  1. wow - never been before?! What makes you want to go and what has made you choose QLD?
  2. Hi I thought it might be a good idea for people here to say in very brief format where they are currently living in the UK and where they are moving to (or hope to move to!) in Oz, and maybe how far along they are, circumstances etc in order for people to maybe meet and chat with people in the same boat and who knows - possibly make new friends for life! So I will start us off Currently live in: Epping, Essex, UK Moving to: Buderim, Sunshine Coast, QLD Visa Type: Business Owner Family: Me, Wife, 2 kids (4 and 18months) Age bracket: 30 - 40 When hoping to move: April 2013 Visa status: granted! Been to Oz before? Yes 7 times, been all over!
  3. What type of thing/place are you looking for?
  4. Maleny and Montville in the Glass House Mountains are stunning. My wife and I have visited all of the areas spoken about when trying to find the right place to settle with our 2 kids (18mnths & 4yrs) - the last time we went we stayed in Buderim and checked out 4 or 5 schools from Maleny, to Buderim and right down to the Coast at Golden Beach. For me, in terms of the wow factor Maleny/Montville wins but I think we will move to Buderim as it is just much more practical and coming from the UK Buderim and the Sunshine coast will be a slow enough pace of life. I fear that if we moved to Maleny it would be too much of a life change all in one go. I have done sooo much research on these areas - feel free to ask me anything you like and will try to help!
  5. When I was there in Sept I was in the CBD to see my accountant and i told him where we were going to live (Buderim - but that too far for you I think) and he suggested taking a drive through a place called Samford on our way out of town - we did and it was Very nice looked perfect for a family (we have a 3yr old and a 1yr old) I would highly recommend a look. Not sure if it will be TOO far for you but after Samford we also came across a place called Dayboro which we also REALLY liked the look of - looked so nice for a family.
  6. When I went to Cairns I found it a bit TOO 'nothing ish' for me (not offence Cairns people!) The Gold Coast was not my cup of tea either as that is just like being in Florida! ie loads of teenagers, and VERY 'touristy' - Both areas do have beautiful spots but they are so different it is hard to know what you're looking for?
  7. Very different to the UK - my wife and I were over there visiting schools (primary) in Sept 11 - we are looking to move to Buderim or surround so visited 4 different ones dotted all around there and each one said exactly the same thing i.e. We are no where near getting to the stage where capacity would be a problem so yes as another poster said - just rock up and join in. I almost had to stop myself laughing when I asked how much 'noticed' they would need and the Head Teacher replied - Well, it would be good if you could give a weeks notice but if thats not possible then not to worry!!!
  8. Although it has been rented for a long time remember you only pay Capital Gains on the amount it has risen while rented out - not the period while you lived there
