  1. And from what the text says you cannot transfer until after the disqualification.
  2. Yup, it affects me adversely but you are correct about this. A road rule should rightly apply to all. Alex - when you find out how many points you get back after your ban can you let us know?
  3. What's new here seems to be the following 1. It applies to overseas drivers automatically, not just when you transfer to an aussie license 2. You cannot opt for the good behaviour bond: "...will be disqualified from driving in Victoria and from obtaining a Victorian driver licence or learner permit for a period of time. These drivers will be issued with a disqualification notice and will not be able to elect a 12 month extended demerit point period" 3. The ban applies at a point in time, and is retroactive. That's my interpretation of the page - Hopefully i've interpreted it correctly.
  4. I appreciate it Alex, I didn't know about this. I think we (and others) are in the same boat.
  5. Mods, can you please do something about this kind of baiting that is based on nothing, and seeks only to invite and encourage argument? This is an interesting and important topic and needs to not be derailed. Thank you.
  6. I suppose this change is overdue, and makes logical sense. I think the idea is that all drivers are treated equally. The question about retroactive application also makes sense, since avoiding demerit disqualification has always been a dodge of the rules, so this is simply enforcement of a previously existing rule and not actually a change. It's bad for me though for sure, I'm certain I'm over 12 points in 3 years by a margin.
  7. Your opinion on this is not relevant to the specific question asked, let's just stick to to the facts, which are concerning the new rule changes.
  8. The number of drivers in victoria probably just went down by 20% !!
  9. Sorry, I misunderstood your initial post. Oh dear, this is bad!
  10. I did mine in Australia, and I wasn't ever given a 'clearance' - they just use the ref# hiven by my CO and upload the results. I emailed my CO a week later and he confirmed that he had received the medical results. I don't think you even get to see the results. Plus x-rays and other tests take a few days.
  11. Do you ha e any reference to this recent 1st July change?
  12. Yeah, they have always done this. What we could never work out though is that the points get transferred over only in some cases. I have seen examples of demerits moving over and examples of them not.
  13. (And what you like to do with your evenings and weekends as well)
  14. It might be worth sharing details on your (and partner's?) age, number of kids and their ages, where you will likely work and what kind of lifestyle you have or want to have.
  15. Shouldn't you be busy applying for jobs?
  16. And you should add that you have a degree in modesty too :-) Maybe just apply for some jobs?
  17. Yep - I will this coming January.
  18. Can I suggest a practical option? Get your 457, then find a replacement sponsor. Even if you were to leave your employer you'd have 90 days then rather than the little time you have left now, and transferring a 457 is quicker than getting it in the first place
  19. I have seen some evidence (although not conclusive) that this can be picked up electronically. Someone working for our company had their salary droppedbelow was it was supposed to be once on a 457. 3 months later a "random" tax office visit with Officers "suggesting" they rectified their compliance with their obligations, and were quite specific, within 30 days.
  20. A sponsored visa is a 457 which rquires employment sponsorship and allows you to work up to 4 years per visa. Let's say you find a job in your line of work and they agree to sponsor you. For it to work 1) you have to be in a role that is on one of the two lists 2) you then must demonstrate that you are qualified for the role, usually by a degree or failing that other certifications or significant work expeience. Looks like you are barking up the wrong tree and need to look at othe options.
