  1. Hi we have a mortgage with Santander, advised them we were emigrating but liked to rent our house out, we had to pay £200 for consent but no changes in the monthly payments and no limit on the amount of years we can rent the house out for, so we were made up with this. We also have to send the tax form off about the rent, I think it's called nr11. Nicola
  2. Hi, I have a customer in maffra, it's a typical Aussie town.. It's like marmite, you will either love it or hate it. if its the later, at least you will be in the country to make the move nearer the city or the beach. Just bear in mind if it's not for you, then try somewhere else before moving back to the uk, it's just like the difference between living in a quiet town in Cornwall or a city suburb in Manchester. The choice is yours and the lifestyle is very different between the two. Good luck
  3. I just wonder if this site is actually overrun by Australians trying to keep the British out, yes Australia is not the paradise that many want to believe, but as a middle income family who's quality of life in the uk was crap because our disposable income was systematically erroded by the uk system to the point where the Aus move was the only feesable way of getting more family time and less of the "ships passing in the night" scenario we had found ourselves in. If your reading this in the uk, come with an open mind and really understand what you want in life and if the Australian life could meet them requirements, give it a go. We come here with the attitude of giving it a real go, going to meet ups and determined to make it work, yes the first few months have been tough at times. But I am in no doubt if we do turn round and come back, then we can say we really tried to make it work.. We are living in Melbourne and all cities are different, but life is great here and we are so glad we made the move. At the moment the only time we will go back is for a holiday. Give it a go... Your a long time dead and yes it might cost you a stack of money, but you can't take it with you.
  4. Hi, we have also recently moved to Melbourne, we have two boys 5 & 2, I understand where you are coming from as my eldest son was used to school and now nothing till february, trying to entertain them can be a nightmare!!! We live on the east side in lyndhurst, we do like it but in a year when our lease is up, we might move to Berwick as this is meant to more friendly surburb. You should join the sister site life in Victoria, the people on there are lovely and very helpful plus they also arrange a few meet ups, one was last week at Albert park. There are a few poms in the altona area. Good luck and if you ever what to meet up let me know thanks Nicola.

  7. Hi, I'm in the process of moving to Melbourne in July and just started to get quotes for shipping our stuff, we have a ride on jeep 12v battery that we would of preferred to take, however one of the shipping company said yes no problem and then the other said I would recommend not to as you need a permit and have to fill in lots of paper work. Does anyone have any advise? Also anyone used 1st international move company as they have come in cheap for shipping our stuff. Thanks Nicola
