  1. Hi Well I am in Scotland at the moment and we have quite broad accents! however I was on Skype to my friend in Perth at the weekend and she sounds Australian! with a little bit of and English twang. In saying that she has been there for about 6 or 7 years now. I have a cousin in Cairns and he just sounds the same way that he did when he left England. I think children might be more prone to picking up wee ozzy accents but I could be wrong perhaps it is individual
  2. Hi everyone, We are fairly new here! I have just booked my IELTS for 28th of March. We are in Scotland at the moment I am a Secondary Teacher and my hubby is an electrician. We are planning to move to Brisbane or the Sunny Coast (recent decision after research and Skype with friends) I have been in touch with Go Matilda today. They advise that I should start my skills assessment asap! I have read nothing but positive reviews for Go Matilda and wanted to check experiences on this trusty site. We would be applying for a 189 Skilled Independent Visa. I am the main applicant as my OH doesn't fancy the IELTS exam! Would be interested to hear views on Go Matilda! If good reviews then I shall process first payment asap. wow!! After years of talking about this we are actually doing it! feeling excited and a bit scared  We are a family of three with one son aged 11 at the moment. Thanks in advance! Lisa x
  3. Hi there We are also planning to make the move but not until 2016. Just booked IELTS exam and started studying today
  4. Betty Boo Have you had any luck with work? Job interviews etc?
  5. p.s. thanks for the advice we will get onto looking into that
  6. Hi BB Yes we have been researching for a good year or so now and my OH will have to go to London to do TRA and also would also need to go to college once in OZ to work independently otherwise would get work supervised. I have been just trying to get a feel or the job situation. And the best place for opportunities? There is a lot to think about.... sometimes I am thinking where do I start?? I guess I start with the IELTS and then take it from there. We had originally thought about Perth but have since decided that we might be better placed near to a city where hopefully there will be opportunities and schools to choose from for our son. Any advice would be so welcome! thanks for replying!
  7. Hi everyone I am quite new to this and my question might be a bit of a long shot:biglaugh: I wondered about job prospects for Electricians in either Melbourne or Brisbane. I figured that if my husband could get work I could pick up supply hopefully! Can anyone give an idea of overall prospects? difficulties finding work etc? If my questions are too broad and vague please say. At a recent emigrate event in Scotland we were told that New South Wales were 'sponsoring electricians' where would we look to find that out? Currently just started process for 189 visas... Thanks in advance!
  8. This was such a great post and a very interesting read! Thanks for giving me another wee bit of inspiration to follow my dreams  I have been researching Melbourne. My OH is an electrician and I am a Secondary School Teacher - you wouldn't happen to know what the employment situation is like for either of these jobs? I would be happy to do supply work if my OH could get a job. We have one son aged 11 and we are just researching the best areas for schools etc.. Thanks again!
  9. Hi Atlas Thanks! Yes I have started to research this again and I have been working through some exemplar papers and answers. Need to do lots of practice! Trying to take things a step at a time as there is so much to think about in this process. But nothing ventured nothing gained I guess
  10. Hi everyone, Well after a few years of doing a lot of talking about giving the move down under a go I have finally booked my IELTS exam  for the 28th of March. My hubby and I will try to get our 189 visas and the visa agent does not think we will have difficulty although I have to get 7s in every category of IELTS for 10 points and 8s for 20 points. Without the IELTS exam I have 55 points. We have been exploring the possibility of Perth or Melbourne? I know from research that both these places are very different so I guess it comes down to where we can get jobs? We have one son aged 11. My OH is an Electrician and I am a Secondary Teacher and currently teach History and Politics. Could anyone offer advice on the job situation in either of these fields? I have ordered IELTS past papers today from Amazon and would sit the General Exam. Not looking forward to that! :arghh: Look forward to forming some friendships on here hopefully
  11. Hi there, i am also new to this. Mind boggling with visa information, areas to settle, where to start finding work. Good luck!
  12. Hi all  I am new here but I've been lurking for a while. Been to lots of emigration shows over the last few years. The feeling of going to Oz to work and live to give it a go just won't go away. Even just to give it a go! I am a Secondary Teacher with over 6 years experience and my hubby has a trade. I've been reading lots and on the immigration and teaching recruitment sites. Regarding the visa process where do we start? It seems to have all changed? So is my first step doing the IELTS exam? Or? Feeling a bit overwhelmed about how to start this process?:arghh: Any help or advise most appreciated:wink:
