Hi Tab, I'm in Brisbane just a month now and started work on Tuesday (office work), it was hard enough to find, its temporary but loving it so far, I just kept on the computer every day applying and it paid off. Am loving the life so far, I find the weekends a bit hard ok missing my friends but hope to make new ones, its early days yet. I cant say about about self employed as I am on Tax File Number (or so I think). I'm new to this life so hope you get more replies but so far I wouldnt change a thing, glad I made the move. Fran.

Hi Andy, I got my 173 probably same timeframe for 143 after 15 months. Its a long wait but worth it. Am in Brisbane now and loving it, but will never forget the wait for any correspondence from the DIAC. I actually got that letter you are talking about 7 months after my acknowledgement date and thought it was heads up and it was a mistake on their part, letting me know too early, made it even worse. I let the house out did all the usual things you would do thinking you were on the way to be told it was a mistake, but at least I'm here now. But the best thing is to get the documents they want over to them and have it ready for the CO and then there is no real wait after that. Best of luck, Fran.

Hi Angie, Many thanks for your good wishes, I am excited and nervous at the same time. I'm sure ye all understand the feeling. Its strange also cos my son will be travelling in South America, he leaves Ireland tomorrow to go on travels until mid February, so I'll have plenty of time to find by bearings etc. I've been over to his place a few times so its not quite as daunting. Hi Val, many thanks for your reply, thats great as I will need two cases for the 30kg. Sounds like you are having a great time in Australia. Hope to make it to one of the Poms in Oz meet ups when I get there (even if I am a blow in!!). Thanks again for the info. Fran x E=vava;1936067367]Happy New Year Fran! :xmas18: You can take your luggage allowance in more than one case (or bag) in fact, they prefer it if you do as they don't like to lift very heavy cases. Health and Safety etc! And, don't forget you can have a few kilos of hand luggage as well as a (biggish) handbag. I reckon you'd get away with 40kgs in total! Dave and I have just returned yesterday from a visit to the Brisbane bayside area and I thought of you when we passed the turn off for Hemmant! We had two lovely Poms in Oz afternoons too during our visit. We met up with Val and Matt and Angie & Ted (Brummiebabies). So much in common to chat about - it was really wonderful. Hi All, am heading to Brisbane on 13th of this month, delighted I got my visa, as I have said before in my posts. Just wondering if anyone could help. I am travelling from Dublin with Emirates, I have 30kg allowance. Does anyone know if I can split this up between two bags for checked in luggage. Many thanks, Fran.

Hi my 173 temp visa took just under 15 months but on checking the tracker the average is between 13 and 15 months, never seems to be anything more, I'd say they are covering themselves in case of a delay. Best of luck I know its a hard wait. Fran.

Hi all, just got a phone call from my agent my visa has been granted - 173. I got my Case Officer on 21st November. Some smashing way to start the week. Flight booked for Brisbane on 13th January. Thanks to you all for the support along the way and wish all of you still waiting the best of luck. Will keep in touch and let ye know how things are going for me after the big move. Fran.

Hi I can associate with that big time!! All my friends think its crazy what I am doing especially because I have no grandchildren, just my son over there and no pension so I'll be job hunting as soon as I get there - flight booked for 13th Jan. But my gut instinct tells me I am right, I can't get work here and am not ready for the scrap heap yet and hopefully will have a different and better life out there. Hi Moira, a bit confused here, I got the request for my medicals and Garda Clearance (I'm a blow in here) I'm Irish back in April and sent them off straight away. The medical was straight forward done in one day and sent off the next week. I got the request a bit too soon, but from what I gather the norm is 4 months before appointment of a CO. Hope it all goes well for you, Fran.

Hi All, great news got my CO today and request for Final VAC all in one go, delighted. Flight booked for 13th January, bit on the expensive side cos of the time of year, but worth it!!! End of this long long journey in sight. Am opening the wine as I type. :biggrin: This smiley is especially for Gilly- a great friend for the last few months.

Hi, I'm expecting my CO any day now, I see on the tracker the person who was acknowledged 1st Sept 2011 got theirs today my ack date is 6th Sept 2011. I am applying for the 173 temp visa so there is no AOS. Could anyone tell me how long approx after being appointed a CO could I expect to get the visa? Many thanks. Fran.

Hi Val, I emailed the address below asking them ever so politely what the story is re my CO, I got a reply very quickly saying that as I am using an Agent I cannot be informed of any progress. I didn't realise that immigration will not correspond with an individual who has an agent. I suppose the only thing I can do now is go back and verify that I am still using an agent. Will let you all know how I get on. Fran.

Hi Gin, my ack date is 6 Sept 2011 and I am expecting a CO any day now, the way flight prices are going I was even going to book one for end Dec as there is one date when it is fairly reasonable they go way up for a one way flight in January. It really seems a long time that you are waiting for a CO, going by , the tracker list. Hope you can let us know if you email and get a reply from immigration. Congratulations Val, great news. Hi Moira, this waiting is hard work!! I am really in a predicament as my son is leaving Brisbane for hols on 2nd Dec so I don't want to be walking in the door as he is leaving. If you do email and get a reply could you let me know, the tracker seems to be at a standstill now. Hi, I'm hoping to get a CO soon and then get my 173 temporary visa. With the 23kg restriction on the cheapest flight, I knew i would be stuck with over weight levies so I contact some shipping agents and got quotes of around 350 euros. I'm Irish so am a blow in on this site !! After searching on the internet I have found that the Irish Postal system will allow a parcel of up to 20kgs weight for 60euros for postal to Australia and it only takes 7/10 days. Such a bargain, so just wondering if any of you that are not sending your household goods, if you might be able to get the same deal from the Royal Mail. Watching the progress tracker like a hawk these days. Fran.

Hi, I can really understand your parents worries re jobs etc., I am 58 and moving to Brisbane on the temp visa, I choose that option because I don't have the money to go for the permanent one. I hope to get work as soon as I get there to save for the 143. I don't know any people out there except my sons friends and I want to make friends of my own age when I get there. I'll have a word with Eoin when I next talk to him about jobs in landscaping see if he knows anyone connected in that line. Hope you get the decision you want from your parents. Hi Dev, I didn't have HAP ID or TRN No., and I got my medicals done in Cork (I'm from Ireland). I just brought the forms that were sent to me to the appointment. I really can't hep you, but I am sure you will get a helpful reply from someone with better knowledge than me. I think that the HAP ID or TRN is relevant if the application is made by electronic means. I didnt get these because my agent sent my application by ordinary mail. Hope you don't mind me asking but did you actually get appointed a CO or did you just get a letter asking for your meds and Form 80 etc. I got those in April and mistakenly thought I had a CO. Hope you get the info you are looking for. Fran.

Hi All, just saw on the tracker list that two others have gotten their CO's, great to see it moving. Just wondering if it was just the letter asking re medicals and Form 80 etc that is being sent out in advance of CO being appointed or was it actually appointing a CO. The acknowledgement dates were in August. Not complaining though as my acknowledgement date is 6th September 2011 and If I'm lucky I could get a CO sooner than expected. Fran.
