  1. were travelling through Hong Kong airport on our way back to the UK and we have a 7 hr layover and was thinking about using the lounges that you pay for......is it worth the $160 for 3 hours for a family of 3 ?? Thanks Virginia Ps- Cathay Pacific luggage allowance is only 20KG each !!!! OMG- that should be interesting
  2. We used John Mason and they were really good. Although my son had a 36V battery quad bike that we were shipping over to OZ and no one mentioned anything to us that we would need a import permit!!! until our stuff arrived in Brisbane !!! quite a bit of hassle trying to sort that out !! and eventually JM covered the costs of the permit and storage fees for the quad until it was sorted out !!!
  3. Hi people Myself and family are going back to the UK for a month next June and want some advice on mobile phones ( we have 2 Telstra ones over here in OZ) and we want be able to communicate the cheapest way possible for a month in Manchester. Does anyone recommend buying a cheap phone/ borrow one off friends and do pay as you go with a cheap sim card ? is that an option ??? Thanks peeps Virginia:arghh:

  5. Thanks Maggie. Thanks for the link to medicals - I had looked here but must have missed it or it has just been updated on 28 July.... I have submitted everything I believe we need except the medicals, which we will now arrange asap. The link to the document checklist wouldn't work so I had to find a link on the front page to find what I did and didn't need to submit so hopefully got it all right. How long did your decision take once you'd put everything in? Did you have any contact at all from the case officer, or was it simply a case of "here's your visa?" Thanks D:confused:
  6. Hi We've been in Aus for 2.5 years and my employer has sponsored me so that I can get permament residency on a 186 visa. I'm just looking for advice on the following if anyone can help.... How do I know if I have submitted all the documents required? Is this only when my case officer makes contact...? When should we get medicals? How do I find out list of approved places for medicals? The link on immigration website directs me to a list of countries if you are outside Aus but I can't find a list of ones in Australia Thanks in advance Dave
  7. Does anyone have the telephone number for the doctors in Rockhampton please to do our medicals ? Thanks
  8. Thanks for your help guys...its a minefield, form filling!!!!!!!! Our old passports have long gone so no luck with dates of hols so have to wing it!! and my wife has had quite a lot of jobs since she left school which is proving to be difficult to remember the dates etc !!!!!!! surely were not the only ones with this drama of dates!!!!
  9. Hi Just wondered if anyone had any knowledge of the following - Is form 80 to be filled in just for any additional visa applicants, or is it for the main applicant as well? - On form 80, it asks you to fill in day month year travel times for holidays etc You can't leave the day blank but I have no record of exact dates of travel. How should I proceed? Thanks Dave

we bought a new washing machine and brought it over with us and I would not recommend it.....our AEG machine didn't work from the day it arrived to us here in OZ shipped from the UK and then the warranty was void as it was a European brand!! we couldn't even get anyone to come out and have a look at it ( and we was prepared to pay) !!! so my advice is buy here in OZ and also you wont have to mess around changing plugs!!! but I would bring a Dyson vac with you ( if you have one) as they are soooooo expensive over here!!
  11. Just got an email from my hubbys employer to inform us that the nomination for our 186 visa has been approved(yey!!! it took 3 months). We can now proceed and lodge our visa application now that we have a case officer..... things are happening slowly. UPDATE-Submitted application 11/07/14 and paid the $$$$ now we have a case officer..things are finally happening.
  12. Yes all moved out in Feb and the real estate didn't even notice the blinds were half broken!!! lol:wink:
  13. Thanks for the info- we haven't had medicals yet.....is that something we need to chase up with my husbands employer or do we just sit tight and wait?
  14. Yesterday my hubbys employer emailed us to inform us that they have lodged our nomination under the Employer Nomination Scheme Visa Subclass 186. So its all happening now....we are currently on a 457 ( been in Oz just over 2 yrs) and wondering how long this process can possibly take......I suppose its like asking how long is a piece of string!!! lol:err:

  16. Ahh ok.....I also seen the UK house prices are going up so maybe a good time to sell....?? I would say it depends on if you want a $3000 banger or if you want to buy something decent ish for $10.000.......you will need bond money for a rental ( 4 weeks rent in advance ) so depends on how much properties are where you plan to move to.....have a look on Realestate.com to give you an idea. Are you shipping furniture over ??? you may need to buy some cheap stuff when you 1st arrive or rent a furnished place....
  17. How long was the process for you from applying to getting the visa granted ? also after the 2 yrs of staying with your employer can you then change employer? we are just in the early stages of applying for a 186 through my husbands company... Thanks
  18. Hi there We have been in a rental house for 16 months and are moving out soon. In our sons bedroom the wooden blinds got wet one day when I was out at work and the window was left open and the rain came in through the flyscreen and wet the blinds....I wiped them but now they are stained and are peeling and don't look good.......im not sure where we stand with the real estate when she does her exit inspection........is it classed as wear and tear ???? or will she make us replace them ???? anyone had a similar experience? and what was your outcome?? im going to call the RTA tomorrow but just wondered if anyone can advise me.:arghh: Thanks in advance
  19. we rent our properties out in the UK through agents and also our friends/ neighbours keep me posted which is good. It does depend on what Visa you are coming here on. We are on a 457 and are half way through our 4 yrs here and atm are in the process of applying for PR. If we get PR we will go back to the UK for a holiday and put our houses up for sale and then have some cash to eventually buy a place over here. If you are on a 457 I would rent out in the UK and definitely go through an agent and ask neighbours / friends to regularily update you on the goings on/ condition of gardens etc of your house. If you like it here and settle then sell in the UK. Don't put all your eggs in one basket just yet.
  20. Thanks for the info. I will look in to it
  21. Hi everyone My hubby and I are looking at applying for PR after 2 yrs here. He's employer has said they will sponsor us and pay half the costs. They have emailed us the information we need to provide and im just wondering how you start the process of getting an Original Australian National Police Check clearance certificate and also an Original overseas penal clearance police check ( is this a CRB ) ? Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks Millers:err:
