  1. Thanks for the update Les! Wish I hadnt read it though - I got 1.555 last week for £50,000.......................where`s that crystal ball when you need it?? Cheers Val:arghh:
  2. Hi Steve, We havent yet got a CO (and the longer it takes, the better as far as we are concerned just now). I think that because I dispensed with the services of our migration agent and sent in a new form, my file has probably gone to the bottom of the pile - or something like that. Our acknowledgement date is 26th July 2010 so please dont remove us from the tracker. Your hard work is very much appreciated! Regards, Val
  3. Don't strike us off yet. We're still waiting for something/anything from DIAC. OMG - The Waiting Ditto the above for us too please...................BUT not in nearly as much of a rush as we were when we first applied. Been just over a year now since lodging our application for a 173 Cheers Val
  4. Hi Les, I think it might have something to do with me dispensing with the services of our migration agent and subsquently reporting her to the MARA. I then had to send in another form saying I was taking over from her so perhaps they took our file out and it now been shoved in a drawer! Not too bothered really as we cant afford to up sticks and move just yet although we have got our visa money put aside. We are visiting for Christmas so if they get in touch with a CO in time, it could be our validation trip. If not, we might just have got ourselves another years grace! I`ll leave it for a bit and see what happens. Cheers, Val
  5. Hi all, Its exactly a year since we lodged our 173 application and as yet, no case officer. Ive been expecting one since around May time but not heard anything. Should I be getting anxious or is this normal? Also, how do they make contact? Email, telephone or post? Val x
  6. We had a refuelling stop at Munich that nobody had told us about. Hi Cakey, You`ll be there by the time you read this and I`m really glad everything is now all in place for your new life. Singapore Airlines have been stopping at Munich en route from Manchester for ages now - its to pick up more passengers because Singapore and Lufthansa are codeshare partners. Slap on the wrist for your travel agent for not pointing this out to you. To avoid Munich last time we went, we thought we would give Heathrow and the new A380 a try but that airport is the PITS as far as I`m concerned and will avoid it now at all costs. At least you wont have all the worry of all that flying again. I`m sure your new adventure will be wonderful for all of you. Enjoy! Val x
  7. Ooops! Sorry................should read things more thoroughly before replying. Having trouble concentrating as our little Aussie granddaughter (and daughter) have just told me they are coming for a visit in a month and its sent me into a flap! Cheers! Val
  8. Well done for getting this far Cakey and good luck with the trip too. Our £50,000 visa money has been in a (supposedly) high interest bond for a year now and has only made £82! If you can get 6% in Oz I would go for it. I dont think UK interest rates will be going up anytime soon. My bank charge £25 whether you send £100 or £100,000 so I think I will be sending mine over there asap! Give my love to the Goldy when you get there! Cheers, Val
  9. Hi again Mike, We dont own any property in Oz - our daughter and her husband do. She`s a bit cheeky and would certainly suggest "looking after" it for us in her offset mortgage account if she had the chance but that wont earn ME any interest would it!! Kids eh!! We`ll be there again for Christmas so can do the personal appearance at the bank then. We are also hoping that this will be our validation trip if DIAC would only get their fingers out!! Regards, Val
  10. Thanks for that Mike. We already have a current account with ANZ but dont get any interest. Its only for when we go for holidays. I will look into the other banks you suggested. Maybe my daughter can do the ground work for me (although she would probably want the funds in her offset mortgage account!). Seems the case officers are on a go slow again - its been a year for us already! Regards, Val
  11. What's more, they still haven't yet bought in Sydney, so that pot is earning just over 6%! Hi MikenSue, Just had a thought about interest rates in Oz rather than the UK after reading your post. Do you happen to know what kind of account earns 6% and would we be better off putting our VAC funds in an account there? After all, thats where its ultimately bound for anyway. My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw 6%. Our pot for the visa has only earned £82 in a year! Hope you can help! Cheers, Val
  12. Hi, We struggled with this dilemma too. We have decided to continue with the original application now we know that we dont have to actually live in Australia right away. We have been advised to validate the 173 when we get it (or during the life of the police/meds) then, when the temp 173 two years is nearly up, apply for the permanent 143. We will still have quite a while before we have to be living in Oz. If we had withdrawn and then waited until we are ready to sell up and go the CPV prices will have increased quite a bit by the time we re-applied. But to answer your question, no you wont have burned your bridges (well not according to our migration agent) Hope that has helped...............Val
  13. Hi Angie, In order for somebody in Australia to certify your documents, you would have to send the originals to your daughter in the post. That is what they will be certifying - that the document is a true copy of an original and whoever signs must have seen the original. I would have them done here (our migration agent did ours) a local solicitor would charge a small fee but as long as they stamp the document with their company stamp too, I cant see a problem. Hope this helps! Val
  14. Hi all, Just had a thought and wanted some input. Do life policies have to be cancelled in the uk before migration to Oz or would they still be valid over there? Has anyone got any advice or "do`s & don`ts" with regard to insurance/assurance policies. Regards, Val
  15. Hi, Its www.gainwave.co.uk The site is run by one of our fellow PIO parent visa holders. His name is Steve and he is very knowlegeable about all things to do with CPV`s. He posts on here as Sandch. Hope this helps! Val
  16. How wonderful Phoebe! Congratulations to you and all the family. The next two weeks will fly by and then you`ll be there - holding him in your arms. Enjoy every second..............Val x
  17. Hi Phoebe, I just usually go on the www.immi.gov.au site and search for "parent visa centre" then click on "how to contact"(I think thats what it says) and scroll down till you get to the email section and just fill out the form and send. They usually get back to you in a day or so. Hope this helps.................Val
  18. Hi Phoebe, Yes, I would think that your best bet would be to email the Parent Visa Centre in Perth although I doubt you would lose your place. To be safe, if you are going to do it, then do it before they hike the prices up again on July 1st. Hope they give you some good news instead of blah blah jargon like they usually do! Val:arghh:
  19. Hi Phoebe, Would it be possible to ask your daughter to telephone DIAC as its only a general question and wouldnt involve actually naming you. Please dont wait until you get a CO as it will be too late by then. I`m still waiting for the migration agents register people in Australia to do their investigations on my migration agent before we make our next move on whether or not to switch from 173 to 143. We believe, amongst other things, that she gave us wrong information. Oh, its all good fun (not!) Cheers, Val:biglaugh:
  20. There are a few criteria you have to fulfil for the CPV, firstly you have to pass the balance of family test. This means that at least 50 per cent of your parents children must have had permanent residency for at least two years. Secondly, I am not sure how the "No Further Stay" will affect a future application but I am guessing that they will not be eligible to apply whilst onshore. I hope someone will be able to give you more help later. Val
  21. I read your post to Phoebe with much interest! I had a look on the website and found the link (company is called Wide Span Sheds) the kit homes look fantastic. Will have to get the daughter and son in law on the lookout for land. All the sites I found didnt really say how much the asking price is but I`m sure it all a possibility. Thanks so much for the info! Regards, Val
  22. Hi Phoebe, No, we just showed our passports and they let us straight through! I even had loads of sweets and snacks and chocolates in my case and I typed everything on a list and handed to the guy and he waved us right out the door! I bet we were no longer than ten minutes from getting to the carousel to the exit doors. Might you have any room in your luggage for me? I am missing my grandaughter so much it hurts! Skype is ok but you cant squeeze them, can you! Have a fab trip and do some serious fact finding for all us parents in waiting please! All the best, Val x
  23. Your granddaughter Scarlett is gorgeous and I am so pleased she is doing well. I have just read your link. What a brave girl! Good luck with everything! Val
  24. We just did what our agent told us to do. She said it would save time later and to be honest, I am such a hoarder, I still had all our old passports and old photos helped us work out the countries we have visited so it wasnt too difficult. The hard part for me now is going through all that old stuff and deciding what to keep and what to chuck before we move! Val
