  3. Hi It is correct that Emirates give a 30kg allowance as standard now plus 7kg hand luggage but when daughter emigrated she rang Emirates and asked for extra allowance as only going one way and they uped their allowances to 40kg so always worth asking any airline the question  Good Luck Phoebe

  5. My apologies for the title it won't let me edit it should say Attention :err: Hi everyone To those of you who are renting their houses out here in UK while living in Oz  I've been asking around generally but getting different answers so thought I would come to the source  If you are/are not an Oz resident (but living in Oz) do you have to pay tax on the rental income on the rent you get here or in Oz  I'm sure either way you will have to pay somebody :swoon: Phoebe
  6. When my SIL sponsored us he was only on a temp visa and was fine as proved they were 'settled' Phoebe
  7. My daughtet & SIL had PR and proved they were 'settled'. My SIL acted as sponsor there was no problem although he had to have a minimum wage of around $46,000 I believe :cute: Phoebe
  8. Hi Cath Don't know where you are heading but we visited a few kit home places and found these really good to talk to and look at 2 bed ones. Last year they came in around $52,000 self build if you have the land of course  http://www.valleykithomes.com.au/ Phoebe
  9. My daughter opened a bank account in Oz and I transfer money using Forex they are very helpful and friendly  Phoebe
  10. Hi Nicola I initially wanted to apply for the 173 but hubby thought the 143 would be better. The only difference I could see was if you go for the 143 (and get it) your residency starts straight away but, you still don't get a pension for 10 years and it's means tested even if you reach pensionable age in Oz so if you got a 143 April 2012 you wouldn't be eligable for a pension until April 2022 if you are pensionable age at that time. If you go for the 173 (and got it in April 2012) and lets say you 'upgraded' to 143 in 1 year April 2013, your 10 years would not start until then and you wouldn't be eligable for pension until April 2023 if you are pensionable age at that time. The other thing of course is spreading the cost  I went with hubbys suggestion straight for the 143 but when we got our CO (last half of last year) I had to cancel the application  as we just didn't have the funds, it was a costly lesson as we lost the original application fee :swoon: so please tell your parents to look very carefully at both visas and good luck to them  Phoebe
  11. If I need a medical anytime in the future you need to tell me who your GP was. My healths been a joke for the past 11 months :swoon: Phoebe

  14. Hi It's sounds like you have lots of stuff in place. Regarding a house my daughter lives in a rental and just showed her agreements and record of regular payments. Hope this helps. Good luck. Phoebe
  15. Hi everyone Just going through some stuff in my head re the VAC :arghh: We have a little savings and a modest house to sell in the North of England (we estimate around £100,000) At least 25% of that and all our savings would have to go on the VAC :swoon: I know once my daughter got her PR she was entitled to some help from Centrelink she has 3 children my question is once you get your PR as *oldies* would we be entitled to any help if we needed it. Obviously we wouldn't be destitute when we arrived and I know we would have money (the AoS) with Centrelink but is there any other financial help. Just trying to look at all of the senarios. Any advice/experience would be greatly appreciated :notworthy: Phoebe
  16. Yes our daughter has an agent for her house and they are very good. It's just good to know I'm not just being *silly* feeling as I do. It's very early days yet gonna do the *tour* first to see how hubby feels before we make the visa decision, after all he has to be as certain as me that he wants the move. His mam is also still around (sadly mine's not) and I think this is having some influence on him even though he say's it isn't........men:cute: Phoebe
  17. Hi Val Thanks for your reply it's sound pretty much the route we would go. We've lived in our house 25 years also and like you say at the end of it it's still your house. Do you mind telling me how long did you rent out for initially and did you rent it furnished? I couldn't see the point of renting the house then paying storage for furniture. That beer sounds good Good luck with everything  Phoebe
  18. Hi All Well we've made a couple of decisions. First of all after we did the year end sums we are going to keep the business going for another 12 months and review again next year. We are also hoping to get back out to Oz maybe beginning of December (if the hospital gets it's finger out!!) for about 8 weeks (thats the maximum we can be away from the business). Our idea is to buy a small Motor Home and in between seeing our family (it's been a long time ) we are going to tour some of Queenslands East Coast, hubby still isn't convinced he want's to spend the money on CPV's  so hopefully this and I can convince him so, if any of you are in the areas we go to it would be great to have a cuppa and tell hubby how fantastic it is living there . We have also talked about CPV's and decided the best course would be the 173 apart from the financial side hubby feels it gives us a fallback if we decide not to stay and can also (hopefully) work and make some of the money back in the meantime  Hubby is running by the idea that if we do that we should rent our house out in the UK so it's making money for us but I'm not so sure, yes of course the money would be useful but I'm just a bit *ummmm* about renting our house out if we want to come back to it. Am I being stupid on this? Has anyone here done/considered that? Would appreciate any input. :notworthy: Phoebe
  19. Don't really know anything about renting/storage sorry but the general opinion on shipping your car is if you have a decent one (new/nearly new/low milage etc) or perhaps vintage then shipping can be an option as second hand car prices in Oz (Queensland at least) are crazy:swoon:. We were going to ship ours it's an 8 year old Amazon but only 40,000 on the clock and excellent condition. Our reasoning was as we bought it from new we would get hardly anything for it if we sold in the UK and wouldn't get a one anywhere as good for the money we would get (if that makes sense) I think the costings were around £7000/£7500 last year but I'm sure someone said on here you could ship it in a large container with your other stuff. Maybe someone can help you more on this. Sadly we got our CO last year and had to send him back due to our circumstances at the time  Phoebe
  20. Thanks peeps  It's still the same thing ongoing :swoon: test after test after test after test........ GP thinks he now knows what it is now (very uncommon apparantly :wideeyed:) but waiting for the final test to confirm then see if anything can be done  This time last year I was on my way to see my new grandson....he was 1 last week !!!
