  1. Fisher is a little bit frustrated tonight. I'm so poor sorry for you
  2. I don't answer to that other stupid statement regarding Austria. Are you really living in Australia? Obviously not as you're replying to am Australian citizen who is here to get thinks right and to help. To be rude is not getting facts right people reading this. Have a look at population proportions
  3. [There are perhaps more self funded retirees living here than some posters may realise, costing the country nothing, while contributing to the economy] Quote Ramot This is not true. Show me the statistics about that. Most elderly people get the Aged Pension or parts of the Aged Pension!
  4. You are not getting the facts right: http://theweek.com/articles/443122/8-maps-show-median-age-every-country-earth IT'S CLEAR THAT AUSTRALIA HAS ONE OF THE OLDEST WESTERN POPULATIONS! I've done my maths to know what a 'silver tsunami' means. I'm talking about Australians future to come and NOT about only this moment in time.
  5. Yes, indeed the capital lies in the work performance and work contribution of migrants. I'm against of only allowing rich and wealthy parents permanent entry into Australia, buying themselves a ticket so to say whereas on the other hand Australia has a very stringent and strict migration system in place where even younger people not on the SOL are singled out and then you're saying elderly people with money should be allowed in because they are parents of somebody who decided to migrate to Australia. Anyway, the point is not the 'substantial capital' it's the fact that they use tax payer funded public roads, tax payer funded infrastructure, libraries, specialist and doctor services which have already waiting lists for certain conditions, aged care facilities, home care assistance, valued resources which are lacking like water etc. The most important fact is that Australia has one of the most aged population in the Western World, you only have to google 'Silver Tsunami' or work in the Aged Care industry like me. Most parents I know don't have the big funds you're suggesting as Australia is too expensive for them on a normal frozen pension.
  6. You can apply for a passport straight after the Citizenship ceremony actually as PR will be ceased immediately.
  7. Not parents from 1st world countries are the issue, parents from migrants from developing countries are far more likely to pull up stakes in their country of origin where the aged pension or universal free health care is a alien concept. Some Asian/Indian migrants from not so wealthy backgrounds take on huge debts to pay for their parents to join them in Australia. In my opinion Australian Immigration should rather close the loophole for parents coming on a tourist visa and then suddenly applying for a bridging visa in Australia to avoid paying the 47,000 AUD. An extended tourist visa for parents is a really good idea.
  8. There is no obligation when signing up with Facebook to put down a religion at all. But he did mention his 'former' religion as a Muslim and hasn't changed it after his 'conversion'. Bangladesh has all kinds of religions, Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus and Christians anyway! So I don't see a problem here as many Bangladeshis intermarry with other religions and are not that strict like in Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh has a 'relaxed' version of Islam. I'm sure - as we don't have the verdict or any more information about this case- that the Tribunal not only made its decision based alone on this fact found on Facebook. There must be other doubts and contradictions as well, maybe they asked him questions about the Bible and Christianity stuff and he couldn't answer it? I know in my home country some people used to convert to become Jews and they have to undertake an exam like test and attending lessons for 2 years or so. Maybe that guy failed to answer the simplest Bible questions? Or perhaps the Christian community he claimed he belonged to didn't know him. Not enough details in the media to gain a whole picture what the reasons for the refusal were all together (and authorities have no interest to make it public to prevent more fake claims).
  9. What you're saying has nothing to do with this case as you are living in Australia and just put a UK address on facebook. Assuming you have an Australian employer who notifies ATO anyway how long you've worked for them that particular tax year and amount of salary. Immigration and other authorities are able to verify your 'physical presence' within Australia anyway by using VEVO and it just takes a sec. Putting in UK, an Ashram in India or Timbuktu as place of residence is completely uninteresting as nobody will investigate as you don't have a pending court case or appeal and assuming that you came her legally and probably didn't use a fake claim or death treat as right of entry to this country. If people do have pending appeals or court cases of course authorities will investigate throughout and fully, research the internet and watch out for contradictory statements as hey that's their job! That applicant put himself in that position and can only blame himself for such a stupid lie and got caught out. For me personally that story leaves behind a bitter aftertaste as there are people who converted and received death treats but fake claims like this makes it for honest religious prosecuted or converted applicants fleeing their country harder to be heard if dishonest people just using that as a loophole for a free ride to Australia.
  10. Currently Australia has a higher unemployment rate than the USA or Germany (watched that on ABC this morning). Australian authorities should address that issue with local unemployed rates first AND limit immigration to only high demand occupations until the employment market/jobless rate is going to reach similar numbers as of the US for example.
  11. That is because all builders work with subcontractors and not like in the old days doing everything with a own workmanship. The 3 months extra for the estimated construction time is due to councils needing ages to give approvals for the engineering plans of the houses. We have build our house with a builder last year and would probably never do it again as there are more hidden costs to a new build: flooring and carpet not included as only tiles 5000 K extra on top fencing and gardening was mentioned before, then you have to consider security doors which are never included but most of Australian houses have these kind of flyscreen security doors 3000 K the windows are all 'naked' as you need to buy blinds and curtains yourselves 3000 K you have to find an electrician for pending lights and outdoor lighting as this is not included most times worst thing: no heating at all (and we do have winter here if you don't want to live in the top end of Australia) and no aircon included (some builder do include aircondition) Fisher1 you really have to read your contract fine prints carefully and look out for the pitfalls!
  12. Where to draw the line? Now all prospective migrants with children with a mild autism disorder should be invited to apply for a visa then? I doubt that this decision would have been made without the noise of the media and of course, lets say for example if one parent is as a plumber and the other one a stay-at-home mum and they would have appealed without media + public attention. What completely gobsmacked me was this statement of the dad: "So, it put us into a lot of uncertainties. We work in a pretty demanding job ... this is actually taking toll on my life, I have, I can't take it anymore." Well, in Bangladesh - both parents migrated from there - they would pay out-of-pocket for medical costs anyway and life down there is full of uncertainties and stigma of austism (hubby has lots of relatives from Bangladesh and we have Bangladshi friends). Now Bangladesh has lost 2 more doctors as they came on a Scholarship and THEN decided to stay in Australia for good! I don't like the fact that there are loopholes as both applicants taken a high risk to apply for PR where the rule 'one fails all fail' rule applies and they got away with it but other people with disabled children will never get that change to migrate. The law should really be the law but because of the professional reputation of the appealing applicants and that media hype Peter Dutton got cold feet.

    Aus Passport

Most airlines wouldn't allow to board the plane anyway as airlines are obliged to check if all passengers boarding a flight carry a visa as otherwise they have to pay hefty penalties and are responsible to return passengers as well. What I do not get is the fact why take on another countries citizenship when not willing to pay for a passport? Australia offers an alternative: an 'instant' RRV for 5 years within 1 minute done online (360 AUD) which is cheaper than citizenship application costs (265 AUD once) + passport (254 AUD currently every 10 years). Nowadays some people are just preferring this hedonistic attitude: taking all advantages they can get but not willing to pay the price!
  14. Hi ecg78, did you have to rock up at the Post Office a 2nd time? Or did they change citizenship certificate no. for you on the passport form? Just asking as I did the same mistake!!! Will head to the post office next week as we've just returned from holidays at the Gold Coast...
  15. Date applied - 02/02/2016 City/Council area - Adelaide Online / Paper - Paper Date received the acknowledgement email - 04/02/2016 Date of the Citizenship Test - 16/03/2016 - passed (100%) Approval letter dated - 16/03/2016 - received in mail 22/03/2016 Date of ceremony - 12/08/2016 -received invitation in mail 15/07/2016 - invitation sent by DIBP Type of ceremony (Urgent/Normal) - Normal - CITIZEN!!! Became Australian citizen today :-) Checked this afternoon on VEVO, my visa has already been cancelled. Arrived shortly after 9:00 am with my wife at our local Footy Club. Luckily we have arrived so early, as could fill in electoral enrolment form and straight after that received my Citizenship Certificate! Affirmation/pledge done after Mayor, AEC staff and Immi representative held their welcome speeches. Over 500 people attended inclusive family members, friends, children. It was so full in the Club room that some people had to stand as not enough chairs available (it was mentioned in invitation letter to only bring 1 person along). Fantastic ceremony with lunch/sandwiches and mini cupcakes and the obligatory photo shooting with the Mayor and other politicians. Decorated with all Australian Flags, Coat of Arms + Queen of Australia. Beautiful weather and such a nice atmosphere. Wish you all the very best outcome!
  16. It's not shown on our council's website and DIBP are hosting a ceremony due to the fact that we live in a large council with many migrants who want to become citizens. I have sent you a private message in which council we live in because I don't know if the same applies to you. I don't want to raise wrong expectations but it's worth to ask if anything is happening in between.
  17. Then you're just lucky as citizenship is a demand driven 'industry' nowadays! More demand means less likelihood of a quick ceremony. Townsville is not a migrant hot spot anyway with a population of 171,824 inhabitants as the council we live in has almost that number of people alone - not to mention whole Adelaide!
  18. Hi Roland, good luck with your ceremony! You may just give DIBP a ring by the end/mid of August and enquire about that issue as this would mean a long wait... My partner attends a DIBP hosted ceremony and NOT a council one as our council - even with nearly monthly ceremonies hosted by our council. Too many applicants I guess! Maybe you're also lucky and get an Immi hosted one.
  19. All March approved applicants in SOUTH AUSTRALIA are due in August for their ceremonies (at least what I have found out in another forum). 2 people from Brisbane posted here not long ago. Have a look on littlegreenman from Queesnland. He was approved in Feb 2016 and got his certificate in July 2016. You should be next in August/September (depending if there is something going in August!) BUT... has your partner's application been approved in May and yours in March? Are both applications linked? If yes, than unfortunately you have to wait longer because usual waiting time is at least 5 months currently in a positive scenario for all states (besides Perth/WA I heard opposite in only 3 months all together).
  20. Actually, it's not that strange as my other half had to sign as well and his CO mentioned that his signature from the passport (8 years old) was different to the application's current one. CO said that they ask for this because some people change the way they sign and of course DIBP wants to have the most recent signature and not an out dated in a nearly decade old passport ( you'd wonder how many people do so).
  21. Sorry, I can't remember exactly but I think it used to be 4.5-5.5 (what simran 7757 mentioned)
  22. Hi, of course your wife needs a police check and she and your child need both medicals as well. It's the 'one fails everyone fails' policy which is applicable to every (permanent) visa. For example, if your daughter would be chronically ill and she would fail the medical your visa would be refused even if you and your wife would pass 100%. I was the second applicant and had to do the IELTS/English test when we migrated as otherwise we would have to pay 3000 AUD or so for not doing so as some sort of 'penalty' payment. I don't know if that's still the case as nowadays and maybe somebody else can shine a light onto that.
  23. It was a letter and it said that you have to contact Immi in case you are NOT attending your ceremony. No need for confirmation. But saying this keep in mind in case you receive an email it can be the opposite! I have read somewhere that email invitations would need confirmation by replying to the council.
  24. Exactly! They are definitely not 'just' frontline staff as they are in charge of any citizenship approvals! What some applicants simply don't get is the fact that a 'case officer' for a visa applicantion - which is a certain person in a certain team - is not the same as a 'case officer' for a citizenship application - as citizenship is rather a formal approval when an applicant fulfils all requirements and is eligible and therefore there is no 'case officer' in terms of a certain person but all staff in Immi dealing with this are highly trained and qualified Federal public servants for only one reason: Don't underestimate the fact that they are dealing with not only highly confidential and private information as it is more about to detect false applications and failed character tests as well. For example, the photo they take at the interview works with 'face recognition' in their computer system and can easily detect if the person who claims to be the applicant is really the applicant. It is really about to proof who you are and to say 'front line staff' stultifies the sobriety of dealing with this kind of sensitive information and these 'front line staff' take citizenship seriously as they have the power to refuse and revoke citizenship AFTER the grant as well (they have revoked some by the way who came here as 'fake' PR's or were terrorists or gang members).
