  1. I lodged my application from the United States with a US bank card, I too was charged a fee. Most financial institutions shall charge a foreign transaction fee unless you have a credit card that doesn't. When I worked for Bank of America, they only had 2 credit cards that didn't charge: Platinum Visa & American Airlines Visa. It's the norm now a days I'm afraid.
  2. Good news as of today. I am employed. Suddenly on Friday I started getting callbacks and have been offered a position with a company in Brisbane CBD, I start tomorrow. Thank you for the kind words and help. XO
  3. Just wanted to give you some :wubclub: love. Good luck on the trip & when you get home. XxX
  4. Thanks for the advice George. As far as the spouse visa goes, I definitely would not be able to apply as of yet. My fiance & I did not meet in the "conventional" way so to speak, we actually met online. For 15 months we were in contact all day, everyday via Skype then I finally came to Australia. I've been told by other Aussies that it's a modern day love story. Lol. We hit if off when we actually did meet in person, it was amazing...we continued in person where we left off online. So, as far as the defacto relationship goes...we didn't actually start living together until 10 August of this year. I've been told about this registering of a relationship, I wonder if that's a possibility. As far as the job search goes, I'm going to keep trying. I had mentioned on only a few applications that I had a WHV, however on others I had not. In the last few days I've put in over 60 applications and had half of them knocked back. I suppose I shouldn't complain yet, I haven't heard back from the rest I put through. I just don't want an employer look at my resume and think: "Oh wow, she's been all over...she's a flight risk" because that's not the case. I think I shall call possibly a temp agency and see what we can come up with.
  5. Hi everyone, I'm new to PIO and Australia. I've been in Brisbane since 10 August 2013 and love it, however the job search isn't going as expected. I'm not sure if it's because of my visa type (sub class 417), type of work I'm seeking (office/admin), my employment experience, or just my imagination (lol). My story is interesting. I just turned 29 in July & have been in a relationship with an Aussie for just over 16 months. The kicker is: I lived 24 of my 29 years of life in America & ALL of my work experience was in the states. Unfortunately, most of my positions I held were anywhere from 10 months - 2 years spanning back to the age of 15. Currently I'm on a working holiday visa, however my fiance & I plan to marry April 2014. Once that is complete, we plan to lodge a spousal visa application. None of this worries me. What does worry me is the fact that I'm a British citizen that grew up in America, with short lived work experience. I've applied for many clerical/office positions (temp only due to my visa status) and I'm getting knock-back emails. Does anybody have any advice or pointers? I'd really love the help... Thanks!
  6. I moved here almost four weeks ago to be with my Aussie fiance and am having no such luck with jobs. Perhaps it is due to living in the states most of my life...not sure.
