  1. ooh good luck for a speedy turnaround, that's just a few days after us! it's all go here, gonna get our medicals done maybe next week but more likely week after due to hubs work, got all our stuff for UK police check, my Aus police check is on its way to me after a lightning fast turnaround, hubs about to do his. Form 80 is being chipped away at every day. Nearly there!! Only the UK police check can hold us back time wise now. Cor, it's pricy compared with the Aus one as well!
  2. I order from UK gift sites/Amazon/John Lewis - most do gift options and you can opt to have things wrapped/not enclose the invoice. Far far cheaper and faster!
  3. Ace thanks Karen, we'll try and get police stuff posted by midweek, it's hard with hubby's work hours and locations to get everything done! Hoping we'll have our PR before we go on holiday early Aug, then we return as permanent residents yee ha!
  4. Just got our case officer assigned woohoo! This is after lodging the application on 22 March. We haven't yet posted our UK police clearance applications. I have a dumb question about this. Do we need to send a copy of the entire passport, or just the photo page? Finding someone on the acceptable occupations list who has known us for 2 years to sign the passport photos is another matter...!
  5. Yeah, and the broker would have been free to us if we'd taken out a bigger mortgage, but we only needed a shade over £50k!
  6. Try a mortgage broker. We used John Charcol, very helpful. Just after we remortgaged our lender stopped offering expat mortgages, but with recent improvements in UK economic conditions there may be more products on offer to expats.
  7. Rules must have changed since the end of August, when we flew home from LA there was no secondary screening and, as always, we had no issues taking water purchased after security on the plane. We always grab a bottle of water as it's often a long time from boarding the plane to having access to a drink. Will find out if things have really changed when we go to Hawaii next week!
  8. Rubbish, nothing to do with flights to Australia! We've travelled on 4 international flights USA to Australia with no secondary screening after security nor water bottles confiscated. The USA is the most paranoid when it comes to screening onboard luggage and understandably so. However I've flown many times within, to and out of the USA since Sept 11th with no issues boarding with liquids post-security. Sounds like a bizarre Middle-Eastern quirk more than anything.
  9. <p><p>Hey missus, we had an amazing time! Holidays are the best, nice to be home with cat-features though <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/ohmy.png" alt=":o" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/ohmy@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />) I better get on with organising a pre-christmas meetup!</p></p>

  10. Aww, I like the wee fellas! We had a few inside the house last summer but now we have the kitty, who chases anything that moves, they stay out! That's the closest thing I've seen to 'gecko repellent' but not practical for everyone ;o)

Like butter wouldn't melt! Unfortunately I've not been able to get a shot of his 'attack' expression, he's turning out to have something of a naughty streak!!

  15. <p><p>OMG landlord says yes to kitten! Scream! Gonna go kitty-searching after holiday :oD x</p></p>

  16. <p><p>Wasn't too expensive, flights to LA about $1200 return and the exchange rate is great so everything will seem soooo cheap over there :oD Hopefully you'll earn loads and be able to save up anyway! My husband has been working away 2-3 weeks at a time, I'm kind of getting used to it now! Weekends can be a bit lonely but been meeting nice folk like Sioban from PIO so that helps, and am hoping to get landlord's permission to get a kitten for company! But the pay makes up a bit, and Dave should get decent length breaks at home in between too but yeah if you hate it it's easier to change things over here <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/ohmy.png" alt=":o" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/ohmy@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />)</p></p>

  17. <p><p>Work's pretty good, colleagues are a really nice bunch! We are off to California for 2 weeks, hubby really needs the break as he's been working in Darwin most of the last few months! I'll keep an eye out for your news, hope you hear really soon x</p></p>

  18. <p><p>Hey missus, going well here, still working for QLD gov't against all the odds! And we are on holidays for 2 weeks from next Friday wheee :oD Best of luck to you and Dave re. the job, keeping everything crossed for you x</p></p>

  19. Well I was just in Disco Dan's (Murphys) for the Friday tasting, and at the counter the closest thing they had was balsamic flavour roasted peanuts which is actually closer to my salt n vinegar nutty boys!
  20. There's such a variety of roasted/flavoured/coated nuts you're spoiled for choice but can understand the craving! That's got me hankering after the salt & vinegar dry roasted, think they were KP and not sure whether you can even still get 'em. They were wicked with a few pints o' cider! I would suggest you try one of the varieties of roasted macadamia though, even if it doesn't help the craving. The Queensland nut - the king of nuts!!

<p><p>Don't know yet if I'll be working from next week, but I am available and meet all the criteria so fingers crossed - don't be surprised if I'm still moaning about being jobless into next year hohoho! Nah, there are plenty jobs around, just got to keep plugging away. Cheer for now x</p></p>
