  1. Yeh i think 2 weeks would be ok, have a look at ielts-simon.com, i found this really useful and provides you with lots of hints and tips on what the format of the exam is like etc. I sent my ANMAC assessment off but I made the mistake of saying I had passed when in fact I hadnt got 7 in the reading, (got 6.5 ), I just looked at my overall score and pressed 'send' !! , anyway, I dropped them an email saying what I had done and they came back immediately and just said as soon as they receive the IELTS pass they can finalise the application and it was not a problem (phew!!) I cant get into another one now though until the end of June.
  2. I am 8 months post qualifying, I HAVE to get the 20 points which is possible by getting 8's in the academic. As stated above you'll need a minimum of 7's in EACH section to satisfy the ANMAC skills requirements. However, if you dont gain the 8's (20 points) in the academic and get a minimum of 7's (10 points) you can re-sit and do the general, get 7's in each section you can claim a further 10 from here ! = 20 points  Good luck... have you booked your test??
  3. LOL. your reply made me giggle.... 'insult' 'vood' dont you just love predictive texting
  4. Hi.. Im an 8 month post qualifying nurse too and my only option is the 489 visa, as Im 44 I have limited time to get everything sorted before I hit 45 (thereby losing a further 15 points after Im 45 !!) I have to gain 20 points in the IELTS, as you can see I still dont have the required 8's in each section therefore I have to resubmit for visa purposes. Good luck, as 489 is my ONLY path in, nothing I can do about it so whatever is thrown at us which is negative on this visa I have no option but to accept it and just get on with it. Have you done the IELTS yet ??
  5. I am a nurse and just getting the documents together for my initial skills assessment with ANMAC. For those who have got to the visa application stage, could you tell me what documents (and HOW MANY?) do you think I should get officially signed for at the solicitors so that I only have to make 1 visit and hopefully keep the cost to a minimum. Thanks in advance
  6. Im nowhere near that stage but how do you go about medicals and police checks, do they provide recommended institutes? how long are they valid for and roughly how much do they cost? Thanks...
  7. Maybe if they receive that within a week providing the IELTS centre send it straight away they may be in a position to just confirm your LOD, they are probably just back logged and im sure it doesnt take 16 weeks to process just the back log they have to cope with .... hope so !! for when the weeks start ticking for me !
  8. Thanks for that, now I feel dumb as its quite self explanatory on their website!! but thanks !!
  9. in the supporting document checklist No. 8. Professional References Could someone advise what they submitted as evidence of at least 3 months paid work experience as a nurse? Im not a stupid person but I presume they want copy of wage slips? Do we have to approach our employers/ward managers for anything, I really dont want mine to know just yet, I havent worked longer than 3 years so Im unable to claim extra points at this stage... Thanks for your help..
  10. thank you you for your advice. When it comes to my children they are my no 1 priority and will exhaust all avenues when it comes to the best path for them both. I'm certainly not naive or blinkered with regards to the seriousness of this important time for them and will not be making decisions lightly. that said, it is still my intention to get there ASAP and not wait till they have finished a levels etc, I think the sooner they get chance to meet people the better it can be for them.
  11. My daughter will be 16 and will complete her Gcse exams in June. We are more than aware that they will not be of any use over in oz, we hope to get her back to a further 2 years at school in Adelaide where she will be able to gain the relevant qualifications PLUS have the opportunity to gather a social network which I believe would be a brilliant start for her. My other daughter is 18 ! And she hopes to start a taffe / uni course. I would NOT have considered leaving them until they had finished, I think the sooner they make new friends out there the sooner they hopefully will settle in. Both my children are keen and have been for the last 5 years, that doesn't stop me worrying about them though. good luck, I'm sure she will make new friends quickly and forget what all the fuss was about xx
  12. What is the company name? keep it in mind for the future... thanks
  13. Omg, you must be beyond gutted..... But live in hope that it comes back on soon:frown:
  14. I was under the impression that documents like these had to be posted ?? Could be wrong though.... I'm only just learning the ins and outs as I'm new to the visa process, I'm sure someone will be able to help you out
  15. Im a nurse so I shouldn't have too much trouble finding a job, may not be the one I want to start off with but my priority is to just get the ball rolling out there ASAP. I can't apply for permanent residency as i don't have enough years experience plus as I'm 44 age is against me for those much needed extra points, hence why I HAVE to get 8's to gain the extra points. We have been advised to go for the state sponsored visa, certainly not my first choice but we have to go with it. We will have to bite the bullet and just go with it, then once the 2 years are up we shall apply for permanent residency. got excited today as I arranged certain aspects I.e. Nursing registration papers to be sent to Oz, sorted out the 'notary' to sign my documents.... Got few things together and so it shouldn't really take too long .... My ideal would be to be in Oz by January, start of the new school term for my girls ....
  16. Hahaah I know what you mean, there was just me and 1 other lady who were native English. I felt really uncomfortable stood in the queue lol, and they were so rude as well, the examiners had to constantly ask them to be quiet and not do this and that, it was so annoying. good to see your well on your way now !! Your not far from us, we live in slaithwaite ! Where does your wife work ??
  17. IELTS-simon.com is a good website which is free and I found this very useful. I. Sat my IELTS yesterday, everything went well apart from the reading which I felt was a total disaster. It was just the luck of the day on what paper you will get, unfortunately mine was quite complex, everyone I spoke to said the same, they felt they hadn't done well in it at all.
  18. After an hour and half of checks, thumb prints and photos I eventually sat the test !! Listening test went as well as I could expect, the reading was difficult literature to read and so if I fail it will be because of this section I'm sure. Writing went ok too as did the speaking. just feel really disappointed with the reading part :daydreaming:
  19. We'll I'm off to take my IELTS exam today in Manchester, I need to get 8's for everything but feel totally unprepared.ive been dipping in and out of many help websites but still don't feel positive  Oh well..... Fingers crossed.....
  20. I am taking my IELTS next weekend, totally in meltdown over it and getting myself in a real pickle! Im doing the academic and need to get 8+ for each section. Have been told that if I achieve 7+ I have the option then of sitting the general test but would have to gain a minimum of 7 for each of those too. I have been looking through the books but it doesnt make me feel any better about all this. I think that as I have just completed a degree at University all this extra pressure is a little 'mad', it makes me feel its just another way of getting lots of money of us. Good luck !
  21. ACTUALLY I THINK IT WAS GONNA BE A MINIMUM OF 3500, I seem to remember her saying it was nearer 6500!!
  22. Hi, At the end of my 2nd year I was beyond keen to do a placement for the oz experience and for it to look good on my cc. Unfortunately, in our uni we only had a certain number of allocations(I think it was 2) and the biggest downfall was that we had to pay for everything. I spoke to a lady who had just done it and it cost her approx 3500GBP which included flights, accommodation and cost of living etc. As the bursary isn't brilliant and because I have a family and mortgage and bills to pay etc it was simply just too much of a burden. If I'd had more savings then I would have def gone as she had a fantastic time. She was fortunate to be able to take her family with her and even stsyed an extra couple of weeks at the end of it for a 2 week holiday !! It's worth enquiring about as your respective unis may be able to contribute to the visit. Good luck !!! (I'm 6 months post qualifying, just revising for my IELTS... ts taken me 5 years to get to this stage..... Don't give up, you'll be surprised how quickly it goes)
  23. Hi.... I found the 2nd year to really drag and the cohort morale was generally in a low mood, then all of a sudden the 3rd year crept up, I chose my elective and before I knew it I was in my first job interview! I qualified in Sept 2013, started my first job the week after finishing my placement and can't believe I'm already nearly 4 months qualified ! I have waited 6+ years to get to get to this point and to start my visa process, I had planned on getting things in order once I had qualified but found I never had the time or was just totally shattered and here I am now ! My advice would be to get anything you need to start the process organised before you qualify, I've spent time reading up on certain things to do with certain conditions hence why I havent done anything yet..... Anyway, I now have annual leave and this weeek I am starting my anmac and ahpara applications and reading up for the IELTS test which I'll need the extra points for. By the time I've sorted everything and hopefully gained more experience I'll be almost a years qualified and hopefully more employable! It's quite daunting when you put on that blue uniform and it made me realise it would be too early to move to another country as well as still learning my new responsibilities which are so so different than being a student. Good luck everyone, believe me, it really will catch up with you before you know it.
  24. I continued to work full time as well as do the access course AND some voluntary work in a care home so I dont think you really need to give up your day job, devote so many hours a week, it all contributes to experience. I am about to qualify in 6 weeks time (eek) and I have still maintained my office job of approx 25 hours a week even when on placement as well as looking after the family home and 2 teenagers and do all my uni work and managed to get a degree.... Its tough going believe me, but going to Uni does NOT pay for your mortgage or pay for the food so some of us have to do hard slog, we got no financial bursaries as we did not qualify so you really have to consider the financial impact on YOU ALL (If you are in a family/mortgage etc). The day I qualify and I have no 2nd job, no assignments and portfolio competencies to write will be pure heaven... I can sit down with a stiff drink, pay myself on the back and say 'ya did it girl'....
  25. Not at all.. I qualify in 8 weeks () and I am 43... To gain those extra important VISA points we'll need to get everything in motion by the time im 45 but again have until the age of 50 to appply for a VISA, it just makes it more difficult getting the visa points.
