bleedin thing when it came home for spoiling everyone's Xmas). Then to cap off the evening the half pished father decided to walk around looking for fluffy handbag dog in bare feet and he got blisters the size of dustbin lids  So there we were, sober as a judge, no drinking, no appetite to eat, two depressed parents minus one fluffy handbag dog and the old man with feet like balloons. And one MAJORLY pissed off OH for once again having his Xmas ruined by my delinquent deranged family with the fluffy handbag dog:mad: You couldn't make this crap up - it was just like the Royle family.....but worse..... Thanks for asking:ssign8:
  12. Don't underestimate the cold here Vs UK. I remember ringing family in UK and I was frozen stiff at 11 degrees in winter that's because the temp diff between summer and winter is so great you feel it more even though the temp isn't that cold by comparison. My UK family pissed their pants laughing as I was sat with fleecy jim jams, socks, hat, water bottle and blanket at night. Daytime in Qld is beauty, night time and early morning in winter is coooooooold.....brrrrr..... G' nite mate.
  13. absolutely spot on re observations on work ethic here. Agree 100%
  14. It is very cold in Adelaide in winter - Aussie houses in general are built for the summer months not winter and Adelaide can get preeeety cold. Adelaide IMO is quaint - not big which makes it friendly and quaint and quirky IMV - love it. I'm sure you'll love it!
  15. Agree. I also find it strange that the previously oppressed feel it is now their responsibility to oppress those who in the largest majority have ruled out the oppression. It seems it is their intent to make this kinder, more caring and self aware generation pay for the sins of their ignorant white forefathers. Ironic that innit.....
  16. SA is a great part of Aus - would have been my second choice to live. City of churches they call it - tis lovely in summer bloody cold in winter
  17. No problem - you could always move back to England :biglaugh:
  18. Just because someone does something doesn't make it worth it? That's why I take all the emotion out of it and look at the cost vs benefits. Some people believe everything the salesman tells them - I want to be proven wrong so I can get the soddin things put in:cool:
  19. Exactly. Everyone who gets solar put in thinks once it's in that's it. Sit back and watch the energy roll in and costs of bills evaporate - but so far everyone I know who has had it and who claims this to be the case, when I start to ask questions they get embarrassed as it's "early days yet" and the facts don't seem to stack up even though the emotional excitement is there. I then feel crap because I'm peeing on their bonfire when all I want is for it to be beneficial so I can see the benefits and put it in. I really want to go for it - but only when I can see factually that it's a great saving. I'm a risk taker but I'm also tight with me money:skeptical::arghh:
  20. But warranties are only as good as the company - it's not unusual for companies to go bust and the warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on. Are you saying a good quality system will last 20 years with no additional costs anticipated? I'm not being awkward mate I just think people are under the impression you buy a system and once it's installed there are no other maintenance issues or upkeep required and that all companies warranties are kosha. I've lived here long enough to see more companies go bust than I can shake a stick at and shonky equipment that needs upkeep and then there are buy back schemes that promise the world and don't deliver because the power companies decide to reduce the payback amount. I'm not saying solar panels are crap or the schemes won't work - I'm just saying so far I've not been able to look at any facts and see a proper payback and to be honest I would love to be wrong as there's nothing I'd love more than reduce these massive power bills. Like a previous poster says, so far the facts just demonstrate builders bling. I won't give up though as I would seriously like to get a result to be able to buy something that reduces the bills which are mental over here. Thanks for your patience re this mate. I appreciate the feedback.
  21. Will it last that long? What about repairs or replacement costs?
  22. How do you fancy living in Sydney Pablo?:biglaugh:
