  1. Try the Mustang Bar in Northbridge (it's an 'interesting' place!) or maybe take a look at the Rosemount in North Perth. There aren't too many rock bars in Perth - Amplifier is more electro I think.

    Vietnam Airlines

I flew internally from Ho Chi Minh to Danang with them. I would not fly longhaul - think cattle class - but fine for a short trip. This was 2010. It was a basic airline and the fleet is old but it all seemed safe enough. On the return leg we upgraded to Business for a pathetically small amount - it was worth it.
  3. Mine took about 3 weeks. If you look on the Australia Post site it will give you guidelines. http://auspost.com.au/passports-id/british-passports.html If you need to travel urgently, you can visit the Embassy and they can give you a temporary passport - it's not cheap though!
  4. Hi Jimmy, This thread might help. http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/migration-issues/151926-857-visa-my-experience-those-thinking-leaving-before-two-years-2-print.html I do know of at least 2 people who have successfully left their original role, informed immigration and were told there would be no repercussions. Perhaps have a chat with a migration agent who can give you an informed opinion on your case. Not a nice situation to be in - regardless of other people's personal viewpoints, you can only do what is right for you.
  5. TRIM is actually a document management system used by some Government Depts so perhaps it could refer to that?
  6. Its like ANYWHERE - it's what you make of it. And of course there are both good points and bad. But there so seem to be a lot of Perth haters on this forum. Personally, I think Perth has improved massively over the last 5 years and I am very happy here.
  7. It's all been said before....then shot down in flames. I've watched enough wars on these pages to know not to get drawn into one.
  8. The Perth I live in seems very different to the one that's depicted on here so often.
  9. I guess the problem is that with the rental market being to tight, people turn up ridiculously early in the hope that they can get in there first. Most rental agents I've encountered are so much past caring that they wouldn't even try and stop the hordes getting into the building. They don't even need to try in Perth at the moment.
  10. I think that might put me off the place! In seriousness though, terribly sad that things like this can happen. http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/man-was-looking-for-a-rental-but-found-a-body-20130418-2i1jw.html
  11. Now that you mention it....I'd just though Australia Post were particularly slack! I've also lost count of the cases of wine that have been 'lost in transit'!
  12. I agree! There's one of those in Inglewood/Bedford and its rather special!!
  13. Recruitment works a little differently in Australia - sorry, I hope that doesn't sound patronising! You'll find that you need to use the personal touch. Call people instead of emailing, go round businesses face to face and see if they have anything going. Possibly register with a recruitment agency - not online, again face to face. Hays tend to offer jobs in all sectors so they might be worth a try. Also, Australianise (probably not a real word!) your CV. It does need to be slightly different from the standard UK version. This thread might be helpful: http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/jobs-careers/140658-tips-writing-competitive-aussie-cvs.html
  14. Well it ain't yours - you haven't earned it. You need to be there for 7 years to qualify. You don't qualify, you don't get it. Why shouldn't the employer take it back? It's put aside on the premise that it's available once you complete the qualifying period. If you don't, of course the employer can take it back.
  15. Nothing - you only become eligible after 7 years. If you don't stay that long you get nothing. It's not like super or anything like that. It's a reward for long service so you only get if you complete long service. Otherwise, what's the point.
  16. As Windswept mentioned, ff you've not worked 7 years then no. This might help: http://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/labourrelations/pdf/Misc/LongServiceLeaveCalculation.pdf Sadly, it's not your money - it's your employers
  17. Thanks for your opinion. As I said, its all subjective. I've enjoyed the places I mentioned but will bow to your superior knowledge.
  18. I guess it's all subjective. I do like both Andaluz and Red Cabbage, the latter being very much modelled on good old Heston's style! Andaluz has some unusual dishes and some great wines. Other good places (IMHO) are Lalla Rookh, Quarter on Hay and Amphoras. I wasn't impressed by Must at all. Of the more everyday places, Mykonos in Mt Lawley, and Mez in Northbridge are great for Greek/Mediterranean and 2 Fat Indians is pretty good too for Indian food - yes, it is different here. Not better, not worse, just different. Little Creatures Loft does some excellent food as does Clancy's in Freo.
  19. Not at all. It's a huge organisation! Iron Ore are going through a bit of growth so not a bad time to be looking at joining. If his interview is at City Square (Brookfield Place), just warn him that the offices are amazing!
  20. Hi there What division is the interview with? I'm a contractor with Iron Ore and would say to take a look at the Charter - they are REALLY big on this and it's implications. http://www.bhpbilliton.com/home/aboutus/ourcompany/pages/charter.aspx As was already mentioned, they are very safety focused and mentioning awareness of this would be helpful. Even if he doesn't have mining experience, it shouldn't hold him back - focus on the positives and other experience he can offer. They are quite forward thinking so I wouldn't dwell too much on that. They are very much are demonstrated achievements (as is the Australian job market in general!) so go in with a stack of examples ready to go. They are also very much looking at forward improvement and growth (despite what the media says!) so might be worth bearing that in mind too.
