  1. Hi there, I am not being impatient. I was simply seeking advice and had a few questions. This forum is the perfect place for that. Also it's a good place to get to know others in a similar situation. Re: beauracracy that's a whole other debate. I am just very grateful to the people who helped answer my questions today. :wideeyed:
  2. thanks so much for responding to me :-) makes perfect sense! I should have thought to ask! Lol :-)
  3. Hi everyone, I have just sent all of our paperwork to our Visa Agent at Go Matilda. Last Sunday I scanned and sent the documents. So now I think that gets sent for our EOI. Secondary Teacher and Electrician 189 visa route with 65 points. I have a few questions today... Hope someone can help? How will I know if we have been invited to apply? Is there anywhere I can check? I think the invite rounds are 7th Nov and 20th Nov? Would I receive an email? Go Matilda have been fab so far in keeping us right and dealing with everything. These questions came to me today... As I realised it's the 7th.. Eeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkk! I thinking should maybe research this further in terms of what happens next and the process. If we get invited to apply then it's police checks and medicals... How long then would the process take after that? Thanks on advance! Away for the weekend and all these questions suddenly popped into my head! Thought no better place than here to seek advice.
  4. love this too!! Paperwork today it is! EOI to submit! Thanks x
  5. what at a truly lovely uplifting post! Giving me the motivation to get my EOI paperwork together today and submitted! Thank you! X
  6. Hi there  I am am applying as a Secondary Teacher. I am currently a PT in Scotland and teach Social Subjects. My OH is an Electrician. We are applying for 189. I've had a positive skills assessment. Sat IELTS and needed 8s in every category (overall score doesn't count) eventually sat Pearsons PTE Academic and scored highly. We have 65 points at the moment and this weekend we are going to get all the paperwork looked out to submit the EOI eeeeeeeeeekkkkkkk:wub: I'm not sure when the next round of invites are so Ill need to check that! Sometimes recently doubts are creeping in but that's just because I've been thinking too much! Our plan is to take things a year at a time. Go for a year and take it from there. Keep house here and rent it out. We are planning to go to Brisbane/Sunshine Coast area. I guess it will all depend on work. Good luck!!
  7. Hi there, yes 10 points! This happened to me x2 with the IELTS exam. It was only the reading paper I fell down on. First time 6.5 :arghh: Second time 7.5 . I then decided to give the Pearson PTE Academic a go! I have the required 20 points. I had studied for the IELTS exam but kept running out of time in the reading paper. Pearson PTE was still a demanding exam and I had to learn how to study for that and the structure etc.. However, I think the way the Pearson PTE exam is fairer in terms of the scoring.
  8. Ha ha! Yes I had a similar experience! And my wedding rings and watch! Although people wearing scarfs much bulkier than mine for religious reasons was allowed. Also taking a highlighter into the exam was NOT allowed! I was yelled at for having a highlighter! Eh..... I'm just pleased I've now passed this hurdle!! Thanks everyone for comments :notworthy:
  9. Hi everyone, well I have still been lurking here but not posted for a while. I had sat the IELTS exam x2 over a few months needing 8s in every category. Twice I got 8s and 9s for everything apart from reading paper. First time 6.5 in reading paper :skeptical: Second time 7.5 :arghh: So, I decided to have one last shot but not at IELTS. Instead I took the Pearsons PTE Academic Test. This was equally as demanding ( IMO only) in terms of timings however, I've got the required scoring! I needed at least 79 in every section and I achieved into 80s in every section some higher than others. That gives me 20 visa points which means we now have 65 points!! I found the Pearsons test centre much more relaxed than IELTs and the people were much friendlier and put you at ease a bit. Some people wouldn't need that but I was feeling the pressure as it was the last time I was willing to sit it! Please feel free to ask any questions about the exam format - I will try to help
  10. I have pm'd you! Yes I was there in Edinburgh that day too! I have still to re sit! Wow! Your scores were great. I'd be interested to chat with you about this  And to see what practice you did. I felt so so sorry for that wee girl that day. Was a shame.....
  11. Hi there, were you in Edinburgh the same day as me?? We waited hours and a wee Japanese girl travelled from London?? :arghh:
  12. Hi everyone, I haven't posted for a while. I have now sat the IELTS test x2 test 1 results: writing - 9 listening - 8 speaking - 8.5 reading - 6 test 2 results: writing - 8 listening - 8 speaking - 8.5 reading -7.5 I am very frustrated with this!!!! I am a teacher and my qualifications have now been assessed and come back fine. We have paid a considerable amount to the visa people too. I am going to book the Pearsons test as opposed to the IETLS as I've read that this is fairer in terms of the timings. I did study for IELTS and purchased two books of past papers. As well as this I downloaded papers from online and watched the online you tube tutorials. This appears to me to be a licence to print money! However, without it we are going no where. I can only sit the Pearsons test on the 4th August as they seem to have less available dates for this. Any advice? Thanks
  13. Thank you for this post!! I think I am going to change from resitting the IELTS Exam to the PTE-A Exam. I also was frustrated at the IELTS on the day as there was a lot of waiting about and I waited over 2.5 hours to then go to do the speaking part...
  14. No wonder you are gutted!!! so so close!! yet so far!!
  15. Thanks! I think I completed that one in a practice test lol :biglaugh::confused:
  16. Thanks for the positivity - was gutted yesterday! Today got up and I'm now going to put energy into doing something about the low score.
  17. Hi Ozmaniac, I am going to look into this further and do some reading and perhaps switch to the Pearson's test. Thanks for the advice!
  18. I took the test in Glasgow! Yes! It was about Glaciers.... Jeezo!!! I lost it in the reading paper. Panicked over time as well. All this paying for extra I don't agree with. I have an honours degree in English! And I teach every single day. If I don't get it second time round then it's not meant to be! Not throwing money at this. I'll find a plan B I have a good job here and so maybe what will be will be....
  19. Hi Jac2011 I know I shouldn't give up think I'm just a bit disappointed and the prospect of doing that exam again is not appealing when working full time. I'll give it another go. Probably sooner rather than later. So many hurdles! Lol I see that you are planning to head to Brisbane later this year! How exciting! I can't wait to hear all about your journey and then be able to pick your brains.
  20. Hi everyone, well my results are in... I sat the test a bit later than planned on the 18th of April here are my results: writing - 9 speaking - 8.5 listening - 8 reading - 6.5 I need to do the whole thing again!!! Gutted!!! My timing was off in the reading paper and then I panicked plus one of the topics was very boring!! I have decided to give this one more shot and if the same happens I'm out. good luck to everyone else about to sit this!
  21. Hi there, wow! what a positive post! It is great to read positive posts on here when we are in the UK. We are just starting out on this journey and I do have moments where I think there is so much to do and wobble :twitcy: We are a family of three we have one son. We are simply looking for new experiences and the new opportunities to work and do some travelling in Australia. We have a good life here in Scotland and we are not looking to replace that. Thanks for sharing your experience of Australia so far!
  22. Hi there, I can't offer much advice as we are just embarking on this journey too. However, I wanted to say good luck!! I look forward to hearing all about your adventures on here
  23. Thanks Tina! Great advice! I don't know where I'd be without this forum. My husband has family who live in the Gold Coast and my cousin is in Cairns and planning a move to the Sunshine Coast next Year. It is good to have some contacts. I'll get to that once I have the visa stuff out of the way. Guess we need to make sure we can get the visas first! It is exciting and makes me nervous at the same time! :jiggy: I will defo pm you soon with some questions. Thank you! Lisa x
  24. Hi Tina 0101 Thank you  Yes I had read about registering well before we plan to arrive. Did your husband find work on arrival? or apply from here once visas arrive? What kinds of things do you guys do at the weekends ? Lisa x
  25. Hi Matt, I am Lisa  Wow! Thank you so much for that information that is great! I'm off this week and next week so getting paperwork together and researching! We are using visa agent Go Matilda and so far they have been keeping me right with the paperwork (hunner of it!) I am going to check out those links - THANK YOU!!. Re the OH yeah I think he has a skills course to do in London too. At the moment I have just sent off all my qualifications to be assessed and I was supposed to sit the IELTS exam a few weeks ago... however, I had to postpone it. New date to sit this is the 18th of April  Once again thanks for you advice. I will be back with loads more questions!! Lisa x
