  1. Hi we have a mortgage with Santander, advised them we were emigrating but liked to rent our house out, we had to pay £200 for consent but no changes in the monthly payments and no limit on the amount of years we can rent the house out for, so we were made up with this. We also have to send the tax form off about the rent, I think it's called nr11. Nicola
  2. Hi, I have a customer in maffra, it's a typical Aussie town.. It's like marmite, you will either love it or hate it. if its the later, at least you will be in the country to make the move nearer the city or the beach. Just bear in mind if it's not for you, then try somewhere else before moving back to the uk, it's just like the difference between living in a quiet town in Cornwall or a city suburb in Manchester. The choice is yours and the lifestyle is very different between the two. Good luck
  3. I just wonder if this site is actually overrun by Australians trying to keep the British out, yes Australia is not the paradise that many want to believe, but as a middle income family who's quality of life in the uk was crap because our disposable income was systematically erroded by the uk system to the point where the Aus move was the only feesable way of getting more family time and less of the "ships passing in the night" scenario we had found ourselves in. If your reading this in the uk, come with an open mind and really understand what you want in life and if the Australian life could meet them requirements, give it a go. We come here with the attitude of giving it a real go, going to meet ups and determined to make it work, yes the first few months have been tough at times. But I am in no doubt if we do turn round and come back, then we can say we really tried to make it work.. We are living in Melbourne and all cities are different, but life is great here and we are so glad we made the move. At the moment the only time we will go back is for a holiday. Give it a go... Your a long time dead and yes it might cost you a stack of money, but you can't take it with you.
  4. Hi, we have also recently moved to Melbourne, we have two boys 5 & 2, I understand where you are coming from as my eldest son was used to school and now nothing till february, trying to entertain them can be a nightmare!!! We live on the east side in lyndhurst, we do like it but in a year when our lease is up, we might move to Berwick as this is meant to more friendly surburb. You should join the sister site life in Victoria, the people on there are lovely and very helpful plus they also arrange a few meet ups, one was last week at Albert park. There are a few poms in the altona area. Good luck and if you ever what to meet up let me know thanks Nicola.
  5. Hi, my mum is moving to Adelaide been offered 457 visa and will be working in area of Fullerton, prospect and klemzig. Can you recommend any areas she should be looking to live. Also her work keep suggesting to live in the city so she can use public transport which is making her feel uneasy . Her other problem is she doesn't have a furniture for about 3 months, can anybody recommend any reasonable furnished short term rentals till she can find something plus gets her furniture. She has been looking but they cost around $800 per week a bit too much!!! thanks nicola
  6. Hi, we get our rental on Saturday and our own furniture doesn't arrive until another 14 days, does anyone know anybody selling some furniture like fridge freezer, tv, tv unit, corner sofa or sofa, bunk beds or anything else. Thanks Nicola
  7. Hi, I'm in the process of moving to Melbourne in July and just started to get quotes for shipping our stuff, we have a ride on jeep 12v battery that we would of preferred to take, however one of the shipping company said yes no problem and then the other said I would recommend not to as you need a permit and have to fill in lots of paper work. Does anyone have any advise? Also anyone used 1st international move company as they have come in cheap for shipping our stuff. Thanks Nicola
  8. Hi, thank you for your help, we wouldn't be looking to move for a lavish lifestyle, just to be able to live comfortable and enjoy the australian outdoors, having fun with our children. I do feel better now after reading your posts just need to find a nice house in a nice area thats not too much. we have started looking around sandhurst, lynbrook and aspendale as the rent is more reasonable for what you get. I thought we were going to be on a 457 visa so will need to speak to them about the other visa. Thanks
  9. My OH has also been offered a job in melbourne on the eastern side near forrest hill, we are due to fly out in a couple of weeks to get the feeling and have a look around the area and local schools. After our trip his company will then apply for visa's, once these have been approved should hopefully move in August. My OH is eletrical & electronic field based engineer and he has been offered $70,000 aus plus a yearly bonus,a company car with fuel included, they have also advised they will take payment of the rental from his salary before tax. This will include Healthcare Insurance but not sure about superanunation so will need to check this. Can anyone give us some advise if this will be enough for a family of four, as I will not be working straight away until the kids haved settled, they are only 4 & 2 then I will be looking for part time work.

  11. Hi, I was wondering if anybody can give me some help, I'm moving over in Melbourne around August and would like my mum to make the move to Australia aswell. She is registered nurse in medical and elderly care with over 25 yrs experience, what would be her chances of getting a sponsorship 457 visa, the only problem she is 59 but is in good health and whats to carry on with work till retirement.
  12. Hi, Been looking into the areas suggested nearby to Forrest Hill but finding the more you go out the more value for money you get in rented. Any areas you recommend abit further out? Whats Rowville like? Need somewhere with good schools. Thanks Nicola
  13. Hi, we are currently in the process of moving to Melbourne on a 457 visa that my husband company is processing for us, we are a family of four, however I would like my mum to move with us. My mum is 60yrs old this september and is currently a high grade nurse manager for over 25yrs and also has qualifications for being a project manager with experience. She is also not really wanting to retire anytime soon as she loves doing her job. Can anybody advise us what would be the best way to apply for a visa and also is there an age limit as I worried with her being nearly 60yrs old. Thanks Nicola
  14. Thanks Joand Jon, Thats really good info and having had a quick look at Heathmount it looks promising. Do you mind me asking how much it cost to get your Dog over as we have a boxer which would be the same size as yours. Many Thanks Steve and Nic
