  1. It might be bad form to quote your own post Les but in some cases its required :twitcy: I got a reply on another forum regarding taking a car to Oz from a lovely guy who was very helpful. He has given us lots of information to help us look into it, websites etc  From what I have learned it's very much an individual choice and, if you have a 'run of the mill' car its proberbly not worth the costs and trouble, however, if you have what is in your opinion a 'good' car then it proberbly is given the cost of even second hand cars in Oz. Just thought this might be helpful to any parents considering taking their car. If you need the info you know where to find me  Phoebe
  2. Like they say if it sounds too good to be true, then it usually is :twitcy: Thanks Les
  3. I'm sure there are a rew of us who would like to kow the answer to this  As far as I was aware, you have to 'set foot' on Australian soil to validate
  4. I posted this on another thread but I thought it might be better on here. I was wondering if any migrating parents had or are considering taking their car ti Oz.... We bought ours 6 years ago new (on finance) with the idea that, if looked after, it would last us a long time. We had no idea then that we would be considering this move!. It is a Toyota Landcrusier (4 x 4 Amazon) and would be perfect out there, we have seen lots of them on our visits. The reason we are considering it is, it cost a lot of money £46,560 and we wouldnt get anywhere near that if we sold it here, it has been well looked after serviced etc and only has 35,000 on the clock. We are not sure what is involved and naturally it would cost money to do it (like everything else) but once we have paid for the visas......we would never be able to afford to buy another car like this in Oz. As yet we dont know if it could go in a 40ft container with the things we would want to take or we would have to use a specialized shipping agent. The funny part about this is when we wanted to buy a manual for it the only place we could find one was eBay in Oz!!!!!!! I would appreciate it if anyone who has or is considering doing it had any advice. Phoebe
  5. Hi Lindsay Thankyou so much for the link. I think I am panicking too soon trying to do everything at once. :arghh: Phoebe
  6. One more question?? Does the sponsor (child) in Australia have to be a 'blood' relative to the CPV143 applicant (in UK)? Phoebe
  7. Yes it felt very awkward. I actually asked my daughter but all the same......I've never encroached on their personal lives and felt awkward but, the question had to be asked  So do you know if it would be my son in law that has to sponsor us with him being the one who can prove his income and it is over the $40,000 and can he when he is not a blood relative, or could both my daughter and son in law be sponsors  Gill I will check that out with my daughter thanks again Phoebe
  8. Hi Les Yes thats exactly what I am doing. I have looked at the forms for CPV 143 and feel I can handle the application myself, hence saving precious £££'s  but I am trying to find out as much information as possible regarding the Sponsorship and AoS so my daughter and son in law don't have to do it. They went through all of this 3 years ago for their 457 visa then again last year for their PR. :arghh: Gill, thanks to one of your earlier replies I did establish Sponsorship and AoS dont have to be from the same people but I appreciate your concern. There are other relations in Oz but we would rather not involve them if at all possible. Don't get me wrong they are lovely people but they helped my daughter and son in law so much with their sponsorship I don't think it would be fair to ask. I will look through the links you have sent thankyou for all the trouble you have taken. I did ask yesterday how much my son in law earned and it is over $40,000, my daughter on the other hand is restricted with a 6 and 3 year old so only works part time self employed and her earnings would be more difficult to prove, would this mean that my son in law would have to be the sponsor and indeed can he be with not being a 'blood' relative :wideeyed: Sorry my posts have been a bit spamodic:unsure:. What I could really do with is a 'check list' of what the Sponsors, Assurers and I have to do in order to go forward with this. As I said I have looked through the application forms (thanks to yomvard I now know which one's I need to complete ) but not too closely yet. The reason for that is, although my daughter and son in law have said they will support us 100%, I need to make sure they are absolutly clear of what is involved from their side and they tell me absolutley that they can/will sponsor us. I suppose what I am saying is I don't want to build my hopes up for them to be dashed because we find something that isn't 'do-able' :arghh: Thanks again to you both for the help so far, I'm sure I will have many more questions for you's in the coming months  Phoebe
  9. Hi Mary It certainly does help. Thankypu so much  Phoebe
  10. Hi When looking through the CPV 143 info:arghh:...........I've come across a form 40 that child/children have to complete. Is it the child sponsor in Oz that has to complete this? Would my son (who would be left in UK) also have to complete one...........:wideeyed: Thanks Phoebe
  11. Hi Caz Thanks I think I understand now, so for example if I have a £4000 credit card and I owed them £1000 at the end of the month, I would pay the credit card company say £40,000 then I can use my CC to pay the 2nd VAC :twitcy: Phoebe
  12. I'm not sure I would know how to 'pre-load' my credit card :arghh: So are you saying I can open an Oz bank account say when we go on holiday next year....so may questions sorry :wideeyed: Phoebe
  13. Hi Gill My credit card wouldnt cover the amount for the 2nd VAC, will this mean I have to open an OZ bank account which I could maybe do when I next visited or could I transfer it straight from my UK account:dull: and will my daughter and son in law have to prove their income?? Thanks Phoebe
  14. Hi Gill Once again a great source of information  One thing that does worry me is my daughter & hubby get help from Centrelink as hubby is on a low wage and they have 2 small children. Would my daughter paying the $14,000 into another bank account be taken as 'Income' for them:unsure: Also am I reading this right, do we CPV's have to pay the money for the visa to our sponsors for them to pay it to the Australian Government............and would this also intefere with their Centrelink payments........ I'm even more confused now  Phoebe
  15. Hi Once again thankyou Les. I am trying to get everything clear so I can let my daughter and son in law the ins and outs of what is involved at their end. before we start to embark on this journey I am only at the 'reading through the material' stage :arghh:. Phoebe
  16. Hi Les Thanks so much fir explaining that I'm just glad I only have to loan/give offspring the 14,000AU rather than find another hefty sum :arghh: So let me get this exactly right I 'lend' offspring said amount, plus another 150AU to open an account and the interest is paid into that account every 6 months, then if I don't pop my clogs or use the money in the next 10 years I get it back:jiggy: So does the account have to be in offsprings name? Can she not just use her AU bank account?
  17. Hi Can anyone answer a question about AoS (Assurance of Support). I know that apart from the CPV fees there is $14,000 to pay to Centrelink in case we need any financial help in the first 10 years then the balance if any is returned (I think) but does the 'Assurer' have to pay this or the 'Applicant' It will be my daughter who has PR that would be sponsoring us so and they can't afford the $14,000 soo is it a case of we have to give it to them as our Assurer's so they can pay it into Centrelink or is there another 'fee' of $14,000 I dont know about.......!!! Phoebe
  18. I'm sure there must be. We have are looking on the internet for possibilities even though we are just in the process of applying  We have started logging onto www.google.com.au and have found it much better for information in Australia than just searching google.co.uk. If you dont try you won't know :jiggy: Phoebe
  19. What about the 'well known' auction site. Find something you are good at make it, buy it, sell it  Phoebe
  20. Remember we were the post war children, no money, no shoes on our feet but WE SURVIVED ...........in the past I have typed labels on a bettered old typewriter for 1p each 1000 at a time, made hand knitted garments for a tenner a time to feed the family in bad times, delivered free newspapers, delivered yellow pages etc etc, there are always options for the people who WANT to do it.....so let that be our motto(parents on PIO) we WILL and CAN SURVIVE, ok cuddles wont feed our bodies but they will feed our hearts and souls................the rest is easy  Phoebe
  21. Hi Sandy It certainly give us all hope dosent it. When we have been on the Gold Coast we have seen a lot of 'older' people working. A lovely couple around age 70 had a little 'tinnie' rental business(small fishing boats to you and I ) might as well start learning the lingo:laugh: hubby and a couple of friends hired one $50 for 2 hours so if they enjoy it and it helps them out.........good on them I say  Lets face it if 60 is the new 40 then 70 is the new 50 right....:jiggy: Phoebe
  22. Hi Lindsay (and audiopop) Thankyou so much for clearing that up for me. Yes is was the RRV I was concerned about I had it in my head that we would need RRV (even if we were granted the 143) just to come back to see my son, obviously I see now thats not the case. This forum has been fantastic so far, my daughter recommended it very highly as she used it when they emigrated in August 2007, hence the reason I'm here now  PhoebeW
  23. Can anyne explain in laymans terms re 413... Initially we were thinking of 173 to 143 as we have a son still in UK, however after much thought we have decided to go straight for the 143 BUT.....I am now reading/hearing that once you have the 143 you need other 'attachments' to come back to the UK and now I'm SO confused. The idea was to apply for 143 and if/when granted go for a holiday to validate it come back home then prepare to return for 12 months leaving the house 'intact', get a small (cheap) rental close to the family and do a good 'rekki' of the area where we would like to settle, then come back to the UK to start wrapping things up for a permanant move. This being the case we would want to come back to the UK couple times a year to see our son. If on the other hand we (for whatever reason) we cant settle we would just come back to the UK, kiss goodbye to the money but at least say we gave it a go. Please can anyone explain the 143 to me. Sorry to be a pest but I'm very new to this Thankyou in advance Phoebe
