The British friends I've made here have all said their farming work was where they made the most money and the best friends. I'm still reluctant to do my farm work, and if you saw my manicure you would understand.

Jobs on a WHV are only supposed to supplement your travels, that's why I took a 'lesser' job than I had back home. I have not come here looking for a career because that is almost completely unachievable. I am sorry you feel this way because I think Sydney is amazing, I didn't come here expecting it to be like the UK.

Well in my experience I really was just the better option, don't mean to blow my own trumpet but I have a few years of experience within the same company in the UK which is more than any Aussie could possibly have since the company is brand new in Oz. not luck in my case, just 4 years of hard work back in the UK.

And my point is that the citizens should try a bit harder because an employer is only going to hire the best candidate. WHV people make a lot of money for the country, we are essentially tourists after all. I got my job over Aussies in a group interview, because I was the best option.

I really don't agree with this, if Aussies can't get jobs they should maybe try a bit harder. Employees should hire people on ability. There is no such thing as 'job stealing'. I have been lucky in getting a job so quickly but I took a big step down from what I was doing at home. I know that no company would hire me for a management role because of my work restrictions so I am grateful for the minimum wage job that I have, even though I wouldn't have applied for it at home.

I think it's part of the sharia to spread the word of the Qur'an and try to achieve domination so everyone will go to heaven. This unfortunate crowd are just incredibly INSANE about it. They truly believe they will win, that's why they want to be in the UK. They are thankfully a minority. One of the lovely Muslims I met who told me nice things about the Qur'an, I thought it was quite sweet that he was gently trying to convince me it was the way to live my life so I would be 'saved'. If someone told me I looked 'naked in the street' or like I was 'trying to seduce everyone' I think I would have reacted just like Stacey Dooley did in that video. But I think the best thing to do is probably ignore them.

This is disturbing, thankfully every Muslim I have met has been really lovely. One guy told me some stories from the Qur'an (because I asked, he was not preaching) and it seems like a peaceful religion that does not match up to what those imbeciles in the video are saying. If it wasn't so frightening I would have laughed when that protester said they were marching against oppression, sharia law sounds very oppressive indeed and in a way I pity the extremists, especially the women.

I got the first job I applied for, I'm very lucky! Since I arrived a month ago during winter, I think this was a real advantage because most WHV people come in summer. I applied for my job just before the kids got off school so they were desperate for new staff (I work in tourism) I also am a casual events assistant, $22 an hour to work whenever I fancy so doing an RSA course is so worth it to be able to work with alcohol xx

I have no advice but I just wanted to say I really, really hope you get sorted. This brought tears to my eyes, can't even imagine how stressful this must be.

It was beautiful today, I went for a walk in the Royal Botanic gardens & on my way there saw a drunkard spewing in Hyde Park. Delicious. He had the manners to move away from his friend to do so, and as a result was inches away from me.

I want some girlie friends I've been here for about 3 weeks now & I love it. I'm 22 and came here alone, haven't really met anyone so far.

Yea Newtown is great, I walk to the station & just hop on the train to Town Hall to get to Darling Harbour so my current location isn't tooooo bad! Thanks I will check it out

I brought a suitcase and a large travel bag since I am staying in one place & had a 46kg allowance! It is very cheap to buy basic clothing items so I brought all my favourite fancy things knowing I could buy cheap tshirts & stuff as I needed them. I bought locks for my bags too, and the hostel I stayed in at first had locked cupboards but you had to provide your own lock xx

Theres not much wrong with Marrickville, I live very close to Newtown which is ace! Just don't like this house at the minute I pay $150 a week but could afford $300.
