  3. You can get the fees for public waived, depending on how much you earn, we got ours waived, not sure what the limit to earnings is, but it's worth having a try. Link for excemption......http://www.detinternational.nsw.edu....-exemption.pdf
  4. we got the same letter last week, Luckily been able to get them excempt for another year, will have to get PR or move states before next year as I dont think we'll get it again...! I've put link below for those wanting to apply for an excemption; http://www.detinternational.nsw.edu....-exemption.pdf
  5. We live in Kellyville Ridge and its really nice here and the school my kids go to is great, they love it and and they have improved loads with there work since we arrived 7 months ago compared to how they was in the uk, we also have friends in kellyville and they love it there too....don't know what they mean by loads of crime...no more than other areas...espeically hornsby, although I here its nice there too..! If you have any questions, feel free to message me will gladly help...
  6. Thats because she's like me from Gods Country...Yorkshire..! where the water runs pure from the taps.. we found the Sydney water strange when we first arrived, but not as bad as yours sounds...we just put some in the fridge it seems to taste better when cold..!

  8. Thank you Ellie 2...I also forgot to mention we are here on the 457 visa, so get no hand outs other than been able to get the fees exempt..!
  9. We too got our fees for two children excempt, as we are only on my OH salary of about $60 k you have to enquire about it as they don'y advertise the fact you could be exempt...from what we was informed it's anything below $120k, so even when work picks up for me we will still be exempt hopefully...On your question of is $70 enough...well where not struggling like we did in the uk, we have a nice 4 bed house have more time with the kids and get out to some amazing places, Although I do need to get working..not only for my own sanity but would like to put some money away, Youv'e just got to do your research on areas to live and did you say you would get a company car that would save you loads as they are not cheap wot with rego, pink & green slips..! Anyway I hope you make a go for it...We've been here 5 months & other than missing family & friends we have no regrets
  10. Well I was'nt intending to tip the guys, But we've had two great guys from PSS packing yesterday & loading container today ( 3bed house & garage on there own ) We gave them plenty of tea & coffee, Biscuits & sandwiches, they worked really hard and did a great job, now I know it's there job but I felt obliged to give them £20 each, If they had been grumpy and just rammed things in I would'nt have bothered.
  11. Hi, have you thought about doing your final elective placement in Oz, my OH did this not only does it look good on your CV your chances of getting on a post grad course are higher as they get to see you in person, unfortunatley we were'nt ready to move straight away so couldnt accept the post she was offered. here to help if you have any other questions
  12. Hi can anybody reccomend any short term rentals/hotels for a family of 4,Until we can find a permanent rental, my OH will be working at the Royal North Shore Hospital so maybe something close to here, but dont mind a short commute as will have a hire car.
  13. We visited friends 2 years ago who live there, also on Flagstone estate and we thought it was a lovely place, they & there kids love it there, if we was moving to queensland it's a place we would go too, but where heading to sydney so it will be a nice holiday base to go to...
  14. Not sure what a 40ft costs, but we have a 20ft booked for Sydney with PSS for £4000, so would say your lower quotes sound about right are you shipping a car in the container or do you live in a mansion...lol as 40ft sounds big...we have a 4 bed house to move.! Think £10,000 is a bit much though.....Try PSS & John Mason as M2M said we did and they where the best, surveyors knew what they was talking about and gave sound advice on stuff we did'nt know.
  15. Yes if the company is already approved with diac to sponsor people, turn around can be quick, I've seen some on here waiting longer there is another thread on here about 457 prossessing times not sure how to link you in to it though...good luck
  16. Yaaaay...457 visa approved today.....Lodged 23/7/12...medicals 30/7/12.....approved 02/08/12, house sale to complete next week then flights to book SYDNEY Here we come...! :ssign19:
  17. Hi Pob, We got our visas approved today, lodged them on 23/7/12, medicals 30/7/12 approved today 02/8/12 My wife had to have medical as she is a nurse, only need them if your in health care or teaching in schools, and I had to have police check as i was a naughty boy when I was younger lol, so only need them if you have ever been in trouble & no english test if first language is english.[ hope this helps QUOTE=pob;1935920152]So we were just about to give up when the company that we were talking to is all of a sudden very interested. They are talking about fast tracking us over to oz. So how long does it take to get a 457 visa and how fast is fast tracked? Just to make sure we are all on the same page 457 is company sponsored visa? Oh and do we have to take a medical or police checks or an English test?
  18. Hi Jo123, Did you apply for exemption while in the UK or did you have to do it on arrival in Oz, If so how long did it take..!

    royal brunei

Not sure how much singapore is compared to brunei, but I would personally go with singapore, we flew a return flight with Brunei to brisbane a couple of years ago, the plane was ok plenty of entertainment films etc, hostesses where not very happy & they would wake you up if you was asleep for the food which was horrid, kids didnt eat for 23hrs, brunei airport where you would stop off is small & horrible dont ever want to land there again, also there is praying to allah for the plane to have a safe flight & landing on the speakers when taking off & landing, does'nt give you much confidance in the plane..lol Oh and I forgot to mention most important bit, Its a dry flight, no alcohol, muslim airline...so if you like a drink dont go Brunei..!
  20. Hi could anyone tell me any nice areas to live within 20 to 40 mins from Crows Nest for a family with 2 children 7 & 10 We have looked at a few places but unsure what they are like & if the schools are any good. Places we've looked at so far are Mount colah, Wahroonga, Carlingford, Quakers Hill & The Ponds any help on these or other places will be much appreciated. Looking to pay between $500 & $700 per week on rental, prefer a 4 bed.
  21. Does anybody know why it is only ACT & NSW charge 457 visa holders to send there kids to school, we will be coming out to Sydney in Aug/Sept this year with two children aged 7 & 9 at $4500 each this will take a huge chunk out of our savings, I know you can apply to get them exempt but has anybody been know to have actually got them exempt..!!! Will be applying for PR as soon as we can so we won't have to pay the fees. Also can anyone reccomend any good schools/areas to live, my OH will be working at North Shore Hospital, don't mind a 30-40 minute commute....have been looking at mount colah, wahroonga area...!
  22. Hi could someone tell me when I should apply for police checks, employer has applied for visa nomination, just awaiting on TRN to start visa application. do the checks need to be sent directly to immigration or to me, not sure if I should wait until asked to do them or get them done to speed up the process. I know they will ask for me to work as a nurse Hope someone can help..!
  23. Do I need to get my skills assessed and get a licence to work as a self employed bricklayer sub-contracting or doing my own small jobs, not sure on the rules ! I know I will need to get a white card and register with tax office ( ABN ) I will be coming over on my wifes 457 visa as she's a nurse, so I don't need to get skills assessed for visa. I have over 20 years experience with city & Guilds advanced craft cert, 4 year apprenticeship
  24. Thanks all for the advice...halfway through cleaning now..hopefully get it all finished at the weekend.! I'm sure I will be glad I did it when it all arrives in Oz.
  25. Hi, have any builders/bricklayers shipped there own used tools out, if so how clean is clean, do you have to get every bit of dried cement & grout of your tools or is it just soil & loose sand there worried about. I've only just started cleaning my tools and it's starting to do my head in :arghh:, makes me wonder if it would be best just to buy new if i'm going to possibly get charged for having them cleaned cleaner than i've managed to get them
