  1. Hi Pete and Marg, thanks for that will probably go with Singapore Airlines as they seem the cheapest and then annoy the daylights out of them. Fran.
  2. Thanks Val, will try that when the time comes. It will only be a one way flight anyway. Best of luck to ye. Fran.
  3. I know what you mean Ann I think I'll have to put on a disguise going to the bottle bank at the rate I'm going.
  4. Hi All, I might have asked this question earlier in the year, can't remember. My head is all over the place these days waiting for my CO, especially as I had a hiccup in April because I was told I had a CO and it was all a mistake:arghh: Anyway what I want to know is there any way I can get the extra baggage allowance with a 173 temporary visa. I will be travelling to Brisbane from Ireland, hopefully October, all depends on when I get the CO. I have made inquiries on the phone but not getting any joy. Signapore airlines told me they may give me 5 extra kgs but I would have to book first and then they would look into it. I know Emirates allow 30kgs but they are alot more expensive. I am not shipping anything over as I'll see how it goes before I apply for the 143 will depend on getting a good job and saving the money to upgrade to it. Thanks to everyone on this site for the great advice and updates. This is a brilliant forum and have gotten friendly with Liverpooloo who helps me through all the highs and lows. Fran.
  5. Hi Val, great news for ye, so exciting. I am Brisbane bound too, I'll be heading for Hemmant where my son lives. What part are ye going to settle in? Congrats again.
  6. Thanks for that Grammie, give me great hope, my acknowledgement date was 6th September 2012 so won't be long now. Am keeping an eye on the tracker list too.
  7. Hi Grammie, hope you don't mind me asking but how long did it take for you to be granted a CO for the 173 visa. Hope all goes well for you.
  8. Thanks for that Ann, still looking forward to the day we will meet in either Perth or Brisbane and open a bottle or two of vino and laugh about all our frustrations of this waiting.
  9. Congratulations Kim, great news for ye. And for the rest of us the delay must be over, maybe we will see more movement on the list now.Hope all goes well for ye. Fran.
  10. I am really interested in this as I am sending the money to my son in Aus (see my previous post re euro devaluation) and as he is offshore on the mines he will not be able to get to a bank to get a cheque and would have to wait for his R&R, so it would be a further delay. I am really hoping that they will accept credit card as it would be easy enough for him to do it this way. Thanks again to all on this forum for the great advise and support. I am really hoping that there is some move on the tracker list soon and does anyone know what the delay is all about or is it normal.
  11. Hi Michelle, I got a letter from DIAC in May of this year asking me to do medicals and police clearance so I went ahead and did them. I thought then I would get a CO soon after that. When my agent contacted the immigration asking them about when I would expect to get a CO they said a mistake was made and that I should not have been asked for the meds and clearance so soon. But at least they are in Perth now and should help to get things moving fast once I get my CO. From what I read on this forum it would not be advisable to get these done until asked cos they can go missing, lost in post etc. There actually seems to be a bit of a slow down with CO's being appointed, no move on the tracker list for ages. Best of luck getting all sorted with your parents. Fran.
  12. Hi hope to get some advice from someone of the more financial wizz kids on this forum !! I have applied for the 173 temporary visa and the 2nd VAC is AUD$24,010, back in September 2011 (my acknowledgement date) this converted to approx Euro17,000, for the past few weeks it has been jumping up at an unreal rate. Only last week it was around Euro19,000 to pay Aud$24,010 and today it is just hitting the Euro20,000. I spoke to my son in Brisbane and he suggested transferring the money over to his account now. I know it is hard to predict the way the euro is now but if it goes up much more I will have abandon my plans. I have no pension so it will be out straight away looking for work when I get to Brisbane but I don't mind that, just hope I do get a job. I expect to get my CO Sept/October, meds and police clearance are in Perth. I am rabbiting on now, but to go back to the basics would be grateful for advice whether to transfer now or hold tough and hope the exchange rate changes. Thanks, Fran.
  13. Thanks for the wishes John & Eirian, would be great if I did get the CO that soon, tho my acknowledgement date was September 2011 and the average wait on the tracker seems 14 months, is this a new thing looking for the meds and police checks before getting a CO. This is really a great site for information. All the best to you both, Fran.
  14. Thanks for that Linday, after a sleepless night (one of many) I have decided I'll wait for the CO, see my reply to John and Eirian. Thanks again, Fran.
  15. Hi John and Eiran, I got that letter from the DIAC too, in May, so my meds and police clearance are in Perth. Think I will hold tough and hope that the CO will be granted sooner than the four months. Am getting second thoughts about heading out and waiting for the CO over there, cos I am depending on finding work and would have to wait for the visa for that and again I would have to travel to NZ to validate, all extra money.
  16. Hi Mike, sorry for wrecking your head, but if I apply for the visitor visa, will it effect my application for the 173 visa. I got quoted 150 euro from visa first in Ireland to get the 6 month one, I thought that was a bit steep. Would I be better off getting the 3 month one and then getting it renewed. I intend going early August. One more question, could I book the flight for 2nd August if I applied for the tourist visa, would I get it in time if I applied for it this week. Many thanks again.
  17. Hi Mike, thank you for that information, I am thinking of heading over before my CO is allocated, all my documents are in Perth and got the email saying I will have a CO in next 3 - 5 months. Do you think it would delay getting the CO if I did go over and wait there and would the CO let you know in time to get out to NZ . Many thanks to all on this site for their help.
  18. Hi Angela, I know exactly how you feel about the length of time of this application. I applied for a 173 (temporary Parent Visa) last September, would love to apply for the 143 but dont have the funds. I thought I was going to be going soon, but got word from DIAC today that it will be 3 to 5 months before I get a CO, am unemployed so the time is just dragging. On a positive note you have August to look forward to. Its a long road but you have your young and have a long and happy time over there to look forward to. Keep the chin up. Sorry can't be of any help re the one year visa. I have been told ok that you can get a long term visitor visa and my son was telling me that you can do a visa run for about 300 dollars to New Zealand, it would be a late flight at night and back the next day to validate your visa if you were in Aus when the visa came thro. Keep the chin up. Fran (A gatecrasher from Ireland on the PIO page).
  19. Hi All, just wondering if anyone has the email address of the Parent Visa Centre Team in Perth. I got it in correspondence as pvc.team@immi.gov.au but its not correct as I keep getting it bounced back. :arghh: Great reading all the new posts lately.
  20. Thanks to Linday and Phoebe, will check out those airlines, will let ye know how I get on.
  21. Hi All, I have seen a thread on this forum about getting extra allowances when you have a parent migration visa, but I cant find it now. I just wonder if anyone can help. I will be getting a 173 visa soon (I hope):biggrin:and am asking if anyone knows about the extra baggage allowance and what airlines do it and if I could get it having a 173 visa. I will be flying from Ireland to Brisbane. Many thanks, Fran.
  22. Hi, if you go to the progress tracker on this forum, you will find a section there to find out about the exchange rate for the 2nd VAC, I think it changes in January and July. Not too sure about all this, its something I would like to know more about too. I'll be paying my 2nd VAC from ireland. Fran.
  23. Hi Nicola, I applied for the 173 for the same reason, I cant afford the 143. I will apply for the 143 when I am there a few months and see how I am going workwise etc in getting the money together for it. I am 57 and have no pension so I will be looking for work too. You do have the right to work on the 173, sorry I don't know anything about the housing situation. There is a lot of form filling and documents needed to apply for the visas but once there are sent off then its just a matter of waiting. Best of luck, Fran.
  24. Hi John and Joan, thanks for the reply. You will see the other reply from Rowley who was acknowledged on 12th April that they are now dealing with 17th March 2011. If that is the case, they are speeding up a bit. ( I hope I haven't calculated this wrong)!! I wonder if the 143 is dealt with more speedily or is it just the luck of the draw. Thanks again, Fran.
