  1. Can't wait for the next PIO ladies picnic in the park Fran! Keep in touch and good luck with the 143 application. Give us a shout if you need anything xx
  2. Hi Fran, I just dug out the paperwork from our 173 visa and it says: "The visa provides for multiple entries to Australia and is valid for two years from the date of first entry". Hope this helps to clarify and also hope you're ok. Looking forward to seeing you again asap! Val xx
  3. Hi Norma, So sorry but I'm afraid I can't offer any quick inexpensive soloutions.........the CPV143 costs a lot of money (somewhere in the region of AU$90,000) for the 2 of you. I have no idea about visas for the over 80's, we are still in our 50's. I think I'm correct in saying though that the time you have spent waiting for your 103 will be taken into consideration when applying for the 143. This means that it will be granted almost immediately (provided that your poloce checks and medicals are in order), the current waiting time is around 18-20 months. If you are in Australia now, you could perhaps make a phone call or even try and get an appointment to see someone who could give you the correct information for your needs. Hope this helps and good luck with your visa! Regards, Val
  4. Hi there, just realised that my passport expires in a few months. Our CPV143 was granted in November 2012 and validated a few weeks later. As we are hoping our uk house will sell soon(ish) what steps do I need to take once I have the new passport? I did a bit of research and it looks like there is a form to fill in once the new passport is issued and you then send certified copies of both old and new photo pages to the visa issuing office. In my case Parent Visa Centre in Perth. Is this correct? All help gratefully received! Cheers Val
  5. When I called the tax office in Australia they wouldn't let us have a TFN even though our 143 had been granted. They said we had to be actually living there and not just giving them our daughters address. We have tax witheld on our savings but we just give our uk accountant all the bank statements and he sorts it out. Cheers, Val
  6. Hi there, We have a savings account at ANZ which we have had for a couple of years and also a current account which we opened in 2007 in Australia. We are still resident here but we do have our 143 visa. I don't remember if that was a condition attached to opening the savings account. A lovely lady at ANZ in London arranged it. We got a healthy 6.5% for the first 6 months but its now 2.5%. I would give them a ring and have a chat. There are also live chats on here regarding banking occasionally too. Hope this helps a bit. Val
  7. Hi Mike, thanks for the info. We were really only trying to save money as they're cheaper here in the uk. Ours is on its last legs so it may have to last a bit longer - we haven't sold the house yet. At least the exchange rate is better now! Kindest regards, Val
  8. Hi all, This is for those lucky ones who have already made the move; did any of you take a fridge/freezer with you and if so, were there any problems either with customs or the general working order of it once installed in its new home? I'd also be interested in any advice you can give on shipping do's and don'ts. Cheers, Val
  9. I would think that the results of your health, police checks and assurance of support would determine whether you will get your visa or not. They need this information before they ask you for the final payment. Your are correct though, the rules do seem to have changed since we applied in 2010. When a CO was allocated to us all we got was 28 days to get everything together - not easy when Centrelink seem quite slow in some cities. You will get there in the end, good luck with everything! Ps had our visa since Nov 2012 but still living in the UK.........somebody please buy my house!
  10. Fantastic news Phoebe! Hope the recovery continues and you'll soon be winging your way to Oz. Meanwhile, have a lovely Christmas and lets hope 2014 is all that you wish for! Love Val x
  11. In that case maybe think about taking out some health insurance when they arrive. Having said that, doesn't Australia and the UK have a reciprocal health care agreement? Your home policy may cover their belongings as they will be staying with you so might not need a huge policy anyway. I thought they were only visiting this trip not making the final journey. Lucky them, our house still not sold so we have to come back to the uk in January.....boo! X
  12. We usually have a year long policy but there are still length of stay restrictions with them. Our last one had a 60 day limit. Also their household insurance will also have to be changed if there is nobody living in their uk home for more than a certain number of days. Ask them to check, its not worth ignoring it for the sake of a few quid, especially in winter. Have a lovely time with them xx
  13. This news arrived too late for us. We switched to using Etihad as they already give 30kgs. Singapore don't acknowledge customer loyalty, they make it nigh on impossible to use accrued airmiles and their website is unclear on how to spend miles too. Currently packing lots of chocs and gift in readiness for our trip. Will post on Etihad experience when we arrive in Brissie! Merry Christmas everyone!
  14. Phoebe, so glad the op has finally been done. Take good care of yourself and make a speedy recovery. Love Val x
  15. Hi Yes we did BUT she was very ill around the time we expected our CO and we couldn't contact her for months which was very worrying. If you are choosing an agent then try to find a firm with a few agents not a "one man band". If your circumstances are not complicated then its really only form filling and there is always lots of help and advice on here. Good luck, Val
  16. Hi all, we are currently still waiting for our uk house to sell before we can head to Brisbane.....does anyone already there know if cpv143 visa holders are entitled to buy a business or become self employed more or less on arrival? :err:cheers, Val x
  17. Hi Phoebe, hope the op is rescheduled soon. We'll be thinking of you....♥♥
  18. Hi, I would stick with the 173. You can upgrade it to the 143 as soon as you like once you have the 173 and that one can be done onshore and its usually quick too. You might have to start all over again if you switch. Hope this helps, Val
  19. Eveyone is entitled to an opinion - I too think this country is going down the pan. Are you going to say I'm stupid too? I think you owe Phoebe an apology. Most of us parents are embarking on this journey to be closer to our children and grandchildren - if they weren't there, we wouldn't be going. We all know we have to put up with the rules but we don't have to like them.
  20. Hi Sara, My daughter came over to the UK for a visit last year with her Stokke. She already packed it in the Stokke travel bag and just handed it in at check-in both at Brisbane and also at Manchester when she went home. She had loads of spare space in the travel bag and it wasn't weighed (she filled most of the space up with toys and soft stuff etc). The airline (Emirates) put on lots of "HANDLE WITH CARE" and "FRAGILE" labels. Might be worth you investing in a travel bag so you can take it with you on the plane but make sure your insurance covers you for a new one if the airline damages it. You'll struggle at a UK airport for the loan of a buggy while in the airport but they have them in Dubai airport and also Singapore for you to use whilst in transit. Hope this helps, Val
  21. Hi Tab, Well in our case we got our meds done October 2011, police checks same. Grant letter for 173 is dated November 2011. We validated December 2011 and applied for the 143 upgrade in May 2012. I was aware that we had 2 years in which to do it but as the money was there already and given that DIAC put the prices up every July 1st we just went ahead and did it. As DIAC were already in possession of current meds and police checks we weren't asked to do them again but I'm not sure if you leave it the full 2 years whether it would make a difference or not. Its all a matter of personal circumstances I guess. It probably tells you in the booklet 3 but finding it is another thing lol. Good luck! Val x
  22. Hi , yes you do need a medical. If you apply for your 143 early though you wont need to do another, well we didnt. Hope this has helped, Val
  23. Hi Fran, glad its all coming together and you are starting to feel settled. Hoping it wont be too long before we can book that one way ticket. Cheers, Val x
  24. Hi Daniela, I think to clarify all your queries, the only way you will get a final definate answer would be to ask a migration agent. There are some who will give you a short free consultation. I very much doubt that there is a quick cheap way of obtaining a CPV 143 though. If there was, someone on here would have shouted it from the rooftops. Not sure about applying on your own when you are still married to your spouse - it never cropped when we applied as we always intended to do it together. There is a migration agent from Go Matilda called Alan Collett who posts on here sometimes, perhaps you could ask him what he might charge for some advice to put your mind at rest on all your queries. Good luck, Val
