  1. Probably working on the 170 other 457 applications that get lodged every working day. Sent from my SM-G925I using Tapatalk
  2. Wrussell is an MA and what he said is correct. Sent from my SM-G925I using Tapatalk
  3. Ok..I should say that I didn't need one for mine. I simply had to supply the qualifications and experience level that was deemed necessary for the nominated skill. Perhaps someone else can confirm. Sent from my SM-G925I using Tapatalk
  4. No, you do not. Sent from my SM-G925I using Tapatalk
  5. Yeah, that's Brisbane Seriously though, it's unhelpful when a prospective economic migrant asks a (albeit pointless) question about job prospects and is met by a wholesale response based only on one person's narrow experience. I've said this before, the IT market is actually hundreds of markets, some of which are good and some are less good. If you are a particularly desirable prospect then you will find work even in a poor market. But then I guess those people will be doing proper research and contacting agents are recruiters rather than just asking on here and being met with the usual list of sob stories. Remember, the vast majority of IT workers are employed.
  6. Hi Mr mortgage company: 1) can we take out a BTL mortgage - NO 2) er..ok..can we have permission to let out the house on the current mortgage - NO 3) can we change to interest only - NO Okie dokie then, I'm posting the keys back. That's pretty much what happened when I moved over. And what do you know, a week later we got permission to let out the house for a 200 quid 'admin fee'.
  7. I admire your dedication to make the move Racmac...you must be pretty keen!
  8. Whether or not you're paid in the UK doesn't matter, you still need a visa that allows you to work. Best option si 457, second best is working holiday (I say second best because it's always a good idea to keep the WHV in the bag for a rainy day).
  9. Yeah, I have a friend who would currently benefit from such a lifeline that for a similar reason to yours isn't available and she very much wishes it was.
  10. If they make that change, it would be well overdue.
  11. Yeah, loads of providers let you do that, depending on the type of connection you buy. If you're in an NBN area, that's first choice. TPG / dodo were about the only one with unlimited downloads though - and they are the two bargain basement providers (but are mostly fine). iinet is better, and some of their plans have very high limts. No NBN, then either ADSL or cable. Adsl needs a phobe line to be active so you'll probably have to keep paying at least that bit of it and just switch the dsl on and off. Cable - you'll likely be contracted at least for the first period. Practically speaking, a cheap naked adsl service (a phone line is there, but not usable for calls) can be had for a little over $50 a month - so my choice would be get one of those on permanent basis and just suck it up.
  12. Bungo said you might be able to get the new role approved, but I'm pretty sure that the TRT scheme requires 2 years in the same role, that's what I meant by starting again.
  13. Then don't change job title then. New role & title means new visa. Sorry. Not my rules!
  14. And remember that if you intend to use temporary resident transition scheme, your clock on the 2 years will restart when you change roles.
  15. Yeah, that was a properly hateful post and I think it can mostly be disregarded as 50% high horse and 50% baiting. Don't worry too much about it - it's a forum, happens all the time. I tried early on to bring this thread back to facts only, but this is an issue that is just bound to go off the rails. However, one thing that I think you have done that might not of helped is that you've kept repeating the same things that have aleady been answered - namely that you keep pushing that some rule has changed, or that you refer to how rules were "at the time". That's fundamentally, factually just not correcy. The rules have remained the same, 12 demerits has technically been the limit but just hadn't been enforced. As soon as you accept that premise (as I did on the very first page) then you soon see that it's the end of the discussion.
  16. The only possible way I can see that this is unfair is that local drivers have the option of a good behaviour bond whereas an international driver under these circumstances does not. But since that offer expires in 30 days, even that argument is pretty weak. We got away with it for a while, but they've closed the loophole and we have to suck it up.
  17. Your idea is nuts. Firstly - your argument that international drivers have no rights doesn't hold water because an aussie driver would have been disqualified just the same, except earlier. Secondly, since your claim would be challenging a complex / new / politicial issue - the small claims courts track will pass it up the chain as it would have the possibility to set precedent and a slew of other claims will follow. In that case your exposure to costs will be huge if (when) you lose because they will defend it rigorously. Thirdly, speaking to a free advice line and a mate shows that you're out of your depth and are just scrambing. Just accept it and leave it. Same as I had to.
  18. Hey Londoncalling - I don't really have much to say other than I'm glad you posted, it was an intersting read and in some ways reflect what I and some of my other friends from the UK have felt.
  19. Don't pay too much attention to comments like this. There is no such thing as an 'IT Market' - it's hundreds of different occupations and it all depends on how many of those occuptions would line up with your skills and experience. The size of *your* IT market in Australia depends on that. To the OP: When we look at IT candidates (we're an IT firm) coming from Seek, a very very significant number (a majority) of the are not in Australia, and the vetting process throws them all out. The reason for this is that first working out working eligability for hundreds of applicants is too laborious, and on top of that the logistics (and differing levels of commitments) from overseas candidates makes them a bad bet. Agree with about that shouting PERMANENT RESIDENT might help. What I can tell you is the following: 1. Melbourne and Sydney as a whole are better bets for IT occupations overall 2. If you are well skilled and experienced in a relevent occupation, you will find work in either mel or syd for sure. 3. Either be prepared to wait, come to Australia without a job, or fake it somehow. One of those options Good luck.
  20. First thing's first, have a look at what visas might be available - if you share more details of your circumstances then there are very knowledgeable and could give you a start. On top of that, if you see a registered migration agent for an hour, they will tell you what's available for your circumstances. If you're giving up at the thought of the visa process then the level of commitment needed for a move like this might not be there. That's the easy part! As for the viability of a taxi company in Melbourne, I do know that taxi drivers whinge about not earning much, but cabbies whinge about everything so I wouldn't just go off that - owning a taxi company well well be just as good a business as anything other business, but ask people in the know. Good luck!
  21. Heh - pretty brutal Quinkla, but probably fair enough [emoji1]
  22. I think the legal technicality of it this will already have been explored before bringing this into force. Closing a loophole is not the same as changing a law. We have been exploiting a loophole to avoid the calculation of demerit points - but 12 demerits = disqualification regardless of the license, they have just implemented a system for calulating it. It's certainly worth the question though. Driving fines and in particular driving suspensions have always been heavily contested in court because of the effect on some people's livelihoods or whatever, so I would expect to see this used as a point of defense in lots of cases, so I guess we'll see. In my case it looks very clean cut and fair, so I am just going to serve a suspension if I get one. It's more of an inconvenience to me than anything else though because I live and work in inner Melbourne. Could someone please scan and upload the front and back of their notice? Redact any personal and unique information first of course. I would like to see what appeal options are pointed out on the notice, and whether there's an option of a magistrate's review. From what Vicroads just told me, you can request a review for an individual offense but not for the disqualification based on aggregation of demerits.
