  1. Hi there Lpool7!! We'll take the lot hunny! we've just got our visas through, and will be leaving the end of this month. If it's possible to leave it in storage, we'll sort out the transfer for the middle of next month to our accomodation. That would be fantasic as we'd need all the stuff you've listed. We're shipping most of our stuff over, but still need beds, fridge, sofa, etc. Strangely, none of that's going. All in all, you're a life-saver!! ;-) Don.t worry about the truck fee, we'll cover that when we need to take it out of storage. I guess we'd just ned to transfer names. I'm so sorry it didn't work out for you out there. :-( I can't begin to imagine how you must feel. Many thanks for your posting, Jon, Maxine, Jordan, Ryan & Trey. X
  2. our timeline we originally applied in nov 2010 to be honest reading some of the threads on here, my case has run on rails the only hiccup was the medical referal towards the end. mines a state sponsored visa for victoria. got to be there by may next year, so were flying before the months out if we can! the funny thing is we have had our leaving do booked for tonight for the last couple of months. all without having the final ok. and it comes today! what are the odds of that! *it must be stated, much help from Ian Harrop and pals, and the missus! Im pretty useless with paperwork, and without Jenny & Maxine on my case, i'd still be booking my IELTS
  3. thanks y'all! weird feeling, kind of excited but aprehensive at the same time....
  4. ours came through today after 7 weeks on the pile. time to see the moon upside down! bring on Melbourne!
  5. been meaning to ask for a while, this thread reminded me, are Dysons really expensive in Australia? had a guy round to quote us for packing and he said they cost a fortune out there. so just wondered.
  6. sh!t sorry shoes, i thought you'd apreciate them. in all seriousness though, a gmail or yahoo account is a good thing, as you are not tied to the internet service providor. i have a gmail address and ill still have the same one when i come over to Australia. its just easier. one of the best things about gmail is that it has free "pop forwarding" meaning you can use an app on your phone or ipad, or set up outlook or other mail programs in windows to automatically check and retrieve mail for you. no more logging in, one click mail. all good. ps, these blue pills are fab.......
  7. Currently live in: Portsmouth Moving to: Melbourne Visa Type: Skilled Family: The Rib and I, and 3 Boys 18,16 and 7 Age Bracket: 7 to 36 When hoping 2 move: 10/10/2012 ....... medical referral threw a spanner in that little gem. ASAP, I guess if the best answer. Visa status: being processed Been to Oz before: Nope! If there is any regret when I make my peace, I'd much rather regret what I've done, than what I didn't!
  8. hi all, we have the same problem, one medical held up. its a shame i didnt see this thread before we went because we could have fixed the missus before she went it. oh well! hindsight eh! should pay more attention to PIO! to save me ploughing through the other 75 pages; have any of you followed this thread? could you please let me know the rough time line for these professionals to deal with our notes? also, has anyone been brave enough to ship their belongings before having the ok. to close the gap out there without stuff. many thanks
  9. we had to phone too today. not strictly their fault, as one of our party needed extra tests. it seems all is fine, medicals passed! wonderful! phew! now whats next on the migration list.........:err:
  10. upside, hands dont get headaches. downside, suppose its the companionship.
  11. me too, lots of tools to clean! off to melbourne mid october if all runs on rails. tools too, if i can get them clean enough.
  12. have now.... i'll eat to that!* *after the medical obviously!
  13. that should read, Australia houses biggest in the world.. its a ratio thing, the average american is going to fill much more of his house just by standing in it. Congratulations Australia, biggest (arguably leaky) houses in the world!

    Tools?

id be tempted to take them. selling them in the uk will leave you with pounds, which due to the uk governments devaluing on the pound (called QE to stop the panic) will leave you with precious little aussie dollars to replace them. about 8 months ago my wife and i did the math, and found almost all of our belongings are worth bringing! its cheaper at the moment to ship pretty much everything. voltages are the same. no worries. the currency situation has got much worse since then. the pound is officially sh1te. makes me feel like the 1million zimbabwean dollar man. you will also have all the tools straight away so you can be productive from day one. the only pain, is that the tools will have to be clean and smell nice. i get the impression the customs guys can be awkward so clean everything.
  15. Val, theres nothing i can add! just what i was thinking! Kelly, stay in touch with this place, the near future is sure to be full of ups and downs. there are a lot of varying views, and wise people on this site. this whole episode has the makings of a new begining for all of you.
  16. i agree, in the uk i see many families doing very well on benefits. it seems a bit harsh, but i think, if you want to smoke, get a job. drink booze, get a job. drive if you live inner city? get a job. i was brought up in a single parent home, i know how hard it can be. but if the means are there for people to get off their asses and into better life habbits. then its all good. the system at the moment (in the uk) is so open to corruption and so powerless with plenty of laws to penalise it, it hasnt a hope of cutting back. i do hope the system in australia has the teeth to get the job done. whilst im on my soapbox, i may as well throw in that we should all have just one dustbin. it would be far greener to send it all off in one truck. to the local prison, where the inmates can (in segregated rooms) sort it. green, and a reason not to reoffend all in one go
  17. ive lived in england my whole life, and ive never met one! i guess you have more chance of finding that persona outside of the uk, rather than in it. i wish you luck.
  18. 28.4, should be ok, just concerned about the tyre lol. thanks for the help
  19. id be careful starving though, its a worry about the blood tests too! if they are out of whack, it could cost you more for more tests. this could be a good thing for us, a reason to put down the pies. the hardest bit is making it a permanent lifestyle change. good luck everyone who is out to change their lives. we feel your pain!
  20. my wife and I are both bulimia amnesic*. is there a limit on BMI etc for the medicals. we are both active and as far as we know in reasonable health and in our mid 30's. do we need a crash diet in time for the meds? many thanks  (*binge eat, then forget to throw up.)
  21. i post on a couple of alternative fuels forums, nerdy tech stuff for the most part. funny how my first google is always 'pio oz' though something about this place.....
  22. ah yes, but you can offset the house, and its associated running costs on your oz tax return. so in theory at least, it can be a very lucrative move to rent it out. get an oz accountant that knows his stuff, and offset his fees on the tax return too
  23. it will power up, you will likely need a set top box to get anything on it though. unless it has a worldwide tuner (which is unlikely) worth bringing imho. if its worth a few quid bring it. if its cheap, you'll probably spend more shipping it, than its worth.
  24. OP, your troll skills are weak. 1. go away, 2. raise your game, 3. try again. if you're not trolling, then take a look in the mirror, then goto step 2, above.
  25. update... i gave VU a polite nudge (couple of phone calls), and within a week the webcam interview was done all good, now to the next stage!
