    UK arrival report

Since being here in Australia I wonder about our friends in the UK. Only one really keeps in touch regularly. The others I wonder if they were real friends??? As far as they are concerned I think they think we are dead. Get the odd facebook message but they have dwindled and we have only been here a short while. Not one friend has telephone since we been here after asking for our number despite us ringing on birthdays xmas ect. I cant be a"£$%d with Australia and to be honest I cant be a$£"%^$d with the UK either.
  6. You can get swede although they are the size of a UK cooking apple if your lucky they are tiny little things dont taste of much here though

    suggestions

Ok so we have had the movers give a very reasonable quote for shipping back home our belongings. All we need to do is set a moving date and book flights. It will take approximately 10 weeks for our furniture etc to arrive to the door. We want to travel before we go back for 6 weeks via Singapore Kuala Lumpur Vietnam Cambodia then a long stop off in Thailand. Would love some views and advice on booking all this. Is it better to book flights and accommodation independently or go with a travel company to arrange flights hotels etc?? Suggestions on what sites to use if booking independently for best prices would be gratefully received. Has anyone done this or have they just gone straight home? If going straight back home did you have some where to go did you lodge with family etc and the pitfalls? We can go straight back to our little house but we would be furniture less for 10 weeks and do not fancy that early next year due to the weather etc and do not really want to stay with family for any length of time. Any way thanks in advance for any replies.
  12. Bit late replying to this one Perth People money orientated big time, rude, big egos, not partial to migrants, racist, not very bright, not very friendly - think they lack social skills, some nice suburbs then some not so, mostly tin roof mini cities, shopping is poor, Perth city erm rather a large town although very pretty to look at when coming in by train on the Mandurah line, weather mostly good apart from the last 8 weeks, huge house prices, huge rents, lots of homeless people, drugs problems etc etc every thing is so expensive and over priced on the back of the fifo workers. The wildlife is fantastic I have to say for me is the best part have taken some fantastic photos. At some point it is going to go bang and a lot of folks are going to find them selves right up to their armpits in debt which is a shame but then again they knew what they were doing. It is not all built on cash but finance. Right going to take a breath now.
  13. We came not blinkered but not with rose tinted glasses on either. It from the start has been a farce for us one set back after another. But for some its a breeze and they love it here. For us after the novelty of the sun and beaches wears off there's nothing. We knew Perth was isolated but wow it certainly is a shock after a while. Hard to admit but I am bored of the place. Just so glad we didn't sell up in the UK to come here. Some areas here are nice but especially the older ones, the new ones are tin roof cities. I never in all of my couch potato life thought I would go and join a gym to try and relieve boredom my friends back home certainly have a chuckle over this! It is not an easy move and unless you try it you wont find out. I certainly think there should be another program made in the UK to counter act Wanted Down Under interviewing people who return home. That should open a few eyes. I just cant wait to finally set a date to move back home the wheels are in motion as they say.
  14. Hi Blobby what a lovely honest post, you get some people who will say the move back from brilliant even if it wasn't just to save face. That also could be the same for people who move here and try to save face
  15. With us it was my hubby who wanted to go home in the beginning but that has changed it is me driving the move back home now. I hate the lonliness of this country difficulty making friends and being on my own for most of the time. But we both deep down know it is for the best. I am really looking forward to it also. Just had quote from builder to do some alterations to our little house when thats done get a painter and decorator in bobs your uncle all ready to move back to. Then soon as we are all moved in and our container arrives put it up for sale to move back to our real home. Happy days.
  16. This one made me laugh because we kept all our plugs after chopping more than a few off. The tv things all plugged into uk power board which hubby replaced plug to oz also all the pc things in a power board with oz plug. Things like toaster kettle etc all changed but we still have the uk plugs here hehehe. We also will be changing them back on arrival home early next year and cant wait..................
  17. Hi Only you can make the decision to move back. But at least you have PR so if it does not work you can come back.

    decision made

Hi We still have our homes back in the UK. Luckily tenants have just vacated our little house so we are moving back into that decorating etc then putting it up for sale. Then we will move back to our home .................. So we are lucky in that respect

    decision made

Well moving company came today to estimate our move back home. Yes it will all fit in a 20 ft container - this we knew - but they have to follow policy etc and come and estimate. Yes it is now real yipeee Next step obtain the quote early next week. Step two fill in the dreaded insurance itemised list and obtain a quote from them. Then obtain a quote for marine insurance from Lance Percival as they on times work out cheaper - if anyone has another shipping company insurance firm to obtain quotes all suggestions gratefully received. Step three we just have to pick a move date - this is proving the most difficult Step four book moving date after accepting quote etc Then lastly book flights to leave for home taking in a few sights for about 5 weeks on the route as we will be furniture less for up to 10 weeks. So by having an extended tour it will only be 5 weeks giving time to repaint house etc while camping out in our house - this should be fun ........... We have discussed the fact of not returning in the mid of winter possibly April for Welsh spring.:biggrin::biggrin:
  20. Well if we are guilty of raping and pillaging Australia then so be it. Yes we pay extortionate taxes extortionate health care put money into the economy also. Yes we get looked down upon for the skills we bring hence taking the jobs but hey if they could do it then we wouldnt be needed eh ???? Well there have been others before us and no doubt others after. But then if the history books are to be believed everyone who came here after the continent was discovered way way back surely are guilty of the same. No point in saying here for the sun sand and good living it ifs not the case for us. My hubby could have gone to Africa or Saudi and made more money tax free. But here we can at least see each other a bit more. Didn't want him going to Africa living in a guarded camp being driven to work daily with armed guards. Saudi well cant live a life there due to the restrictions etc. So it was Australia, thank god its not for ever................ ps we were fairly set up before we came here so we are most definitely not gnawing the hand that feeds us. Dont criticize just say it the way its seen from our perspective. Australia is not for everyone good luck to those who think it is for us it is not
  21. Well from Sydney's previous postings perhaps it proves that what some posters including my self are trying to say from their own perspective is completely right. Just my opinion
  22. Sydney Not that it is any of your business but being the callous shrewd people we are the answer to your fairly personal question is YES
