  1. Defo get a letter on headed paper from your estate agent( if you sell through one) in the UK and proof of funds ( bank statement from the uk bank or Australian bank) and we had references on paper and email from friends in the UK to say we are clean tiday people and keep our house tidy etc Also we set up a bank account on line when we were still in the UK and transferred some money over in to it in Australia and our bank manager here in OZ gave us a letter to say we had funds in the bank which helped to secure a rental. Good luck with everything.
  2. we have a 7 yr old son and would love to cool off in the summer but just dont want to be hit with stupidly high bills!!! and then thinking about the other months in winter when the pool isnt in use but the elecricity still has to be on for it!!!!!
  3. We live in Queensland and are looking at 3 bed rentals with pools for $600 pw and houses with no pools for $500 pw and then i know there will be water costs and electricity bills on top but i just dont want to regret getting a house with a pool if the elec and water bills are going to cripple u on top of the big rent.... Does anyone know of rough electricity costs for a pool and a 3 bed house with only us and our young son. We have had a bill for the apartment we are in now and it was $380 for 90 days!!!.:arghh:
  4. Hi there was wondering if i should apply for a ABN. Im thinking of doing some work here and will prob earn around $200 ish dollars a week before tax......is it worth getting an ABN ? , not sure what to do and want to make sure i do things right. Can anyone help with advice please ? Thankyou
  5. we got a personal loan through NAB after been here for 3 weeks!!! and it was for quite a bit to buy 2 cars- we did have a bank account set up with them just before we moved out here.....was so suprised we could get one so soon as my hubby had no payslips yet but proof of income ( work contract).... and we are on a 457.
  6. I had an operation 3 months after we got to Queensland from the uk and i came with an existing condition( which was diagnosed 2 weeks before we flew out to Queensland) and i saw my gp in OZ which was bulk billing and was referred to a consultant at the public hospital and the only thing i paid for was the scans....my operation and the consultant appts were free... just had to pay for the prescriptions...
  7. Hi there We live in Tannum and have been here for 5 months now and like it very much. My son goes to Tannum primary school and now likes it ( didnt for a while) but he's doing good now. Glen Eden is between Tannum and Gladstone, personally in my opinion from what i have seen i am not that keen on it and there doesnt seem much to do...at least with Tannum or Boyne you have the beach on your doorstep and some nice play areas for the kids.....if you have any questions private message me and i will help you with anything you need to know.
  8. Or have a look at Tannum sands beach house. We stayed there for a month before we secured a place..
  9. If you are on facebook search on there for realestate Gladstone.....someone on there may be able to help you..
  10. Can relate to everything you said as we had the same experience with them...and after several annoying and frustrating calls to them we could only have the landline!!!!! not useful as we were not approved for the internet as they f'd it up !!!! we offered to pay upfront and still couldnt and wouldnt help us so we then went with Iprimus and they have been very good...no issues.
  11. Good luck with everything, everything you are about to do car, house rented, ebay etc....i can relate to all that as we did it in jan this year and it is stressfull but bloodywell worth it. One tip about your car is when you are selling it dont tell the potential buyers that you are emigrating as they know you are desperate to sell and will offer you peanuts...but if you do slip up and tell them just say that if it doesnt sell you are leaving it with a family member to sell for you after you have gone. All the best, Millers
  12. We came to Australia with John Masons and they were more or less correct with the cubic measurements we needed ( infact they were a little over on the estimate) and provided good hard working people to pack all our stuff in one day...we were happy and would recommend.and all our stuff arrived in one piece.
  13. cant see anything on the handwritten ticket to say i got points...there doesnt seem to be anything on the ticket to say about points!!! oh well have to wait and see
  14. Hi All Just got stopped for speeding on one veeeerrrryyyyyy long road in Queensland, i was doing 129 kms in a 100kms zone...and subsequently got a ticket for $333.....but the officer said no mention of points on my licence......should i expect some ?????? wasnt asked to produce any documents at the police station or anything.......what does anyone think????:arghh::cry:

  17. Hi mate, I ain't got the "skills" as I'm in retail management so would need to be employer sponsored. What's the criteria for me / them to meet? Presumably it's only valid for permanent residency whilst I'm sponsored......?
  18. Thanks for the quick reply- what is ENS? thanks
  19. Hi All After a bit of advice... We have come over to Australia on a company sponsored 457 Visa in mid-Feb but would like to gain permanent residency status. Some people have told me I need to wait 2 years whilst others have said I can apply straight away if my company sponsors me. Which is correct? How do I go about it? Any criteria I need to meet? Thanks Dave
  20. Hi All and thanks for your feedback. Just an update for you....i had to go in to hospital on wednesday for an operation so our meeting with the head teacher has been postponed till im better and recovered fully. But whilst i was in hospital for a few daylast week my hubby was taking our son to school and collecting him and what an amazing difference a week makes......our son got a certificate in parade on Thurs ( the day we should have had our meeting) for good behaviour and good work/ handwriting.........is this a coincidence ( maybe the head told he's teacher we asked for a meeting)???hhhmmmnnnnn..............he's teacher spoke briefly to my hubby on Thurs to say she is happier with he's work etc...........and she said continue with whatever your doing at home because its working ( but we havent done anything different)!!!!! Hmmmmm....only time will tell.
  21. Thanks for all your advice...will request a meeting with the principal and see how we get on....the teachers dont seem very sympathetic with the big move we have had and the change in countries, schools, friends etc.....and for god sake he is 7yrs old today ( bless him) i feel so bad with this pressure on us to settle him in. thanks again
  22. Hi We have been here in Queensland for almost 4 months now and my son started school 10 days after we got here. He first went in to grade 2 and the teachers monitored him and decided to move him down to grade 1 as he was struggling and to be fair he was one of the youngest in Grade 2, so he is now in grade 1 and still not having such a great time and things are starting to get worse. He's teacher who has been at the school for 25 yrs seems to not be happy with anything he does.....he has untidy writing, short attention span and gets easily distracted, and doesnt seem to want to do writing sat at a desk.( he would rather be outside learning about stuff which interests him) an she also asked me if i was doing homework with him every night....as the spellings he gets on a monday i learn with him every night for the test on a friday, he doesnt seem to be doing too well and she also questioned me about he's reading( he gets a new book every night to read with me) and he reads them fine( with the odd long word i have to help him with)...and then over the last few days he has not been wanting to go in to school and making uo excuses( which he hasnt done before). In the UK he was in YR 2 and was doing really well with a young teacher and we never had any issues!!!! so me and my husband are beside ourselves as what to do about this..... Has anyone been in the same situation as us ? i am even considering paying for a tutor at home to do 1 to 1 teaching with him.......... If anyone has any advice i would apprecitate it.....:arghh: Many Thanks
  23. we have been here for 3 months and decided not to take out an private health insurance...we just regostered with Medicare when we got here. I have had to have a couple of ultrasound scans and have had to pay for them but then you go to the medicare office and get approx 50% refund back there and then. I am due to have a small operation next week and its in a public hospital and so far i have been impressed with the public system...alot less waiting around than in the UK. I will not have to pay for anything next week for my op but jut my scans. Also- when i registered with a local doctors surgery here it was "bulk billing" which means that you dont pay anything to see the doctor( the bill goes straight to medicare)...some do bulk, some do partial ( so you would have to pay some). I hear dentists are expensive here but not needed to go yet. Hope this helps you...good luck with the move
  24. Have you looked at Gladstone? loads of mines out here and crying out for work.
