  1. I applied on 10th May and received notification of grant on September 27th and then the actual grant came through October 2nd Hope that helps!!
  2. We used voovit and it cost £300 for 10 30kg boxes to be posted London-Melb. It took about two months
  3. Hello!! I just had my visa granted and was in the exact situation you are in - I hadn't heard a peep from my CO (who was PS) after about 3 months and unlike some people here my take on everything is to hassle him as little as possible haha. I was planning on taking a trip to Australia so I just emailed telling him I was leaving the country and then just added into the e-mail - just wondering if you have received my medical results, and he replied yes and I don't need any further info. etc. I would genuinely not worry - if there is a problem they will be in touch otherwise just take it as no news is good news! My visa was granted in under 5 months and I think I exchanged 3 emails with my CO during the entire process (and each time it was just to inform him of travel plans and change of address!)
  4. I think this is true to some extent but I also feel that my visa was definitely granted earlier than it was meant to have been (not that I'm complaining haha). My CO just helped me out by granting it when I was taking an overseas trip (which was mentioned in my application so regardless of the visa I was going to be out of Australia at this time). He obviously just thought it made sense to grant it a couple of weeks early when I was out of the country rather than make me take another trip a few weeks later.
  5. Hi all. E-mailed my CO a few days ago (CO is PS) to remind him that I would be going to Thailand on Tuesday for 10 days for a friends wedding. He responded saying he is now in a position to grant my visa. Whoohooo!! So... applied May 10th 2012 visa granted September 27th 2012 (but need to leave Aus before I get it!)
  6. To be honest I think a lot of people here wouldn't have joint bank accounts unless it helped their visa application! My partner and I got one THREE months after we started going out - as if that would happen normally?! But now we are so glad that we did as we have almost been together two years and it obviously helped with our application. If you aren't looking to apply straight away I would definitely get one. As lebourvellec suggested I would definitely get some wills drawn up. If you can't prove you have lived together for 12 months you may have to get married in order for that requirement to be waived as from what I can remember that is one of the ABSOLUTE requirements of a defacto visa (except in special circumstances ie. if you'remarried or your partner is pregnant.)
  7. Haha very desperate/slightly creepy sounding title there - apologies! Little back story: I lived in Melbourne for around two years before moving to London with my boyfriend. We have just moved back to Melbourne after 12 months in the UK as the boy had to go back to work or face losing his job (which was kindly held for him for 12 months). We have applied for a defacto visa which is expected to be granted October/November. I am currently on an e-visitor and subsequently can't work. Although I've lived here before and have friends here they all have jobs so during the day I find myself at a bit of a loose end! I am 25 and from Surrey, UK and the boy is 24 and originally from Bendigo. We currently live in Docklands and would love to meet people in a similar situation. I would also love to meet anyone who has free time during the day haha. PM if you're interested in a catch up - perhaps a few of us could meet up for drinks in the city one night? Charlotte
  8. Hi Rimjim82! Is one of you Australian? I am a bit confused about whether you're applying for a defacto visa or a work one. If it is defacto I would suggest setting a joint bank account up asap registered to your address. Also any evidence that you share finances - perhaps highlight transfers on your individual bank statements to show that you both paid for things such as the Sky TV and BT bill. Do your bills that are in both of your names date back to a year or more ago? I don't think you need rental agreements etc. with both names on to prove you lived together but if you have bills in both of your names that date back to a year+ ago that show you were at the same address I think that would be OK. You can also back this up with stat decs from friends and family that you lived together (although I assume you're applying from the UK in which case the stat decs don't have any standing in Australia.) It's a tough one but just compile as much evidence as you can to prove you were at the same address. Sky TV and BT bill are a good start. Did you have any personal correspondence addressed to the two of you? Such as postcards, wedding invitations, etc? I've seen people in the same position have visas granted so just put your thinking cap on and compile as much evidence as you can!
  9. CONGRATS!! The spreadsheet is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aopvk3Y5mD7HdGp5V2hESFluN3V0QWNBTDg2TWJoLVE#gid=0
  10. Hellooo Well it has been a while since I've posted on here but my partner and I have just moved back to Melbourne. I am currently still on an e-visitor as my visa hasn't been granted yet but I e-mailed my case officer (PS) before we left to tell him of our plans and he said he didn't require any further information and reminded me it takes 5-6 months for visas to be granted. I have hardly had any communication with him as I didn't want to hassle him but I've sort of taken this as the green light that we're all good to go and it's now just a case of waiting... is it silly for me to assume this?! I just figured if there was a problem with the application we would have been interviewed or asked to comment on the problems. Getting excited now. And particularly excited to start working I am SO bored at home whilst the boy is out working haha.
  11. Aw thanks for this! I am planning in returning to Aus in August (on a tourist visa) as my boy needs to get back to work and we don't want to be apart so I may just wait until we've booked the flights to contact the CO and drop in that I trust everything is ok with the medical check! Thanks for the advice
  12. No no... I'm expecting it to take 5-6 months obviously I'm just surprised I haven't been contacted to say he didn't need anything more. Is what you meant above that you did your medical and then didn't hear anything for 5-6 months but when you did that was your visa granted? I just always thought they let you know when they didn't need anymore info.
  13. Oh really? I always thought they contacted you and said they don't need anymore info and then the long wait happens. Hopefully my CO is satisfied but just hasn't bothered to tell me! My application is pretty straightforward to be honest.
  14. Ergh I had my medical almost a month ago and I have not heard a peep from my CO. I don't really want to contact him particularly though but just wondering how long is too long! I was under the impression that once they ask for the medical they generally don't need anymore info...or is that not the case?
  15. I was just wondering how long people waited after getting their medical checks done before they heard anything from their COs?
