  1. I have to say our last three house moves took 15 months or so, but we were hoping the market had picked up. We live in the South East, but I expect each area is different. Cheeky question, you might not wish to answer it!! When are you expecting to get your visa Freesia? Can't locate you on the Chireckles site, which doesn't seem to have moved again for a while. Perhaps DIAC do things in batches?! Poor you Maureen. Regards Carolyn
  2. Hi Freesia, thanks, yes we will stay optimistic. Next dilemma - when to put our house on the market? Probably have to wait for the prices to zoom up!! C.
  3. I was giving the worst case scenario I think. However, your news has cheered us up. We have to do police checks "10 months from June 2013 and the meds. 12 months" from then as well. I have to say I was thinking Sept. 2014 for grant of visa, with a bit of luck. Thanks for your help. C.
  4. Hello Richard300. We have gone for the CPV143 visa, which is the expensive one, but we should be granted it in 18-24 months ( we are hoping for it a bit earlier, being eternal optimists!!). We then get perm res immediately. The cheaper visa has a very long wait, probably 12-15 years. We were not happy to be in 'no man's land' and sort of non-people whilst we waited. Then as previously stated, there is another medical just before the grant, which could be tricky. However, we are a lot older than your MIL, and thought we might not be around to to get the visa!! regards, C
  5. What a relief for you Learjet. Will use your time line for us, similar dates but a year later. So in theory this time next year for us!? Yes, I agree these threads are very helpful, even if I do ask daft questions sometimes. All the best to you all. C
  6. We opened an ANZ account here in the UK. Chose it as family were already with them. Very easy to open it here. We went into a branch when we arrived in Perth, all our cards were waiting for us. We get free banking due to our advanced years!! However, don't really know how good they are, as only limited experience of them so far.
  7. Veronique, congratulations, you are now on the list. Thank goodness DIAC didn't take the time they originally said to find your application. So only a few days behind me now, just waiting for Tabitha to come on the listing with us. Are you still ploughing on with Form 80? carolyn x
  8. Hi Steve, seems to have stopped at me then on August 27th when I put on my acknowledgement date. No changes so far as I have seen. Very interesting site. Carolyn
  9. Thanks Rowley That puts my mind at rest. Have just waded through both of our employment records and what we have done since retiring. (Typically I had thrown away my CV as I didn't think I would ever need it again!). Details of where we had travelled to we less difficult to access. Hope all is going well for you. Carolyn
  10. Hello everyone again. Having now had a look at the paperwork, I think it a good idea to tell you what it actually said. Yes the dreaded form 80 is to be done as soon as poss. How on earth do you answer 37, that asks for proposed arrival date in Aus with the time frame being so far ahead, any ideas? Police Clearance - "commence 10 months from 11 June 2013. RETAIN until requested by your case officer". Permanent Residence Health Assessment - "commence 12 months from 11 June 2013". RETAIN etc. AOS same as above - 12 months etc all the best, Carolyn
  11. Hello everyone who is waiting their acknowledgement. Today my daughter in Perth rang to say that she has received hard copies from DIAC with OUR TIME LINE. WOW!! That is funny seeing how I had only just said I was expecting to hear shortly. They have obviously changed how they do things, and it seems much clearer. I list below what they have said. FORM 80 to be completed and sent immediately (another 18 page challenge!!) POLICE CHECKS by March 2014. MEDICALS and ASSURANCE OF SUPPORT by June 2014. So there is hope for all who are waiting. This new system,( if that is what it is) is a lot clearer I think. Now to update my info on the Chireckles site.
  12. Hi Tab just reread your message, what a kerfuffle for you. Yes, we are still waiting, but I have high hopes of hearing something soon, ever the eternal optimist!! regards Caro
  13. Hi Junglist. Nope, not heard anything yet, so in the same boat as you and Tab with a similar time scale. As is also Veronique, but on another thread. I have high hopes that we will hear something within the next couple of weeks, but have nothing to base this on!! Optimism is a wonderful thing! Regards Caro
  14. Hi there MMant, thank you for your very informative reply. Regards C.
  15. Hello Brumby Oooh, doesn't it get more confusing and fuzzy around the edges! We applied in June, so waiting with bated breathe after reading your experience. It will still be a long wait though I  Regards Caro
  16. How exciting for you Mozza. It will be all go from now on I suspect. Only just started on our journey. So many questions buzz around, like Medicare, private medical insurance etc. but we have nearly sorted out the pensions/drawdowns, so that is a relief. so we will also have about a fifteen month wait, but it would be nice to have had an acknowledgement, apart from the money being taken. C.:dull:
  17. Hi, RR. I'm into freecycling and charity shops, plus of course eBay (OT's domain!). Had success with 'freegle'. We wonder whether to try and sell early on and then rent, but I suppose that is a bit risky, in case the visa's are not granted! With our past experience of house selling, the last time it took ages, probably due to the market at the time. However, as you have said it seems to be picking up now. best wishes and good luck with your local tip boss!! Caro:wink:
  18. What wonderful news for you RR. When do you hope to move, and to where? Decluttering is quite therapeutic, we have started VERY early, due mainly to stuff inherited which we should have disposed of in previous moves, but sometimes there is an emotional attachment to things, and you have to just let go. All the best of luck. Caro
  19. Thanks for your reply Rowley. See what you mean about form 80!! And a lot of the info.has already been given. I notice you say your acknowledgement letter was DATED the 12th so maybe ours is in the post somewhere. I did read somewhere a few weeks ago that acknowledgement letter were in the process of being sent out, so will have to wait and see. Sometimes there seems to no regular pattern. Regards Caro:smile:
  20. Hello rowleyrocket. What good news for you, apart from having to fork the money, but we are all in the same boat! Please can you tell me when you actually lodged your 143 application? I am finding the 'timelines' people put on very helpful. I just wish I knew how to do it!! Showing my advanced years I'm afraid. Thanks C.
  21. Hi there, not sure whether to call you 'brummie babies' or Angie & Ted?! I see that your application was lodged on 6/6/11 and acknowledged on the 10th June 2011. I'm slightly worried because even though the first VAC has come off the credit card, we have not had an acknowledgement yet. We lodged in June 2013. I fully realise that these things take a long time and am prepared for the wait, but wondered what your secret is for your acknowledgement to only take 4 days. Can you also tell me what is a form 80 referred to by Rowleyrocket today? Perhaps I'll ask her. All the best, C.
  22. Hi there, another newby. I put in an application for a 143 (old persons cont. visa!) in June, so we won't hear anything for a very long time. I did look at the 600 visa, but they only talk about people waiting on the 103 visa (don't know which it is). So haven't done anything as I don't want to mess the 143 application. Do find the immigration info. Difficult to understand sometimes, and I like to think that I am fairly with it! My daughter has PR so effectively there would not be any probs. Thanks for listening to my ramblings.
