  1. For those of us registered and planning to vote in the independence vote when should we receive our ballot papers?
  2. Because for 11 years she's not bothered to register and hence not voted, in a country where it's a requirement to vote. The question has already been answered no need for your shitty reply thanks.
  3. Thanks for that I did google it but obviously I didn't look hard enough. I'm a firm believer that everyone needs to at least go and put a spoiled ballot in a box if nothing else. She's got no excuse not to register now.
  4. My wife is an Ozzie born citizen and has lived all her life here. She's 29 and never registered to vote and thus never voted or been fined for not voting as she wasn't registered. What happens if she registers now? Does she get hit with 11 years of fines or is there some kind of ammesty as that prospect is hardly going to encourage anyone to register of their own free will is it? Also when will I get a vote PR or Citizenship?
  5. Still a little shocked I got my 820 only 8 days after they received the application and just wondered what other people's experiences had been.
  6. I recently go married to my Australian wife on a 300 subclass visa. Applied this week for an 820 and have since been put on a. Bridging visa A class WA. In the conditions it states I can't renter the country on that visa. My wife and I were planning on a delayed honeymoon as she is a new grad nurse and I had just started a new job here. What are the chances of us being granted a bridging visa that will allow me to return as I reading online it seems unlikely. In the grand scheme of things it's not a massive hardship just were not sure when we would be able to get three weeks off together again. Luckily we haven't booked anything yet although I did start looking an hour before the bridging grant came through. We both met travelling and have had a trip planned in our heads for some time and this was going to be our last big trip before we settle down so it does mean a lot to us both.
  7. Not likely considering I've only lived in Australia for 6 months and haven't been to a Dr in that time lol.
  8. Read a few conflicting things as to whether a policeman can do it or not. This is while applying for a visa in Australia not the UK.
  9. Hi when I applied for my 300 subclass visa I was able to print a checklist out from the department of immigration which I used in my application as a contents page and was able to reference different pieces of evidence to it and it also helped make sure I didn't miss anything from my application. Now moving on for the 820 visa and can't find anything of the sort. Has anyone seen any such thing?
  10. Living with the in laws in SW Sydney and we're hoping from a selfish point of view this comes true, we will be in a good position to take advantage as the prices being asked out here even in places like Cabramatta are ludicrous.
  11. Got told not to come in tomorrow as I kind of expected. Trying not to honour the notice despite it being in black and white on the first page of the contract. They have an external company who is going to call me tomorrow after arguing with the national manager on the phone.
  12. You've obviously had some decent employers if you don't believe that goes on.
  13. When you give notice in Australia (NSW specifically) are you covered in the same way as the UK. But that I mean once you hand over that piece of paper saying you give notice they cant just kick you out on your arse and your left not getting paid for a few weeks.
  14. I haven't visited Australia and then decided to stay though? Thats not my situation at all. I was granted a visa to essentially move here with full work rights under the idea I would marry an Australian within 9 months. I understand that they do have that wish with other visas but I don't think it applies in this case.
  15. Ok thanks for the replies. I guess its not a huge deal the only time I plan on leaving the country in the next year is on our honeymoon some time next year. Just trying to clear up in my mind what the route is for further visas 300 subclass 9 months Bridging Visa 820 visa 2 years (is this 2 years from application or grant?) 801 visa once I have this and have been in oz 4 years can apply for citizenship?
  16. Times have changed politicians need to change with them. They are scrutinised in ways they never were in the past. Im not saying Abbott got everything right but simply changing the prime minister every 12 months doesn't help anyone really.
  17. To be fair you make it sound like its Abbotts fault, parties shouldn't let the press force them in to making these changes.
  18. As a Tory I think his appointment is brilliant. He just loves being the centre of attention won't sing god save the Queen at a battle of Britain commemoration but has sworn his allegiance to the queen to take his seat in the commons. Now I do understand he is a Republican and he is free to be one but it does look slightly hypocritical and in bad taste.
  19. Hi I haven't been on here for a while but I've been in country since May settled in now with a job and enjoying living in the same country as my fiancé. We get married in about 2 weeks over the long weekend so looking forward to that. Now I am trying to get a head start in gathering evidence etc for my next visa, I was under the impression I would be applying for a 309 visa but that says I need to be outside Australia when I apply then looked at the the 820 visa but that says it takes a year to process. My 300 subclass visa expires in December so whilst I'm not worried I would be deported I am confused about exactly what I should be applying for and would really appreciate some guidance.
  20. Its a farce that a country can have a revolving door policy like this, its worse than the premier league.
  21. They wouldn't even let us in the EU. Done little but whinge and oh free Europe from Nazi tyrany.....
  22. Religious schools should be scrapped they create a divided even if they do admit non Muslims, Catholics, scientologists, etc
  23. Sorry I forgot for a brief second we invented everything of worth I have watched super league previously and my attitude was it was ok and I would watch it over union all day long but I find the standard here so much higher. I just cant get my head around AFL although being in Sydney and not having Fox you dont see that much of it.
  24. So after 3 months in country I have got well in to rugby league, what a brilliant sport. I was from the right region of England originally and did have exposure to the sport as a kid but was never that bothered by it. Anyway I was a massive football fan back home and thought I would be getting a season ticket for Sydney FC next season but I will most certainly be getting one for the Rabbitohs instead. Has anyone else taken to an ozzie sport as quick as this? Im still a Newcastle fan and will be getting up at daft times to watch them but I never got as much enjoyment out of watching game s have no vested interest in like I do in the NRL. If it was Burnley v QPR on the TV I wouldn't dream of watching it but if it was Sharks v Raiders I probably would.
  25. Tony Abbott won't loose the next election, the only people who could shift him in the next few years are his own party. Labour here seem no more capable of putting together an electable manifesto than Labour do in the UK. The left is appealing too much to tree hugging vegan, pacifists than it is its traditional working man down the pub electorate.
