  1. Hi We did it ourselves it was pretty straight forward but lots of form filling. It depends on how confidant you are I suppose. My daughter went through an agent, she said they didnt want to risk making any mistakes and that method worked for them. Why not have a look through the forms but get a couple of quotes from agents then you can decide Good Luck  Phoebe
  2. Finally my Operation scheduled for tomorrow (Friday 26th) then got a phone call today Consultant has had an accident hurt his foot so Op's been cancelled.............Wasn't looking forward to it but I have to have it done........devastated  Phoebe
  3. That's the pre Op done another step closer to the 26th July, recovery then get some long awaited flights booked  Phoebe
  4. Thanks Cath  it's been a very long road but almost at the end of it now  Phoebe
  5. Hi Everyone so much good news lately . Well my operation has been brought forward 7 months as things getting worse so that can only be good news. Got my date today 26th July pre assessment this Saturday. It's a major Op with 8-12 week recovery but in the bright side once its done I'll finally be pain free and can start eating normal food again and the long recovery gives me plenty of time to plan those flights to Oz for our recci that have been eluding us for the past 2 years. So nice to read everyone's good news Phoebe
  6. Hi eveveryone Haven't been on for a while still marking time for the Op I need which I was told would be around Ja/Feb 2014! Got a call from hospital on Thursday to ask if I would consider having it done at another hospital to bring it forward (Neuro Surgeons are thin on the ground) naturally I said yes so just waiting for appointment to meet new surgeon and hopefully get a date. :-) Im daring now to think about finally getting to Oz to see my family it's been 2 years :-( As our next trip is going to be a reccy I was just wondering. Have you or anyone you know returned back to your/their home country? I was just wondering if you/your friend has what happens to the CPV that was paid initially to Centrelink and (as I understand it) held by them for 10 years. Was it refunded to you? BTW Congratulations Summerdaisy I hope Oz is all you wanted it to be :-) Phoebe x
  7. I spoke to someone on the Gold Coast who said it had cost them around £250,000 to get their business Visa (they had bought a Cafe) I don't know what visa it was. Sorry I can't help but good luck Phoebe
  8. Thanks Vava...... Flathead I neither need nor want an apology. I made a remark based on what I feel, see and live with on a daily basis in the UK and I'm entitled to do that without someone who incidently, knows nothing about me or my position financial or otherwise commenting that I have made a 'stupid political statement' Quote "I responded initially to a stupid post about the country 'going down the pan'...." unquote It was not a 'stupid post' nor was it a 'political' one....it was a comment I made in reply to another members post. I am not 'stupid' I do not make 'stupid' remarks and I do take offence at your coment. It was very personal and totally unnessesary. I make a point of not discussing my political or religious views with anyone, as I said this is not a 'political forum' I am also terminating this conversation. You have absolutely taken it out of all proportion, made it all about you and caused bad feeling among members into the bargain. This has always been a friendly site for like minded people to help and support each other in their journeys and thankyou Stellathedog for bringing it back to where it always has and should continue to be. Phoebe
  9. Recorded by the Fortunes..there has to be a joke in there somewhere :biglaugh: Phoebe
  10. Everyone is entitled to there opinion and who is anyone to judge anyone else! My comment was meant to be taken the way it was written....light hearted. This is not a political forum. Is it have a go at Phoebe week? Please form an orderly Q!! Phoebe
  11. I don't have any experience of living in another country so I can't comment. I was simply meaning that given the response I had had following my enquiry 'the powers that be' never listen to us mere mortals. That's just my opinion of course and don't feel I should be judged on it. Phoebe
  12. And that's exactly why this country is going down the proverbial pan!!! Phoebe
  13. I wrote to my MP a while ago asking if there was any chance the 'frozen' pension would change for parents going to join their children in Oz given that the UK has a reciprical agreement and UK residents emigrating to EU Countries don't have to suffer the 'frozen pension'. She passed it onto the 'Minister for Work & Pensions' I got a reply from the House of Commons to say they had no intentions of changing the 'frozen' pension policy in the foreseeable future.......no surprise there then :swoon: Phoebe
  14. Hi Everyone Just want to ask a question to those of you who have already made the move. Other than the ongoing medical problems I'm having ATM I've also got Arthritis (had it since I was 30 years old) Do you find your health has improved either due to the warmer climate or new lifestyle? I would be interested to hear your honest views on this. Phoebe
  15. Hi As I understand it it starts from date of his PR but I'm sure someone will correct me if this isn't the case. Good luck Phoebe
  16. Hi Im sorry this is not based on real life experience as we are still in the UK considering the move to Oz. Naturally the reason we are considering it is because our daughter and now 3 grand children are out there but our decision will be based on wether we feel we can make a better life for ourselves in Oz. My daughter and I are the best of friends but we would absolutely not want to live in the same house as them. When we go over to visit we stay with them and are made very welcome by them and their friends however my daughter now has her own family which she must put first and we totally respect that. If we were to make the move it would be for us and no-one else having my daughter and grandchildren close by or within driving distance would be a big bonus but we firmly believe the decision to move to Oz at our time of life has to be based on wether we feel we could have a better lifestyle there than we have in the UK and sadly even though we have extended family and some good friends here we feel this country is going downhill fast. This is just my perspective of course and I too would be interested to hear other people's views Phoebe
  17. Hi everyone Well sadly the past 17 days have gone too quickly and my daughter & grandson are now heading back to Oz :-( The goodbyes seem to get harder. Phoebe
  18. Hi Andy Welcome to PIO . Sorry I can't help with your question but someone will come along soon who can  Congratulations on your new Grandson & Good Luck with everything Phoebe x
  19. They can 'frontload' the medicals i.e. have them done a little earlier before they are requested, but remember they only last 12 months at least this will give you an idea if medicals are going to be an issue. I believe once you are issued a CO and they have all the relevant information ie medicals police checks etc they will ask you for the VAC I believe they give you 28 days but many have had extensions because they have to sell properties etc. I'm sure there are plenty people here who can advise you better Phoebe
  20. Hi and welcome I can only tell you my daughter who has also been in Oz now for almost 6 years had a friends with high BP and one with type 1 diabetes and their MEDICALS were fine. Im sure someone here can help you with the rest. Good Luck to your parents. Phoebe
  21. Hi Andy We havnt applied for the visa yet. We did apply for the 143 couple of years ago and got a CO but circumstances changed and we had to cancel it. Hubby is just starting to come round to the idea again and hopefully at some point we will apply for the 173 initially. Regarding the health issues and medical. The swallowing problems have been put down to 'degenerative changes' and lets face it at our age it's bound to happen but I also have injuries from a bad car accident in December 2011. I think the main issue with the medical is that they 'don't want anyone who they feel will be a drain in Australia's resources' given the amount of money they are taking off us personally I think they have a nerve but if we want to go we have no choice I hope all goes well with your MRI results. I've got another one coming up. The WI have issued me with my own cup at the hospital lol. Phoebe
  22. Hi Everyone its 4.30am UK time and I'm still awake. I just had to share this with you all. Its my big 60 on 28th of this month so I went out to a club with friends tonight (Friday) as its also one of their birthdays. They sat me on a chair in the middle of the room presented me with a beautiful cake and said they had a surprise for me.....knowing my friends I'm naturally thinking uh oh.....I got a kiss on the cheek from behind me , turned around AND THERE WAS MY DAUGHTER FROM OZ.....I couldn't believe it she has come over to surprise me for my birthday. I'm still in a state of shock it was a complete surprise even hubby didn't know. Sadly she couldnt bring the 3 grand kids BUT she has brought little Harry who is now 21 months old. With all the crap I've had going on I havnt seen him since he was 10 weeks old. Grandma has him tonight but I will meet him again tomorrow (well today) and I'm soooo excited I can't sleep. Lots of hasty bedroom rearranging to do but what the h*ll. they are here until 4th February. Can't keep the smile off my face :-) Phoebe
  23. Good news and bad news from the Neurologist.....good news they have found out what is causing the swallowing problem 4 cervical Osteophytes one of which is 'beaking' causing the problem. He also found the nerve that runs down the right hand side is completely squashed all the way through....first step is a day procedure in few weeks to inject the bone and nerve in the neck to temporarily ease the neck, shoulder and arm pain then a major operation to remove the Osteophytes and repair the nerve...bad news is his waiting list is 12 months!!!! So now I have to decide if I'm going to continue putting my life on hold for another year. I havnt seen my family for 17 months now don't think I can bear waiting another year so I need to get my head around this and make some decisions. Phoebe x
  24. That's the MRI done thank the lord (hate those things:swoon:) that's all the tests done so the Jury is out back to see Neuro Surgeon on Monday for the verdict :err: Phoebe x
