  1. Like a lot of people the 457 visa has been a life line to secure jobs in Australia with the best chance to become PR when they have the skilled trade experience Australia is looking for but can't go through the usual skilled trades visa system because of the age restrictions. Like most people going through this visa system and maybe a little ignorance where the labour rules are implied I would have thought it to be an exceptance of the norm citizens and PR would automatically be first in the que other countries do, so please all I can ask is yes make it harder for the system to be abused, but open fora path the genuine trades who can't get through other than 457 visa.
  2. Hi Mine took only a month most go through fairly quick, I am still waiting for sponsor to find a placement as they are an agent, but jobs for foreign workers has taken a turn for the worse on the 457 visa. Hopefully the situation will change very soon good luck you should be over there soon
  3. Hi I would suggest you go to a few seminars held in London Manchester and a few other places, some people do get sponsors this way, there are recruitment agencies who recruit over here every year, one I have been able to get a job offer and sponsored visa through is Tempo Industry Partners might be worth a look see if it is of use good luck
  4. Tempo Industrial Partners usually start a recruitment process in the UK around now, but they are based in WA and the work will be in WA worth a look at thier web site see if there is something to suit your needs. good luck
  5. Hi We are in the same boat over 50 our children except 1 will be staying here but one day they might just come over,we thought there is no chance now but we was offered a 457 visa sponsorship hoping to go to Perth the visa was granted last May, because at present there has been some issues regarding foriegn labour being brought in instead of using local labour first which I think is quite right, this has delayed getting over to OZ all we can do is keep fingers crossed it will be soon and this issue with labour will be sorted, we have friends in Port Kennedy and we will be looking for places from Bibra lakes down to Port Kennedy, but you are right the info available has been a god send on PIO. so thanks to all. I have lived in Brisbane before so Perth will be different looking forward to getting there. Good luck with your move hope you enjoy every minute.
  6. Hi AJ I know where you are coming from you have made it more than clear in previous mail, my only problem being is I am past 50 and this is the only way I can get back to Australia by having a sponsor through a 457visa which I can add I do have the visa granted and issue number, so at least the agency have gone that far, also 17 from the original 27 recruited at the same time have already been found placements, the rest have been unfortunate me included to have landed in a time when foriegn labour has had to except the situation, again I think it is right local labour where possible should be utalised first. All I can hope now is that the agency finally come up with the goods or I have to kiss my dream goodbye and try an alternative.
  7. Hi all I am a boilermaker, Had hoped to have been over in Perth by now visa granted last May but sponsor company are waiting for the labour market to change as there has been some uproar over foriegn labour getting jobs before local labour is used first, well I am 100% backing any local labour in any country having first refusal on jobs this is only fair, I am sure Canada have this policy when contracts start. Any way question is can anyone say for certain the issue's have been resolved and the labour market has started to move again? I would like to think my chances of getting over very soon are looking good?
  8. Hi I lived in Brisbane a few years back had no problems finding work as a boilermaker, there was at least 2_3 jobs a day advertised in the Courier paper and the Sun news paper, there are many FIFO jobs further north I have friends working this way earning a good living in QLD as long as the rotation is family friendly you should be in a good position. Good luck hope it works out ok for you all, I am hoping to be back over this year very soon but over in Perth have my 457 visa just waiting for agent to provide a placement with a local company anywhere in WA
  9. Industrial Partners an employment agent actually now called Tempo IP they recruit tradesmen from the UK every year usually engineering trades people, they will be recruiting around the February time
  10. Hi To all those who have sat patiently for a start date through IP and now have been told it is not going to happen till 2013( I hope IP are true to thier word)? and we will be In Perth before they start their next recruitment drive in 2013. WISHING YOU ALL A MERRY CHRISTMAS! and lets hope a perfect new years start over in oz, :angel_happy_face_ha
  11. I guess our situation we have no choice visa granted before July dead line which still allows us to apply for PR, we had banked on being there this year but we have to keep a happy outlook on actually getting a sponsor and with fingers crossed we will be out in Australia in the new year can only hope it is not to long a wait in 2013 keep intouch all as we have said before maybe we can all sit an have a cold one somewhere in Perth
  12. have been intouch with Dave Scotty one hang up the visa I have issued before july 1st allows me to apply for PR if I transfer or go on another sponsor then I am going to have problems with the age limit although there is no age limit with a 457 sponsor but a employers sponsor from July 1st after 2 years which we could have applied for PR there is a 50 age limit so we are basically stuck as we do want to apply for PR asap on arrival, bit of a pain but as long as we get over early in the new year we will be happy just hope it wont drag on longer
  13. Well I have finally been told the same IP are unable to find a placement till the new year pretty crap really been waiting since May when visa was granted, I have asked why they are unable to locate places for the remaining trades still waiting? when there are hundreds of jobs being advertised even with companies IP have already enquired with also many of the areas expecially in the North of WA again where IP have been trying to secure places, makes you wonder since the merger what exactly is going on well all we can do now is hope they are true to thirer word and find places in the new year
  14. Hi mate I have secured a 457 visa sponsor along with several others unfortunately there are a few problems in the mining and oil&gas refineries projects shelved amongst other hiccups which has meant a few of us are having to wait till early 2013, this company is called Tempo Industrial Partners the have a web site and recruit staff here in the UK every year so might be worth a look, good luck hope you make it over, I was hoping to be there already but just have to wait a while longer should be out early late jan/Feb
  15. Hi spent awhile in Adelaide as a kid my parents use to say I put alsorts of creatures in my pockets and brought them home and many a time the were snakes and yes poisonous ones, then later I returned to Oz lived in Brisbane see lots of snakes but believe me they were off in the other direction quicker than I could move, you have to learn the country code do things in a certain way and you will never have a problem, back again soon cant wait, and to stay this time
  16. Jobs I know of Specialized welding nr Welshpool, Hendersons ship yard and Savannah engineering have 3 workshops up in North WA hope that helps, I am hoping to be over soon just waiting for a placement through an agency to come up had hoped to have been there in June but still waiting had a 457visa granted in May the waiting is getting fraut to say the leastgood luck hope you find something
  17. There should have been a meeting with clients and IP this week but not had an update yet will be e-mailing them on Monday to see what is happening as there's no point over the weekend I think it is time we all started to push the issue of the length of time they are taki9ng to find placements when there appears to be lots of work out there for boilermakers all trades really lets hope we find out some news next week ???
  18. Hi we have been to 3 yes we did get the info we wanted and yes there are plenty of opportunities to apply to companies that attend for possible work or sponsorship in my opinion it is worth going expecial if partner needs to look at whats available for them too.
  19. might be worth going along to one of the employment seminars they hold regularly up and down the country as well as state sponsorship there are other companies that attend these seminars such as oil and gas mining and heavy earth moving machinery companies depending on where you live as to the nearest but worth going along check web sites for living in Oz or moving to Oz something will come up for these seminar dates and places good luck
  20. Hi AJ Industry Partners recruit every year in the UK we have all 27 of us signed contracts 17 have been found placements and yes you are right untill they find a placement we have to wait they are a recruitment agency supplying trades for the mining and oil&gas industries they are sponsoring us on a 457 visa once we have completed 15 months with them we are re-embursed our flights and removal costs they have already paid for the visa and all of us have been had the visa granted.
  21. No joy with specialized welding not sure what it was they wanted they asked for boilermakers but then no news there is a meeting with another client next week apparently to see how many staff they want to take on and about accomodation as it is up in Newman rentals cheapest $1500 a week so I am hoping it will be FIFO IP are a bit reluctant to build up our hopes just incase they get dashed which has happened several times so this time I think a wait and see what IP can come up with on this one as soon as I here will let all know although it would be good if there are several of us going at the same time on this one ??
  22. Hi Tids I am a boilermaker did not have to do any tests I already hold Australian trade recognition papers from living in Brisbane 20 years ago wish I never came back then, due to age I have to use the 457 visa route as there is no age limit. might be worth as you being a welder to check at Australia house the Strand london as to where you can take a test for your license? but I have always been under the impression all your certificates once verified here and once in Oz your trade recognised at the dept of employment then you are free to seek employment anywhere ??
  23. Hi Craig I am using partners post, I am on the verge of going to Perth on a 457 visa through tempo Industry partners they normally recruit in the UK twice a year I had an interview in Feb offered a place in March visa granted May, although it has taken some time since then to secure a placement I am still hoping to be out very soon looking forward to going It would be worth you checking thier web site as they should be due to recruit again early next year if they are not already, criteria is if they offer a job once you fill in application for visa which industry partners have thier own immigration agent this should not take long but the time it takes to find a placement could take a while initially you have to go for 3 months trial then partner and family are added to visa later, you have to pay for the flight costs and removal costs but IP re-emburse after 15 months, there are many other companies just have to look click on 457 visa jobs or go to a seminar for Oz definately worth a visit take partner with you there is a lot of info at these that will help. Good luck if you try IP let us know how you get on.. There were 27 tradesmen offered work in March on a sponsorship with IP 17 have placements just 10 waiting to go wont be long:biggrin:
  24. Sent callum an e-mail yesterday asking for an update hopefully will hear back shortly he usually answers promptly just asking about the recruitment drive see if anything has materialized from that probably have to wait a week minimum to see if there are any results, he does keep stating he will get us there that is a promise when he has replied to my previous e-mails and I usually send one every other week for an update, I can see us being out before Christmas but the big but will be the 3 month trial which is going to run past xmas just hope families can cope with our absence guess as I said before Christmas day will be 25th Jan next year Hey ho! as this is my last chance to get back to OZ I feel this time because of this waiting game we have no choice but sacrifice the inevitable my partner and I are not happy about it but to achieve our goal just getting there its a small price to pay we can make up for it we will all be better off in the long run thats why we made this choice to go chin up folks we will be there soon
