  1. That looks terrible to read - consider using paragraphs for starters. It hurts my eyes.
  2. We looked at moving there, but have now dismissed it due to the ridiculous property prices. I would have to work my nuts off to pay for the mortgage until I was 90 years old! Math not entirely accurate, but you get the point hopefully
  3. Would this mean that super paid to one during retirement is tax free? If not, it would be taxed twice.
  4. It's not strange to me. We have PR (subclass 189). Still living in the UK. Next year, we plan to move over to Australia, with me _possibly_ going first by myself for a month or 2. Our reasons are so I can get a job and/or be sure that it is secure(ish). Everyone has there own reasons for doing things the way they do.
  5. I would be extremely pissed at this!! It reminds me of an old colleague in the pub once. Everyone got rounds in, then when it was his turn he just went and bought for himself. If you feel that strongly about it, you should say something. Put it in a letter. Sounds official (!) but it's not meant to be. It means you can tread carefully when choosing your words. The letter can be edited before giving to the MIL. Otherwise, as Bungo said, chalk it down to experience. Once bitten, twice shy.
  6. You DON'T have to prove you have funds with a 189 visa - you can rock up with $1 in your back pocket if you like, although that's probably not adviseable because you're going to need a bit more than that for day to day living! You DO have to prove funds with a 190 visa though (the amount varies from state to state, also depends on number of family members coming with you). Sorry, can't advise on suburbs
  7. They stopped that concession during the last 12 months.
  8. If you can, go for the 189 visa - no restrictions. 190 visa: there's moral obligation to live/work in the state who sponsors you. QLD have fund requirements: http://migration.qld.gov.au/wp-content/uploads/pdf/Settlement-Funds_skilled.pdf "unless I can get sponsorship" - I would strongly advise against this if you are eligible for a 189 or 190 visa. You're in for a world of pain if your employer drops you.
  9. It's 2.0%. Stop replying to post from 12 months ago!
  10. 6 months left? Why not take a few weeks (or more) holiday to activate your visa?
  11. What is his skill/trade? Has he considered looking for work in a different city/state? I'm in software development, and we'd love to move to Perth next year - but the job situation doesn't look very good for software developers out there (at least my area, non-Microsoft stuff). Things look OK for me around Sydney and Melbourne (where we DON'T want to live). Brisbane (our 2nd choice) market is a little better than Perth (not brill). Typical! All depends on his occupation.
  12. https://www.gov.uk/child-benefit-abroad
  13. Child benefit or Pet benefit? (you posted to the Pets forum)
  14. Have you applied directly to the state yet? IIRC, you have to do that, and then the state picks up your EOI.
  15. Devastating? It takes roughly 20 minutes to fill in an EOI. Unless the problem is due to you close to an age limit that would see you get less points?
  16. Either way, it's invalid. Contact ACS to re-new your skills assessment? This will probably mean re-submitting all of the previous paperwork, and new paperwork to show work experience between last assessment and the current date.
  17. Aside from the job hunting... - Have you already got your tourist visa? - If the visa gets granted while you're on-shore, have you made plans to exit and re-enter Oz to activate your visa? - If you haven't got the tourist visa yet, be careful that it doesn't get granted soon after your "proper" visa - it may get overridden.
  18. Why not just get your skills assessed and find out? ACS will give you a date that they deemed you skilled. Relevant employment (relevant to the ANZSCO code you're applying for) *after* this date is used to gain skilled employment points with DIBP. Whether that is 8.5 years or 10.5 years is irrelevant anyway, because 8 years is the maximum you can claim points for.
  19. 190 has a moral obligation (for now - what happens if they change that in the future?) 189 has no restrictions. If you have an EOI in for a 189, why not just wait for the invite from that?
  20. Ignore, I think i misread it.
  21. Visa applicants >> Who could get this visa Who is your near relative Your near relative is your parent or your partner's parent (including biological and step-parent), brother, sister, stepbrother or stepsister; child (including stepchild) who has turned 18 and is not a dependent child; or child (including stepchild) who has not yet turned 18 years of age and is not in your or your partner's daily care and control. EDIT: think i need to re-read the spec!
  22. You mean eVisitor visa (subclass 651)? http://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/651.aspx
  23. Indeed! Yeah, the hard work is finding a job. Do i go out alone (easier and cheaper), or the whole family go (expensive!). A short while ago, we came to the realisation that planning too far into the future sucks. So we may just decide "lets go next week!" haha
